Tried the Enchiladas Poblanas at Javier’s last night and they were incredibly good. Fantastic mole sauce that had some nice spice to it, never had a spicy version before. saw in a yelp review that it can be made extra spicy too, will try that next time. 9.5/10 enchiladas. Easily worth the $34. [

Carne asada tacos at Toca Madera were incredible. Think they’re only like $18 for 2, well worth it. Great steak and the slaw went with it really well. Need to get these again. Short rib enchiladas also really good, preferred the green sauce over the red but can’t go wrong. I’d give a slight edge to the ones at Javier’s.

Usual order to split between two people: Caesar salad (best ever). - $20 NY strip 16oz - $72 Ceviche - $26 I think Agua Fresca cocktail or watermelon margarita - $20ish each The steak tacos were around $16-20 forgot to look at the bill and it doesn’t show the price online. Enchiladas were $38 I think. You could easily go there and get an order of tacos and a salad and be stuffed for like $35-40 but the steaks are so damn good. The street corn is also incredible and costs around $14 or so If you download the InKind app you can get $50 off a $150 bill too on your first dinner, and you can buy credits that have additional discounts like paying $500 for $700 worth of food. If you’re on their texting list they’ll send you the enhanced offers with bigger discounts once in a while. They also have a $10/month subscription plan which gets you 20% credit back on every meal and a $50 off $150 coupon to use every month. Solid deal IMO. We go there all the time so it’s the gift that keeps on giving. Takes 30-50% off our actual total cost.

Mount Everest remains in the elite tier of Indian food. Chicken tikka masala, chicken korma, Jeera Aloo, all ordered “spicy” through Postmates which I think is their 7/10. Perfect level of spicy and this was my first time having Jeera Aloo and that **** was delicious. Also got the obligatory garlic naan.

Good to know thx, I work very close to there so will give it a shot. The kebab place there does a passable kebab and rice plate too, and obviously tacos el gordo is the nuts. And god dammit I’ll even go get eggs and pancakes at dennys sometimes when I don’t want to pay $30 to go to bagelmania

Good eye that is correct (and makes more sense given time and place, Dec 2022 NYC - was there for working sessions not for mtgs/conference). i owe the thread a review of Lamaii, from my one and only time going went to Chada once before where i met Gobbo in person different story group of 7, reserved ahead. 9:30 on a saturday night they initially sat us in a booth with a chair at the end, but quickly found room at a long table in the middle without asking if i remember right we started with three oysters each plus three orders of pork jowl the mains some combination of crispy duck remains in panang curry, chicken pad thai, crab curry over noodle, larb, and crab fat fried rice with drinks and tip under 88 bucks each felt i ate like a local not a yokel on the strip delicious

Carolina’s Mexican Kitchen off Craig and Tenaya was incredible, 10/10 food and the owners are super nice. The soup was 12/10, must get. We had: Birria Egg Rolls Shrimp a la Diabla Carne en su jugo (the soup) Banana pudding Horchata latte Chips/salsa Everything tastes homemade (because it is). They also said they only use prime meat, no choice. Considering how tender the beef in the soup was I believe it. Might go back for lunch tomorrow.

It’s very good, also overrated. People make it seem like destination dining which it’s not.

Did anyone say that? It’s a very nice mid tier place that does fun stuff. Anyone that’s in town for more than a few days and like’s this type of food should go.

I would love to get a list going. I assume these are among the top contenders? Esthers La Strega Anima by Edo Noras North Italia Piero's Ferraro's Mastrioni's Italian American Club (I dont think I've been) Al Solito Posto (Capo's doesn't make my list) Pieros and Ferraro's are expensive. To me it's Esthers, La Strega, and Anima. And I like the spicy rigatoni from t-bones 😃

I would never recommend the food there when there are so many great options, but the atmosphere and the people made it a memorable night. Like I said both Ferraros and maybe especially IAC are a step down from anything else on the list, but my dad still talks about it so for that old vegas atmosphere I found it worth mentioning. Also Pieros is so bad without the charm and capos just the pictures make me a little ill that IAC felt worth mentioning

The burger and fries and Peter Lugers remains the best in Vegas. It might not look the best but the simplest burger with the best beef can’t be topped. Pj Clarkes, Bradley Ogden and bbds at palace station were my all time best burgers in Vegas, Peter Luger is now in that conversation and only one still in business.

You don’t go to a place like the IAC for the food, you go for the whole experience. The food looks bad. The kind of food only old guys from Jersey that are a quarter Italian would like.

Great little date spot in Summerlin. Small quiet bar, like a 4-seater. The food is very good. It’s not a red sauce Italian joint. A little pricy but good spot. We tried to go safe with red sauce type things the first time and were a little underwhelmed at the price point but having tried the rest of the menu it’s now in our regular rotation. Helps that we can walk there, though.

