A friend got something from a casino saying you have to show up a certain day and you get a free cruise for two. Called and they said it was $100 each. I assume they just give these to certain slot and table game players they consider good "customers". Also assume there is gambling on the cruise. Has anyone heard of this? Is this legit? Not sure this is the right forum, but I couldn't find one for slot gambling, etc.

I know someone that's gotten a bunch of comped cruises, but they were always from the cruise line itself due to gambling on the ship. He claimed the cruise lines don't track pit play as well as major casinos, and that if you just, "act like a baller, " (his words) the pit bosses have the authority to throw free cruises at you. I suspect he was downplaying his losses though. I realize this doesn't answer your specific question, but I would assume it's legit and you just have to read the fine print. Like you might be responsible for port fees, taxes, and gratuities, which can add up to a fair amount depending where you're going. As long as the deal is coming from a legit casino I would guess it's basically for real though. A lot of cruise lines offer pretty amazing fares these days anyway. The business model seems to be to get a captive audience onboard, then make all their money with upcharges (expensive drinks, art, jewelry, gambling, shore excursions, etc.). All your basic meals and stuff are covered though so it can be pretty economical if you don't get carried away buying extras.

I'm still pretty new to casino rewards, so this caught my attention. Is getting something like a free cruise fairly common for regular slot players, or is this more of a special promotion for high-value players? Curious to hear if anyone here has received a similar casino perk.

Annually giving away free cruises used to be very common. It seems to be less common over the last few years but still far from uncommon. Generally don’t have to be high roller or VIP but not a lowest level perk either. Also note free can be misleading. Almost always you still pay port fees and taxes. Also some cruise lines, NCL IIRC, charge a significant registration fee. Casinos get these very cheap if not even free because the cruise line will make money off of things like upgrades to balcony rooms, drink packages, excursions, on board for fee activities, etc. basic cruise cost isn’t really that much. It is all the others that raise the price. But the higher level players often get better cruise offers. Wife used to routinely get no port fees and balcony rooms. Also higher levels often get longer offers. Lower might get 3-4 day cruises while higher levels get 7 day offers.

mod: i deleted a few innocuous looking posts that are more than likely AI spam bots just creating account that will slip under the radar now to make them harder to ban later. Not 100% sure they are spam, and apologies to them if not, but all signs point that way. felt bad to do now, in an era where we went over a week without a new post, but spam is spam.

I’ve redeemed a couple cruises before from US land based casinos. As others noted, it’s not 100% free. The basic fare is covered (usually for an interior room) and you’re required to pay the additional fees that usually include port fees, taxes, possibly gratuities, etc. You can also choose to pay more for a better room, such as a balcony. Regardless, it’s still a nice perk that’s usually valued at hundreds of dollars. The cruises I redeemed were for Virgin and NCL.

You can (always?) have the gratuities removed. Wife always does but only so we can tip directly in cash. Allows us to tip heavier for those more deserving.
