Finally swung by the Fontainebleau. There are some quirks with the lay out. Takes quite a while to get from the parking to the casino. But, it is very impressive once you get in. I would definitely suggest visiting and walking around. I went to Don's Prime, which is one of two steakhouses. The other, Papi's had a very pretentious vibe, with an actual velvet rope, and I was not well dressed. Don's is a nice place with a cool atmosphere. They played classy, relaxing music, including lots of jazz. Fwiw, I sat in the bar and the girl who served me was absolutely gorgeous. It was a pretty, well lit restaurant. Free bread and butter! Creative too. It's kind of like a savory monkey bread, with salt, pepper and parmesan. Tasty.

Don's chopped salad. Very nice, and also original. Heavy on chick pea and Lemmon, giving it a middle eastern flavor. Light and a great prelude to a heavy meal.

I was not extremely hungry and would be doing stuff after dinner, so the 22 Oz steaks were out. I went with the salmon in lobster reduction. The fish was perfect. Crispy skin, buttery flesh. The sauce was nice, and went great on the bread.

Staying semi-light I got asparagus au gratin. It was ok. There wasn't much cheese. The asparagus was kind of dry. But, I guess it was a lighter option and if you want something swimming in cheese, you get the potatoes.

Got some cheese cake to go. Delicious. The berries were kind of liquid, almost like frozen berries. Which, of course, is what you use for a good strawberry shortcake. The liquid ran into the crust and was great.

Read through a few of the most recent pages on this thread, but wanted to ask everyone’s thoughts. Coming to Vegas for a bachelor party from Australia, group of 10 of us. We’re planning 2-3 nights of fine dining when we aren’t playing poker tourneys those nights. Any suggestions, ideally at least one steakhouse, one Japanese, and anything else you would recommend. We will be booking very far in advance. Last time I came to Vegas SW Steakhouse was all the hype. Not sure if it’s still good post-Covid

What’s the budget? Joel Robuchon if everyone’s willing to spend $$$

Pretty flexible, if something will knock everyone’s socks off Robuchon would be fine. Ideally $100-$250ish per person though (for food excluding drinks). Half the group don’t drink. Is Robuchon top tier/must try you think?

Robuchon was the best dinner I’ve ever had and it’s not particularly close. Would be tough to get out of there for less than $250/person though. We spent $400 each and went mid-tier on the food order with one drink each( one extra dessert, and one dish with a $45 upcharge. L’Atelier is their sister restaurant literally next door and would be easier to do for under 250 each. Never eaten there but everyone says it’s great. Toca Madera is a great spot for a bachelor party, pretty cool atmosphere and the food is incredible, especially the steaks. Not sure I’d call it fine dining based on how loud it can be in there but the food is top tier and it’s a little less expensive than a place like SW. Few pics from Toca:

You’re a legend! Toca looks good, will definitely research it. That is also a very strong recommendation for Robuchon so will have to consider that. The menu looks awesome there. Any Japanese places you’d recommend? I hear Nobu is not worth the hype :p

I agree. Bazaar is one of those places where you have more fun in a larger group. by 2xanman m (https://www.twoplustwo.com/post?postId=58412392#post58412392)

If you're willing to go off-Strip, Kabuto and Yui are great. Nobu is Nobu. Not sure if I'd say "not worth the hype" because that's obviously pretty subjective but it's certainly not worth the money compared to other options. You run into a bunch of celebs though if that's your thing. Robuchon is extremely classic french fine dining. Certainly one of the best (and most expensive) restaurants in Vegas but I'm not sure if it's the right place for a bachelors party. In case you're the groom, just do the honeymoon in Paris and go to a place like Le Pré Catelan which is run a student of Robuchon (and has 3 Michelin stars) 😀

As far as a high end meal for a bachelor party.... then you either need to book a lot in advance or need a place with a private room. I would say é would be a good spot for that, but they don't even seat 10. Of course Kabuto is great, but I have no idea how easy/hard it would be for a seating of 10. I'd say Kame, but I don't think it fits in the budget. I will also agree with the Bazaar Meat suggestions. Maybe the Grand Cru at Partage is a bit gimmicky, but certainly worth a mention... a private room would be nice. It's just not flashy on the outside.

