Starting my 2026 journal - here’s 2024 and 2025(too lazy to start a new report last year) https://twoplustwo.com/Las-Vegas-Lifesty... (https://twoplustwo.com/Las-Vegas-Lifestyle/13f01/WSOP-2024-619---622-trip-summary--Does-VegasWSOP-still-offer-good-value?page=1) Flying out tonight (arrive 10PM Vegas time), sleep has been affected by all the excitement from reading all these TRs the past couple weeks. Here’s to hoping sleep happens better than last year in Vegas. Staying at Paris so think slight upgrade in room over Harrahs will help. I don’t need much - quiet, clean and stay cool. Last year AC was fighting to keep it cool, charging outlets didn’t work in room and room a little worn/tired (my first time at harrahs). Can’t beat location of Paris. Plan: 6/15 WSOP Seniors 1A 6/16-6/20 WSOP Seniors continued (will only be 1 bullet) - in reality prepared for some rest when inevitable bust happens. Plus a couple good meals, little pool time, massage or two and plenty of cash games. Will be happy to meetup with some other LVLs if schedules allow. At a USA#n I’d get a kick out of watching a World Cup match with folks from other countries (England Wednesday? My father in law born in London during WW2 and wife lived in England for a year). I’m a big sports fan and these days I’m all about new experiences and viewings….love events and things I haven’t always been or followed. Seeing new stadiums and sports (ie, attended a Japanese League baseball game and loved the experience). I’ve only played 1 tourney in past year (local MSPT Senior) with fairly early bust (was ahead). Not much study either. Still play cash, 1/3 or 2/5 mostly so not super rusty in that (2times/month average). I know some reasons, but as a rec I don’t understand why:

  1. Firing multiple bullets in a tourney, requiring a deeper run just to profit. Is it pure ROI from each bullet that some feel they have?
  2. Late reg, often leading to push or fold very soon. Why would I not spend the time being able to play when I’d have 100BB? Closer to cash style for a few levels. I know I can’t win it in first few hours but maybe I’ll build a stack before needing to shove? I’m paying for those levels a max late reg would miss. Not sure how many updates or if live I’ll provide but will make the effort. Inserting pics will hopefully help if lack of word volume. Speaking of…

Best of luck! I admit that I wasn't excited for this World Cup at all, but now that I'm out here among all the fans, I'm getting swept up into the fever a little bit. I've seen a lot of kits around the city these last few days. Not generally a late reg proponent, but I think the idea is that it maximizes your hourly rate and gives you a decent chance to cash if you can win a couple all-ins quickly. Like you, I skew more towards, "In my seat for level 1." I want to maximize the amount of time I get to play deep stacked with the worst players in the field, and that means playing from the start whenever possible. I don't know if I've ever fired more than two bullets on the same day in the same tournament, but I suppose the logic is that each bullet is a separate proposition that we should view as being detached from all the other bullets. In other words, if you've bricked 5 bullets into a MTT, but you think the event is long-term +EV for you then you are making money every time you register.

Thanks Dog, logic makes sense and certainly a case where YMMV. Arrived about hour late and despite being up for long time (also did a trail run in AM where I sweated out 4 pounds) had to taste 2-5NL at WSOP. +172. Now planning on Day 1A with card in air in 8 hours.

Well, good news is I have some time to relax, workout, massage, meet folks, etc. that’s also the bad news - out of event 46. Don’t think I dragged a pot last 3 levels after reaching a peak of 26K off 20K starting. A couple times I had something, others better. My opens or flop continuations were 3 and 4 bet. While I understand how tournaments can go and realize last year was a great run…still feel the sting of a whiff. That’s the cash mindset where you expect to win majority of sessions, even if they’re small wins. Tournaments don’t work that way. Settled into the room - badly need some rest. Plan was always the fire and day 1A today but after waking up with maybe three hours of sleep in a long day yesterday, I seriously considered punting today and going tomorrow. While I realize I can fire it up on day 1 B not sure that’s what I wanna do. I’m going to view the list of tournaments the rest of the week and see if I wanna try another. Or maybe cash game Bonanza Some solid players for sure - a couple guys with $500, 000 plus earnings

JJ was only big pair in 5 hours. Next biggest pair was 55. Had AK and AQ a handful of times in spots to 3bet. Best pot won was AK. Looking at tourney list for next few days to see if I want to fire one

Managed a solid night sleep of 7-8 hours. Badly needed. Allowed myself to get up and head to gym for a 30 minute bike zone 2 sweat session. Wanted to hit pool for 30 minutes and some vitamin D but doesn’t open until 9AM (insert oldmanyellsatclouds.jpg). Opted to stand on Vegas BLvd for a good 15 minutes for some sun. CVS for some healthy food options. Registered for 1B and they sent me to horseshoe blue. Feeling better today - GL to the others in same tourney and maybe we can connect during a break.