I wouldn’t bother with MoneyLine pizza. Really forgettable. Secret Pizza is a lot better, albeit I’ve never eaten there before 2am But imo if you’re in Aria, Posh Burger should be your casual dining destination. The burgers are vvg Earl of Sandwich is fine but it shouldn’t be any kind of destination. Ramsey Burger is decent but quite pricey. There’s a Mexican place on the gaming floor of PH which I’ve never been blown away by but also never disappointed by. But then I’m Australian and we don’t have much Mexican here so I’m always happy to eat it there

There’s a pretty good Italian place out the door of the food court of the Horseshoe and across the street. It’s called Batista’s Hole in the Wall. Family owned since the 70’s. When I’m on dinner break at the WSOP, I see lines out the door for their terrible, overpriced food court options. It has probably been at least 20 years since I was there, so this info is just a wee bit dated. When I went the food was ok but not outstanding, and IIRC included all the cheap Chianti you could drink. There was a strolling musician (accordionist?) who hustled every table by walking up and asking where you were from and then playing a location appropriate song. The guy was probably 85+ y/o then, so he may or may not still be strolling along. The true beauty of the place was that it was pure 1950s Las Vegas. Tons of B&W pictures on the walls of vintage celebs and non-celebs. It is definitely worth at least one trip, but unless things have changed markedly, temper your expectations of the food.

The Office Bar which I’ve never been to is basically part of Naked City pizza. Don’t they refer to this area as the fruit loop district. An interesting way to refer to the gay bar district. The owner is a pretty interesting character as well and also owns Frank’s Tiki Bar and a bar at the new punk rock museum. https://www.reviewjournal.com/entertainm... Wj94, I’ve seen you post that you might be overly nice to restaurants because you worked as a server, I have to call you out for your mother wolf review. I can’t find one person besides you that would ever go back including myself. You get far better food at north Italia which is a small chain of simple American Italian food imo. Focaccia was really good though.

Disagree 100%, thought it was amazing and one of the best dinners I’ve had in recent memory. Going back tomorrow to try more stuff. It also has 4.5 stars on Yelp so it seems I’m not the only one who thinks so. Way better than north Italia, and I like north Italia.

I did take an edible before dinner but the focaccia, Cacio e Pepe, and pistachio gelato were all absurdly good. Everything was but those stood out. Orgasms may have been had. I also thought that for the price it felt like very good value despite being “expensive” everything was well worth the money. It was also free thanks to the tier matching comp but that doesn’t influence my opinion of the food.

Sea bass and carne asada tacos from Toca, think they were something like $16 and $18 on Tuesday special menu. $10 guac too but didn’t grab a pic. Cocktails $12-15 on Tuesdays at the bar too, basically all day happy hour. Makes it dirt cheap with the InKind app savings factored in. Total bill for 2 orders of tacos plus guac and two sodas = $52

I looked into InKind for this past trip to save $50 at Sparrow + Wolf, but it didn't seem worth the minor effort, especially considering only one restaurant within an hour's drive from me is supported by the app. BTW, I'm sure it's been mentioned, but the best meal deal I've found on the strip is Ocean One in the Miracle Mile shops. There was no line at 4 p.m. on Friday when we walked by so we sat at the bar and had a great meal. Tuna tartare, calamari, wings, a cheap piece of steak with fantastic mashed potatoes and good vegetables, four glasses of bad wine, two large Bailey's with 20% tip was $62! I tipped the bartender another $5, and without asking he poured us another huge glass of Bailey's.

There's like 10 restaurants in Vegas that take it with the two best being Sparrow and Wolf and Toca Madera. Restaurants like Bazaar Meat and Mother Wolf take it in LA so hopefully they'll get added to the Vegas list eventually. Since I play at Aria all the time it's been great using it at Toca. They constantly send offers for discounted meals like $50 off $150, last month they gave me $100 off $100 dinner coupon, and you can buy "credit" at discounted rates. The normal credits are something like $250 for $300 worth of food, but they also send out promos occasionally like the one I used the other day with 30-50% bonus amounts, usually for larger purchases. They also have "challenges" like using the app twice in a month and getting 10-20% credit back on the bill for future use. Even without buying the credits you can get like 15% in credit back for future use on all purchases. The best deal they were offering was $4000 worth of credit for $2500, but would take me a while to use up that much. Great deal for a large group though. The app is super easy to use, you just tell the server you're paying with the app, enter the check number, use your credit, and tip goes separately on a credit card. Where else can you get 30-50% off the food at a high end strip restaurant?

You were right about Sparrow + Wolf. Why do you think it's disgusting? I know your wife got sick, but that happens. Did you see the kitchen? Was there something rotten, gross, etc.? Just curious. I've worked in a lot of restaurants, so I know what can go on in a kitchen -- even "fine dining." If most people knew, they'd never eat out! I have eaten meals that would make most people ill, too, so I'm probably going to be OK -- I'll let this thread know if my husband is ever affected at Ocean One 😉

BalbombRegular48 posts

Honestly I’m with you, it’s tough to make me sick and easy to make my wife sick, with that said the quality of the food as I walked in the restaurant looked worse than a chilis, and if we weren’t meeting a cheap couple I would have left. I didn’t even trust anything but ordering some neat bourbon because the sweet drinks were nasty too. Vegas no longer is a good place for value, but there are better cheap options than this. Sorry I just never expected to see this place in this thread, and I would argue just about anything else is a better alternative.