I think the restaurant doesn’t need to fit a bachelor party vibe so to speak, we’ll all be in Vegas for a week, so we won’t be having rowdy meals every night. The main criteria is that it can seat at least 8 people. Worst case if only 6 fit too, we can send the 2 vegetarians in the group somewhere else, they’re cool with that. We mainly just want to hit the current, top restaurants, that are ideally <$250pp ex alcohol. I’ve seen restaurants fall off over the years, so basically want to just know the right places to hit so I can book 3 months in advance given the big group 😀 Thanks for all the input so far, lots of interesting options I’ve been sussing.

It is las Vegas. I think the lobster mushroom risotto appetizer at LPM at Cosmo is $80. Specifics are welcome.

I seriously can’t imagine going to a bunch of these places with 8 guy friends. Robuchon is spectacular so is guy savoy, a bunch of the tasting menu places are overrated but people on here love them. I would embrace the vegas vibe. Go to vetri the views are amazing and you won’t get Italian like this outside of Italy and nyc. Bazaar meat is a great idea but prime, cut, scotch 80 prime, Bavettes are all top 10 steakhouses in us. In terms of Japanese, I personally would struggle for a recommendation. Japanese food on strip is arguably more overpriced than anything and the off the strip gems are too small. I might substitute that meal for maybe a place like Jaleo for tapas, wing lei for Chinese, or Milos for Greek seafood.

Based on what? I've never been to Vetri and am curios what sets them apart. FWIW, when people in the US talk about "Italian" food almost always they mean "Southern Italian" because that's where the vast majority of immigrants from Italy came from even though the population split South - North is 30 - 70 (I had to google that number). My home town is a little over 5 hour drive from Milan in the North. Food up there is very different from the Mediterranean olive oil based cuisine in the South because they're closer to the Alpes instead of the Mediterranean sea. So lots of butter and cream instead of olive oil.

People love them for multiple reasons. You have a tough time deciding, you are with a group where it's much easier to get the tasting than separate orders, or you trust the chef to give you something that you might not normally have or is in season. Also, you get to taste more things than just lb or more of steak. I'm actually surprised how you can mention Guy Savoy and not understand this.

Totally agree on-strip Japanese is the worst option in terms of value/quality. I think a group of 8 guys might enjoy an AYCE sushi lunch spot off strip (if you have anywhere close to good eaters). Suggestions are in other LV food threads, but Sakana and Sushi Neko are at the top of the list, imo; plenty of others do a good job as well).

I mean I can give you a dissertation on at least 8 different regions of Italian cooking, beyond traveling all over Italy in college my wife has had personal lessons from chefs from different regions of Italy, or you could look at the menu and do a little research that vetri is one of less than a handful of great Italian chefs in this country. Your post comes off as quite condescending, I am not going to give a food recommendation without going to a restaurant multiple times and without knowledge of other options.

Btw as a follow up, Toca Madera is extremely mediocre and has no value unless you are in the vegas vacation mode and price is not a concern. Everything on that menu I can find you something better and mostly if not always cheaper.

Much bigger fan of the menu layout at a place like savoy or back in the day Picasso where there was a limited menu with multiple courses and you pick one of each. I have yet to find a chef I am so in tuned with that they know better than I do what I’m in the mood for. Even a great omakase I’m happy to do once and then go back and formulate an a La carte order around my favorites. Also I pretty firmly align myself with John Curtas that going to a restaurant is not about indulging the whims of the chef, it is about making the favorite food of the diner. Far too often those are not the same things.

The latter wasn't my intention, I'm sorry. Regarding the former, you specifically said "you won't get Italian like this outside Italy and NYC" and not "in this country". So you're saying that a restaurant in LV is more Italian than a restaurant in Lugano where people are native Italian speakers. FWIW, I've never been but there's a 3 Michelin star Italian restaurant in Hong Kong and Don Alfonso 1890 in Toronto has repeatedly been named best Italian restaurant in North America. So I don't think it's unreasonable to ask what makes Vetri better than those places? But I'm also always getting a tasting menu on my first visit to a restaurant if they offer one.

Wow sad 2+2 trolling has made its way into LVL dining thread, sad. For a large group of guys dinner I’d definitely do a steakhouse. Bazaar would be at the top of my list. Definitely seems the most innovative and interesting out there. I’d also consider some off strip places. I’d consider places like Herbs & Rye and Cleaver. Both are really popular local steakhouses/cocktail bars that are well reviewed.