1st break coming back to 31K from 20K start. Made a couple nice hands and got paid. Quality of play seems much stronger at my tables than last year. Probably part of the variance that is tourney poker.

Still hanging around, mostly competent players at my table. 45K entering level 7 with 400-800/800 blinds and antes.

I’d take that final table matchup in a snap. We bagged at 79K (average 87k) and coming back to 1/2/2 blinds, so some wiggle room but not a ton. Just over 900 left and 600 paid. I’m kinda glad my table is changing, a handful of solid (better than me) tourney players. General observations and notes: I miss clicked on bet sizing once or twice pre-flop or on the flop Big double with 30 minutes left - 3bet AA on button UTG+2 open to 9k after he opened to 3500 with 1/1.5/1.5 and he ripped with 10-10. Tourneys are more fun when you make a couple hands. Very flat payout until you get below 200 total of the 7000+ 2 day 1s. Day 1A down to 113 and still about$3K. So while cashing is achievement I can’t sit and blind down just hoping for that.

Just had a roller coaster. A3 spades on A48 2 spade flop. Guy called 5 turn and I checked back 7 river. He had 10-6 spades. Ugh for half stack. Next hand I ripped QJ spades on 9-10-2 with 2 clubs. Guy tank called AJ and miracle 8 river. With 50 before the $$. Need a cigarette and I don’t smoke

We still here, mincash locked up. Below average with 130k but enough to find a spot and get in the chips to build a stack. Shoved a couple open ended straight draws, first one got called light with his high, which was the correct call and got there on the river. Second one a different guy gave me respect and folded. Said he thought I had two pair when he had overpair.

droopy0021Regular35 posts

Still in the fold - coming from dinner to 4/8/8 with about 120k. Moved tables a couple times and just moved to this one. Will look for a double up opportunity to shove when I still have enough chips to get some respect and get a stack if they call.

Still in during break after Level 18. Getting short, peaked at 260k and now 143k coming back to 6/12/12. Time to find a spot. Have had very few solid hands. Bluffed missed straight draw on river that I didn’t need which would’ve saved 30k. There’s a couple 300-400 pay jumps it those are nothing compared to value of more chippies and a bag for tomorrow.

Early position jams, folds to me on button with 10-10 and 173k blinds 6/12/12. I think for a moment and put it in ( he covers). Flop 4-6-8. Turn 7. River…..K. Would’ve had 380 and in a good spot. Gotta win your flips/ all ins. I did 3 times earlier so maybe was due. Did ladder up a spot (which didn’t really play into decision at all - I knew I needed a spot and there it was). 3, 160 payout. No regrets (of course some botched hands). This tourney was a lot of fun again. Even though I wasn’t super close to any big $$ winning that pot would’ve had me in the game. Always stinks to bust even if I ran well and cashed. No poker tonight for sure - looking forward to a shower (Silver section hotter than balls all day) and some needed sleep. I really do enjoy the nuances of tournament poker. I need to get better at the technical aspects and GTO. problem - don’t play online and while local tourneys like WSOP circuit and MSPT are around I just don’t have/make time. My sessions are cash on eeekend nights. Maybe in future I’ll have more free time (done with job) but until then, maybe some study and WSOP it is. I don’t fly out for 3 days. Massage tomorrow after a workout and likely cash games. May shift to fly home Friday if possible. Or not 😀

Nice to meet you mate and congrats on the cash. Such a weird ladder structure for this one. So much work to do after the bubble. Not sure I like it tbh. There’s a Wynn Seniors tomorrow. I reckon you dive into that - I would be if I was around If you don’t do that and are around. I’ll be playing some poker in the Horseshoe poker room from 12-4 ish if you fancy throwing some chips around? Good luck. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

droopy0021Regular35 posts

That structure is odd for sure - gotta last until the very end to really get the $. A fix would be to only pay 10-12% instead of the 15% but don’t see that happening. I’m sure the higher percentage of field then is really attractive to a number of the players. Guy next to me from South Dakota was talking about how his dad buys him in to these tournaments. He was happy to min cash as he said he was 0 for four going into this so his dad can see some return and continue to buy him in. I would hope that’s not the typical of most senior players needing a stake. I actually did go back to the room to wind down (a heated up cinnamon roll from the café downstairs was my choice) and looked at the list of tournaments the next couple days just to see. I saw the Wynn 1100 and gave it a little thought, but I was a little spoiled by the early structure at the WSOP seniors and didn’t think I wanted to commit to jumping an tournament right away not knowing if I would get some decent rest. I went ahead and booked a massage here this morning at 9 AM. I think I’m going to keep it. I’m ready to wander to some other properties next couple days - Bellagio with the new cash buy ins at 1-3 and 2-5, Venetian and Wynn. Wynn brunch buffet has been a past go to for me, on my list for tomorrow. I may swing by the Shoe today and say hi