Went to the Toddy Shop popup at Parlour for their fried chicken Friday, the chicken is incredibly good. Tandoori fried, great seasoning/sauce/crust. Very highly recommend, will probably go back next week to try the other kind they have. Great sides too, the cassava one in particular was a standout. Almost tasted like a Tom Kha soup with perfectly cooked potato/cassava and much thicker than a soup. Kinda hard to describe but it was great.

Burger was top tier smash burger style. Got the Oklahoma style with onions smashed into the burger. Definitely great quality, not sure if best ever or worth waiting an hour when Yukon has no wait but I would def eat it again: $13 for double burger. They sold out by like 7pm the last few days so go early if you want one.

Weighing in on the Italian wars... I got to Mother Wolf. We tried the bread (great) salad (fine) some pizza (very good) and pasta (very good). Tiramisu was outstanding and it's a favorite dish of mine. We also had a lighter dessert. It's silly to say this isn't a good restaurant imo. But it didn't melt my brain either. Vetri Cucina at Palms. I eat at Palms a lot and just never felt like going up a special escalator for Italian. But Balbomb's been singing their praises so I tried it and I've been back 2 times. This is one of my favs in Vegas now, as it fills a special niche. The food is high quality. The portions run small by American and especially Vegas standards. The prices are reasonable. I really like being able to eat there and leave feeling full, but not bloated and not having to lug a doggie bag around and worry about it spoiling. I've had the chicory salad, which morphed into arugula with the changing of the seasons. Simply put, the best salad of this type I've ever had. It's mostly leaves, but great dressing, cheese, nuts, etc fill it out into a genuinely delicious dish. Maybe next time I can pry myself away to a different starter. 1 pasta was very good. Another pasta (the ragu) was fantastic. Had the chocolate and cherry dessert as well as pistachio cake. Both towering home runs. Also had the duck, which was good but not great and the little potato/cremed spinach side that comes with it is awesome. Maybe the one time I'd like a bigger portion. Great view, obviously. Attentive and informed service, especially as it's rarely crowded. Salad, pasta and desert with wine is about $100, very high quality, not too much, and even with the elevator Palms is easy to get in and out of with free parking. So it's really ideal for like, a great meal before poker or other activities.

Yes, I did it twice. The first time, I asked the poker room manager for all of my comp dollars, and went upstairs. I had to ask the manager to enter the order for me once we decided what we wanted. He said the poker room has a tablet where they can enter exactly what you want. The second time, I just ordered at the table via one of the food runners, and tipped her.

A lot, and then 2p2 doesn’t let you edit the post so it’s forever immortalized in casual dining history

Best pancakes in Vegas and probably anywhere in west coast are at Dupars in the Suncoast. Pro move is to call ahead and get to go because service is slow and atmosphere is not great but the pancakes are amazing. If I’m wrong I’ll take back all the things I said about toca.

I’ve never been there but just checked Yelp and it seems the pancakes are 10/10 and everything else is pretty average. I’ll add it to the list and make sure not to venture outside the pancakes. The ones at Winnie and Ethel were really damn good

pancakes really good there but for some reason my fav are at blueberry Hill on flamingo late at night. that location only and because of the cooks there on that shift. amazing.

Another addition to the Vegas burger list, totally unexpected but yardbird has a fantastic double patty burger. The short rib brisket blend was good enough after a bite to order one for takeout.

Went to Biwon for Korean BBQ and had a blast. The ribeye and short ribs were especially great.

Blueberry hill is definitely way better than it should be in general, and I like the pancakes a lot, but cmon they can’t hold Dupars jockstrap when it comes to pancakes.

My wife and I went to Momofuku last Tuesday night and both of us were astounded by the food. We ordered Spicy Cucumbers, Ginger Scallion Noodles, and Grilled Iberico Pork. The cucumbers were really good and the flavor just popped in your mouth. The crunchy things added the spice but it wasn’t too much heat. The noodles were delicious with the mushrooms being the best part. But that pork was the most tender and flavorful of anything we’ve ever had. The bill was $140 total.

This place is now on our must have list for Vegas trips. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I guess I'll have to try breakfast at Winnie & Ethel's, the steak looks good. I've only had lunch/dinner so far and thought it was sort of average. It didn't help that they were out of a lot of menu items every time I went. I also don't really get what they are going for with their theme - it's a beautiful modern decor that would suggest a trendy place, but the food and music suggests overdone 50s diner. They are still really new and probably figuring things out, but I hope they get rid of the cheesy 50s schtick and go in a more trendy direction ala Makers & Finders. There are enough shitty 50s diners in this city.

Knives no restaurant deserves more than two chances for you to have a great experience. I had to learn that with marche bacchus. My wife and I had easily 30 great meals there, even looked at having our wedding reception there. About 2.5 years ago, they lost most of their staff, went through 3 changes in chefs, and we tried at least 6 times and it was never the same. The service went from great to horrible, never saw the same waiter, special menus would look amazing and never taste up to par.