I’m not currently up to date on my Lugano or Hong Kong Italian Michelin scene lol. I’m saying that easily half of the menu if not more will be an approach to northern Italian cooking that you can’t find almost anywhere. Additionally, I recently went to mother wolf, vetris casual Italian place at red rock blows it away.

Never been to Cleaver. While I haven't been to Herbs in years, at the time it was kind of a discount place and the quality reflected that. It was a fun place and ok for the price, but it's not a high end steakhouse. I guess I'm the only one who likes morimoto for Japanese on the strip? I'm not a big sushi guy, but the sushi seemed good to me. The other food was good, as were cocktails. They are big on presentation and it has a fun vibe, which would be cool for a party. I think it's also significantly cheaper than Nobu. It's the same guy who did Nobu.

Yeah Cleaver and Herbs and Rye are the same owner and very similar. Definitely not high end steakhouses but a potential option to mix it up for a large group of guys. Is there a somewhat high end steak place not in a casino and where you don’t have to drive Uber to Summerlin or Henderson.

I posted a very nice experience above. If you're lucky enough to eat in these places, it's better to just enjoy it than to be a petty fault finder so as to puff up your ego about how refined and sophisticated you are. Sure, at crazy prices, you can note imperfections and the fact that this place is better than that one. Ultimately, it's just food and most high end strip places serve really good food that only a small % of people get to try. What a waste to be one of those people and constantly complain.

BalbombRegular48 posts

I’m a fat guy who has been going to nice restaurants since I’m born. Has nothing to do with ego but to quote you at these prices it’s correct to point out imperfections. If you are at a family owned place you try to give them the benefit of the doubt and tell people all about their good qualities.

I could see wanting to mix it up and try something different. That being said the cost of an Uber is likely under $20 with tip. You’re bound to make that up in food cost savings. I went early on a Friday for dinner and it wasn’t busy. Uber is likely 15-20 minutes each way. You might make up a good chunk of that time with quicker service than a strip restaurant.

I'm generally a fairly pessimistic person, but am good at finding the good in experiences and things like food, movies, shows, etc., and agree it's got to be so defeating for almost every experience to be some shade of meh or worse. So much more enjoyable finding pleasure basically every time. My buddies and I did a bourbon tasting trail lately and I had a wonderful time at each and one of my buddies is pretty bourbon spoiled and so every stop was bad to mid.

We did the tasting menu. The regular menu looks pretty small -- I was surprised. It doesn't have as many choices, which is tough for my husband who's a little picky (he despises mustard (one of my favorite things) and mayo and won't eat liver or raw beef (two other favorites of mine)). He did OK with the tasting menu, though -- only a few things he wouldn't try.

Wow, looking at the Sparrow and Wolf menu I'm thinking of changing my mind again and just ordering multiple items from their menu. I love monkfish and never see it anymore, so that's a big draw! Also, I can keep my husband happy by knowing what we are getting 😉 Thanks, Da-Nit

Every time I've been to Partage I've seen errors in technique and preferential differences. Would rec Sparrow and Wolf over it by quite a ways, especially considering difference in price. Edo is the best restaurant in Vegas bar none Also don't know if Aroma is ever mentioned here, but it's absolutely fine dining in a horrible location and unreal price. They'll close at some point because they have no idea how to get people in the door despite the James Beard nod and Yelp awards, so get in while they last. Don't have a full liquor license unfortunately (have wine and beer), but their corkage is $25 I think? Haven't paid for it in awhile

I had such a mediocre experience there I’ve never been back. Been saying for years I need to give it another try. Can you provide a dish or two I can use to convince my wife we have to give it a shot? Date nights are too infrequent and I think we both are reluctant to potentially burn a meal when we have so many tried and true favs

don't know enough to claim Edo is best in vegas, but imo the tasting menu is great value for around $80.