droopy0021Regular35 posts
Posted Jun 19, 2026, 4:01 PM#38

Spent yesterday with a chill morning - slept a bit better and quick workout and massage. Wandered to Bellagio to check out cash 1-3 or 2-5. The list were long and I forgot when you look at bravo Bellagio only shows the people checked in and not the call ins. I did actually try to call the number a couple times, but it rang and rang and rang. I did get called fairly quickly for 13 and said I wanna stay on the 25 list but got put out in sports book seating. I asked the brush out there if I would get notified if my 25 seat available and he said you’re supposed to, but didn’t give a lot of confidence. I just had the feeling that I would’ve needed to grease either him or someone upfront to keep an eye on that. And while I understand tipping culture and don’t have a problem doing it when appropriate something about the way Bellagio carries themselves in regard to that turns me off of a bit. The game was only so so and I played probably a C minus to D plus game. Well, I normally pay cash. My mindset was almost 2 free with starting hand selection and even stakes after playing and some high-level spots in a big tournament. It took me five hours to realize I needed to step away from that game and grab something to eat. I’ve heard good things about a couple of the restaurants outside horseshoe in the food court. The Taco Pl., Mediterranean place came recommended and as I wandered through I noticed there’s also an Asian place right next-door to the Mediterranean place which had a long line. I went into the Asian place and was seated right away and ordered a rice bowl with chicken and some vegetables which was something I was thinking would be good. I thought it was very good and for the $20 price tag given the strip in the area we were I thought was pretty good value. You can also order carryout and Service was quick despite them being pretty full. It was only about 10 o’clock and I went and jumped in a 13 game at the WSOP, which was another error and judgment as my play didn’t improve and I was really tired. Cut that off after an hour or so and headed up to sleep. I have also found a sore throat and maybe developing what I call the Vegas ick. My sleep felt pretty solid and approached eight hours. My Garmin also says my body score is 98. I used to get sinus infections pretty easily and would get especially irritated by the dry air in the desert and the lack of sleep. A couple years ago I had balloon rhinoplasty done, and that helped open up my sinuses, plus I bring my humidifier for the room and try to manage sinus irritation as best I can out here so even if there is something developing, I’ll just make sure to get enough rest and stay hydrated and I should be fine. Not going to work out this morning, but will walk to the wind where I pre-booked 1130 seating for the buffet. Plan will be to play poker likely after that either at the win or the Venetian depending on seating. I was looking at the win list yesterday on PokerAtlas and it seemed like very a few tables were open and huge list. I’m guessing that depends on what tournaments they are running as well for dealer availability. Or that’s just how it is and maybe I won’t be playing at the Wynn.

droopy0021Regular35 posts
Posted Jun 20, 2026, 7:48 PM#39

Departure day - slept in to after 8:30 so about 8 1/2 hours. Definitely battling sinus infection start but sleep and hydrate should stave it off. Played 1-3 at Wynn for over 9 hours. Lost a big pot early on in 3 way all in with QQ. Flopped set but AK turned gutter ball. Battled back but booked $400 loss. Game was pretty dusty for most of the day. I’ll recap my thoughts on Vegas cash games post trip. Playing 2-5 back at bellagio - seats open, close to Paris. So far game seems OK.

Need to bring this to a close (> a month later....). Did OK my last couple poker sessions - Bellagio 2-5 was actually OK. A couple grinders for sure but more than share of recs like me. Netted out a +$500 poker trip (including 2 bullets in WSOP Seniors - tourney +$1160 and cash -$660). Won't argue too hard at that. WSOP chip stack just before peak

( to take pic of strip while flight landing (fail)

( bowl from Asian place in the strip in front of Horseshoe - pretty good IMO and < $20, so decent deal by Vegas standards. I could live off Japanese food like this (and likely be 5-10 pounds lighter).