Glad to hear pushback on my opinion of Partage. It has a lot of common with why I like EDO as much as I do. I've not been back in a couple years so I'll revisit next week or the week after Gonna explain my opinion on Partage and EDO in longer post but share some recs on EDO. You are able to order items from EDO's tasting a la carte as well btw. HOKKAIDO SCALLOPS SASHIMI* Abalone Salpicon Sauce, Lemon, Espelette ..........................27 Raw, body temp. Abalone liver in sauce is powerful and maybe too much shellfish for some, but scallops are sweet enough to hold imo. Very out of left field prep of a scallop crudo where salt, oil citrus will not be at forefront. Replaced their peruvian baby scallops which hit all of the aforementioned notes with something that shows cooking, creativity and a direct upgrade in quality of ingredients. You will not find a scallop dish like this in rest of Vegas KUROBUTA PORK CHORIZO* Cured Egg Yolk, Piparra Peppers, Txacolina..........................23 Comforting and rich. Piparra Peppers border on too acidic, maybe too many. One with stem attached, not intentional :( Accompanying bean stew flavored with Iberico is insane. Enough texture left on beans. Great example of classic, ugly food in kitchen that is leaning more and more heavily away from this as time goes on. RIP to the morcilla that it replaced though. Not sure if anywhere is serving morcilla in Vegas currently GREEN TARTARE Zucchini, Avocado, Pistachio Vinaigrette..............................18 Complex and refreshing 'salad'. Pistachio forward with raw pistachios throughout in addition to vinaigrette. Good to have throughout the meal as quality of ingredients won't noticeably deteriorate over time PLUMA IBÃERICA* Campari Tomato Confit, Garlic Chips, Layered Potatoes ..........39 Not many direct comparison points you can make at this point between EDO / Jaleo / Bazaar as there are stylistic differences in Pan con tomate / croquetta / bravas, but medium rare Iberica that's cut thick enough TARTE FLAMBÃEE Wagyu Pastrami, Jalapeno Oil, Manchego Cheese From tasting menu. Need to order more things from it after looking at latest. Very nutty, high quality Manchego. Effort in treating the wagyu is appreciated as so much of Vegas food rests on having it on its menu, dish likely addition for the sake of addition without added complexity

I'll revisit Partage before sharing a dated opinion actually, but happy to shill EDO. Spain is my most traveled to country for food and I've been to every three 3 star in Paris with the exceptions of Kei and Plentitude (please accept my opinion I've eaten a lot of food.) Having plowed through many tapas and pinxtos places in Spain and America, I can say that I don't need to go to Spain to feel like I can get a 1:1 in quality of food (though the experience will obviously be not the same.) This is I think the only restaurant I can say this about in Vegas. The kitchen has gotten more ambitious and skillful over time while still being able to deliver on familiar notes when leaning into classic preparations. It doesn't suffer from the menu constraints that it's contemporaries do. Jaleo, Bazaar, even E is largely the same as it was five years ago. Food evolves and these places don't, so they become dated over time. It's very grating to go to E where the idea is to lean into being creativite, playful and fresh and to see many dated techniques and food sold me to with a now obnoxious markup. Very much of Bazaar's menu is to show you something familiar and do something very novel with it, but it doesn't hit the same once you've seen it dozens of times. You might go to EDO and not like some of the flavors, but they're done with intent and the actual cooking is consistently of high quality from my time there, which is very impressive considering the scale and how ambitious the dishes actually are. I would argue that the amount of cooking and prep that happens is as if not more complex than the strip tapas places with a fraction of the team I still go to Bazaar frequently for steaks. They always have bar seating and the vaca vieja is something that I crave. I was put off after going to Jaleo last month and think I'd pick many places in Cosmo over it at this point

Just posting to hold myself accountable to respond. Both of these places have had my favorite ever restaurant at some point. I’ve been to San Sebastián about half a dozen times for food. My last visit still had covid precautions in place which takes quite away from the very convivial atmosphere that would be there, so I hope it’s back to that at this point

Toca Madera at 8:45 on a thursday night. party of seven so they gave us our own room and happy they did. the back of the restaurant is filled with music and vibrant conversation about and funded by expense accounts. would be hard to talk amongst a table larger than four. food was a twist on classic mexican. great guac, solid enchiladas, nobody ordered steak. first round of cocktails for the ladies were photo-worthy but they say the next was weak and slapped together. shosh*tos hot and salty, calamari just fine. decent reviews from the scallops and branzino entrees. $127 each out the door with drinks. oh, did i mention halfway through the meal a woman swallowed fire and blew it out her mouth? happened on the main floor as a sideshow. as for Edo, 7:30 on friday. party of seven reservations, seated at a long table in the front window. service was seamless, timing a bit rapid but table side you never found your water glass half full and all staff could describe the course on your plate. ordered from the tasting menu below.