( now I've been to local casino cash 2 times since being home, both positive results. I do want to work on tourney game prior to WSOP 2027, I've seen a couple of you with good things about Jaka. I've looked at Jonathan Little's site as well. I don't play online (no legal access in my state, plus I never really had interest) so will be limited tourney opportunities. WSOP and MSPT do come to within 2 hours of my home numerous times (Chicagoland-ish) but life and other things ususally keep me. I did book a room for 2027 already (sat thru Friday mid-June). Wish list of WSOP Seniors and 1-2 other senior events (golden nugget, venetian, Wynn). 2028 will have some more free time and may try 2 weeks during WSOP. Wife asked if I was going to Vegas this fall (have in prior years with friends), said no. She said she'd go if I was...snap called and within 2 hours booked Absinth, O, dinner at Prime and Vegas Golden Knights preseason hockey last weekend September.

Currently on last day of 3 day weekend. Quick snippets so far: -staying at palazzo, pretty solid room and property. Room quality I’d probably only put it slightly behind Wynn -O at Bellagio very good show. The storyline lost us a bit (didn’t research ahead of time and our artsy parts of brains likely small). Have done some bodyweight low level exercises as adults and of course, we were blown away by the things these performers can do. From strength, extreme flexibility on top of the ability to dive and swim is crazy. -prime steakhouse at Bellagio was alright. Wife is a fairly plain eater and didn’t love the sauce on her Sea bass and my fillet was all right. We liked it better 4 years ago- decent but not worth the $290 cost (no alcohol).

  • ran both mornings - 2 and 4 miles. Getting competent at running a goal currently
  • Vegas golden Knights preseason game on Thursday is pretty cool. I haven’t attended an NHL game in over a couple decades, just after the Chicago Blackhawks moved from the Old stadium to the United Center. The Old stadium for Blackhawks game was certainly a vibe. I was at the game 4 the Blackhawks lost to the Penguins to get swept and saw the cupbaxk in the Mario lemieux and jaromir Jagr days -Wynn buffet and circa downtown to see the college football scene later today -absinthe tonight 2 sessions of 3-4 hours each at Venetian room is all I’ve had time for, down about $100 overall. After full days my body battery can only last from 9 PM until 12 or 1 AM playing poker. I’m typically not a super long session person anyway, but especially when I’m only getting 5 to 6 hours of sleep. Zoox driverless car

( kid in Bellagio atrium floral display

( center ice

( dog letting us know a small possum is entering our premises. 112 pounds of braveness 😏

() ( the Quik trip that’s very different for my typical Poker trips. The wife is also enjoying it which made both well for some future trips. I think we’d really enjoy it if we could find some friends and other couples to head out here.

Absinthe was really good, acrobats plus politically incorrect humor made it a blast. Recommend for sure. Played 3 shorter sessions, all at Venetian 2-3 NL. The room is literally right down the elevator from our hotel, which made it super convenient in the tight windows that I had. I am also a fan of the PLO double board bomb pots that they offer on each dealer change. Well I enjoy the action and a little bit of variety. I do understand they are probably not good for the Poker ecosystem at the low stakes. Well, I'm no PLO expert. I did get some reps in of double board bomb pot over the years at a home game. I used to go to Carolina Panthers for a late win many players at the 13 or 23 streets have no experience with PLO let alone double board bomb pots. After just about 10 hours of play over the three days I saw no less than three players that clearly were new to the bomb pot bust their entire stack after nursing it playing no limit. It also remains clear that the quality of games in Vegas is definitely tougher than just a few years ago. The player pool at the 23 Venetian game (200-600 buy in) reminds me of 2-5/3-5 games with 1000-1200 buy in a handful of years ago. I noticed a handful of competent locals as well as a few grinder types, which mostly filled up the games on my Thursday and Friday sessions. Saturday was a bit better with more recs. I guess the moral for me should be is Allan be willing to change tables and our locations maybe a little more freely if I'm out on a Poker trip and also get most of my Vegas Poker playing in during the WSOP in June.. not that those games are always great, but they're certainly is a wider range of tables and options during that time of year. Headed to Circa downtown on Saturday to see that sports book. Touchdown New York looks like a neat place to watch some games. Tried taking a look at stadium swim but the wife and I didn't want to pay $50 each to hang out for 20 minutes or so.

The thing about bomb pots is, I’m not always sure I’m making the correct play, But I’m CERTAIN other people are making HUGE mistakes, usually for their stacks.

Boy I really need to proof my talk to text dictation - I'll blame it on fatigue (still tired). TJ, common mistakes in the bomb pots I've seen are overplay hands that are likely good in hold em but not so much at 4 card (naked trips, under fulls, straights) and most importantly having decent hand on one board (but not the nuts) and jack squat on 2nd board, setting up possibility of getting scooped