Spoiler Show

we all added the iberico to start and the scallop for sexto. a couple added the strip instead of beef cheeks, i think they made a mistake the bluefin with lotus chips and the tart are familiar, the salad unique with greens and a soft blob of warm cheese at the bottom -- loved it. same for the octopus with gallega sauce add a few bottles of spanish wine for $209 a head total, well worth it

What’s the consensus on best tasting menu style restaurant in Vegas right now? Been to all the old Michelin Star level places (robuchon, guy savoy, Picasso, l’atelier, Michael Mina, wing lei), and a bunch of other great Vegas restaurants. Wondering what I might have missed that I should try to go to on a trip soon? Seems like Partage is a favorite in here, anything else?

partage, le cirque, bazaar meat, mott 32, and anima are all great choices. partage is still my favorite off-strip option. bazaar meat’s high-end tasting menu has multiple exceptional bites. i like edo too for a la carte tapas, but anima’s tasting menu was better. one pet peeve for both anima and edo is that group tasting menus come with shared family-style dishes - i prefer when everybody is served an individual dish.

Sorry in advance for the OT post. I did search the site, but nothing recently came up and I do appreciate advice from this forum. I have Le Bernardin booked for next month. I have never been. Any recommendations? Not for cost reasons, but my GF is leaning to à la carte as everything sounds good and we normally share/swap dishes. I think RED said that he liked the tasting menus on first visit, which I agree with, but are we getting a bad dish here ever? If we do opt for a tasting, then is the wine pairing a must in this scenario (I know the general opinion in this forum is that it's not good value).

WymanRegular36 posts

IMO you can't go wrong either way. Tastings are great when you're decision fatigued (I usually am), and sometimes they hit you w something you'd never order in a million years and you get your socks knocked off. Otherwise no reason not to a la carte and do what's best for you. Love something? ****, order another one. I agree about skipping the wine pairing in most cases, but that's just because it's expensive and frankly I usually dont need or want that much wine when im eating -- if I'm drunk by the end of dinner im not even getting full value from the already expensive food menu. Just my .02. Have a pre-dinner cocktail or sparkling wine, and then have 2 glasses of wine over dinner. Way better experience for me, personally. There's no wrong way to eat a Reese's...

We are going to do à la carte at Sparrow + Wolf (although I was torn with your recommendation of Partage) because we like to share, too, and the tasting menu includes items my husband won't eat/like. (Also, à la carte seems like a better deal.) Check the corkage fee at Le Bernardin -- might be worth it just to bring your own. We are taking two bottles to S+P for $50 total corkage, which is a steal if you like good wine. We can rarely have enough wine with dinner 😉 I love having a sip after each bite. I just hope we take the right wines. Thinking of a sake for the beginning dishes and a Bordeaux for the latter. Now off to see if there is a wine thread! Look forward to reading about it. Went to Guy Savoy. To kinda address the question above, I think Picasso is the best for value/experience (tough to beat sitting by the fountains), Rubicon has the best food. Guy has the best service and the just go nuclear on giving you extras and perks. The bread and butter is great, with delicious butter imported from France and like 12 different breads to choose from. It's hard to not fill up. I got chestnut all the way. This is an ongoing thing, with the ingredient rotating by season.

One was a delicious soup. One was kind of a pastry. Got a plate full o' birds. I think the official name is different. It was kind of an ugly plate, but it tastes really good. My waiter told me it was better with truffles and offered to load me up for free. He was right.

Had this pastry for dessert. It was a beautiful dish, perfectly prepared. I would warn that, while very tasty, it is not a very sweet dessert.

I still got sweets though, because after that they wheeled over the huge dessert cart. I could have anything I wanted, but was pretty stuffed, so I just had a few small things

There was the mini burger and some kind of soup... I guess I was there about 2.5 hours. I talked a lot with the staff, who were bright, interesting people who were really into their field. They told me about the chef, dishes in other seasons, etc. When you leave you get this really good muffin like treat to take home. It was their Friday, so they had extras and let me have as many as I wanted. I'd pay $25 just to go hang out there for a while and eat the bread and butter.

Been to Le Bernadin twice, once very young when it was the first time I realized that Vegas steakhouses were not the best restaurants in the world (still great), and last time just before Covid. It’s one of those places that might not blow you away in one area, but the cumulative of perfect cooking, attentive service, intimate atmosphere make for one of the best dining experiences you can have. I’m a sucker for old school perfection of more basic dishes than the abstract oh it looks like an egg but it tastes like a carrot bs you get at e or alinea or minibar.

I've only gotten a wine pairing a few times, but it's always been a moderate amount. I'd guess, especially being off the strip with many customers driving, they aren't going to serve you like 6 full pours. Hard to imagine a restaurant where they are deliberately putting many customers over the legal limit, when they order a standard meal. Come on in to Pedro's for our happy hour deal: an enchilada plate, chips and salsa and 5 margaritas!

I’ve had some of the best wine I’ve ever tasted and best pairing with food through wine pairings at high end restaurants. The best somms really do an incredible job. Get the wine pairing is my advice.

If your big winos I’d go with the pairings. You’re likely to experience wines that you normally don’t drink and it might open your eyes to something new. I’m also sure they’ll do a good job of pairing wines that complement the food really well.

I don’t think I’d want to get drunk. I want to be in a state where I can still taste and enjoy the food and different wines.

Appreciate your sarcasm, but I'm not talking about getting drunk (it would take more than one bottle by myself, anyway) or "full pours," but I want more than one sip of wine with each dish. We did the wine paring at Picasso and the pours were generous, but our guest was a friend of the wine distributor and they took very good care of us. I've also had wine pairings where it was a sip or two small sips, and you can barely get a taste for the wine let alone appreciate it with the food when that's the case. The wines do look interesting, though, and I trust a professional's choices over mine, so we'll probably go that route. And BTW, they don't give a **** if you are driving or not (we won't be). I've never had a restaurant stop us from ordering a second or third bottle of wine (for two) or had anyone stop me from my second or third round of "two for one" margaritas. LOL. They only cut you off you when you are visibly drunk, and sometimes not even then.

Yeah, if you take it upon yourself to get shnockered the restaurant will assume you're not driving. If you drive, it's on you. I'm saying they aren't going to have a standardized meal that puts you over the legal limit. At least, that is my assumption. Could be wrong. But I think it would be very irresponsible. The legal limit is pretty low. 3 drinks in an hour will do it for smaller people.

Sorry to bring this up again, but has anyone done the tasting menu at Sparrow + Wolf with the wine pairings? Looks as if they give you pairings with almost every dish, but is it a glass of wine or just a sip? I'm waffling between a la carte and our own wine or the tasting menu w/ wine pairing. Really trying to figure out what's best for us, but we are big time winos so want to ... See full post

I can't speak to sparrow + wolf, but places normally portion for the meal courses or length of the meal. Obviously there are exceptions... I posted my obnoxious champagne pour at l'atelier last June and places like é with 15+ courses and people that bring/share their own wine can be too much, but the latter is for a shared seating. Personally, I'd be surprised if it was more than half a glass. I want to say a third, but it depends on the courses and length of the meal.

I probably didn’t phrase that well, obviously anything fish is fantastic, I would say in the realm of Michelin star dining, how great the restaurant is understated compared to others. Both times I’ve been there are in my top ten meals I’ve ever experienced so I love it.

I’ll own it, it was probably me and I still say it’s catch with a Mexican flair. You want steak you go somewhere else, you want Mexican you go somewhere else. What am I missing?

So if you want seafood, are you going somewhere else?

I think this talk about wine pairings falls under the you can’t plan everything category. If the wine pairing for the first course isn’t to your liking, you can either cancel it or start grabbing a can’t miss from the wine list. It’s off strip so the prices should be on the verge of reasonable

Going for a few days soon. I plan to have meals at bavettes and sushi Neko. Anyone have an opinion on Prime vs Bavettes vs any other steak house within walking distance? Also I've heard sushi Neko is very busy and doesnt take reservations, and other highly recommended AYCE sushi spots? I've heard sushi gorilla mentioned a few times

BalbombRegular48 posts

I almost typed this without seeing the rest of your response but sushi neko is not destination dining. It’s good all you can eat sushi but there are 6-12 solid options for ayce and some almost never have wait times. If I was visiting I would just yelp ayce and go with the combination of highest rating and most convenient. Bavettes is great for dinner with your friends or eating at bar, prime is great for big date night. I like to also throw some love to scotch 80 prime and delmonicos, think they have the strongest sides and apps. Finally burgers at nusr el et (no need to dine there just pick up) and lunch burger at Peter Luger are best in town currently.

I have also never been to Le Bernardin, but look forward to your trip report!

Gwen dropped her phone into the langoustine while taking a pic, which was slightly embarrassing. They brought another one out in under a minute even though I didn't feel they needed to. I will say I was a bit disappointed in the dover sole. It was fine, but definitely one of the dishes I would have ordered if we did a 4 course, so I had high expectations. Everything else was fantastic. The salmon-caviar probably being the star of the meal for me although some might say it would have been too salty. The halibut wasn't much to look at, but it was incredible. The train broke down before the Princeton station. Gwen wanted to just cancel and eat the no-show fee, but I ordered an Uber and we made it there a few minutes to spare (we did call and they said they would give us a 15 minute grace period, so I guess it was with 17 minutes to spare... but still impressive we made it at all considering the weather).

It's a restaurant in NYC with three Michelin stars. Gwen booked it as soon as this month opened up and still only got a 5:30pm reservation. They could definitely charge more.

I obviously can't wait for Java's review.... I understand it's expensive and I even reached out for opinions, but you could go to the lounge for a few bites and a drink for a fraction of the price. I think my dinner at Guy Savoy in LV was more expensive, so I don't get the gripe. I almost wish I wouldn't have posted the price, but it's not exactly a secret. And unlike some higher end restaurants in LV, this is a very deep menu if you don't want to with the tasting. This is insane

As planned, we went to Sparrow + Wolf for my birthday on March 28. We had an early reservation (needed to get to the poker tables), which I had made for outside. When they seated us inside, I didn't question it because it was so windy outside, but it seemed strange that they didn't mention it. Inside is dark (lighting, black paint, tables, etc.), and the music is a little loud, but nothing like most restaurants today -- at least we could hear each other. The food and wine was good, but I don't think it was worth the price -- as someone else wrote, things in Vegas rarely are. However, I would definitely go back to Edo and Hiroyoshi for their tasting menus; I would not go back to S+W. Highlights of the menu were the oxtail hummus (my husband absolutely loved it), braised rabbit agnolotti (probably my favorite), and the honey pork secreto (my husband's favorite). The oyster duo was very good. The kanpachi, banh cuon, monkfish, and kalbi rib cap were disappointing. Kanpachi was bland. Banh cuon was OK, but nothing special and the sauce was overwhelming. I was really looking forward to the monkfish. It's one of my favorite fish, but it's so rare to see on menus. Unfortunately, this tasted like a bland piece of cod -- no "poor man's lobster" flavor. The sauce on this dish was very good with the potato, though. Kalbi tasted good, but the sauce overpowered the lobster and the kalbi -- I separated them as best I could so that I could taste the meat. The service was fantastic and the dessert was good. The most upsetting thing was a $5 charge for a bottle of tap water. Seeing that on a $500 check almost ruined the evening. I did remember to take a few photos: Above the bar:

Good choice. Bouchon is quite good imo, and it has the right vibe where you will feel you had a fancy experience. Vetri Cucina at Palms. Great view, outstanding food, pretty upscale. Salad, pasta + dessert is right around $100. They don't have massive portions, if that's your thing. But the above filled me up and I'm over 220.

I feel like it’s the cool thing to not like Hell’s Kitchen but I think it’s super touristy and also proves touristy doesn’t always mean bad. I’ve been there 15 times, mostly at a discount or free, but the service is always good to great, atmosphere is cool, and the food is just so much better than it needs to be. Well I guess if we are on subject of tourist traps, Wellington is fantastic at Eiffel Tower. It’s probably my wife’s favorite restaurant in vegas because of the atmosphere and service, but some of the dishes are top notch French food: filet with foie in a red wine reduction is perfect. Prices on wine are maybe the worst in vegas though, and it’s the most stereotypical French menu but sometimes that is perfect.

I feel like some of the fancier places my wife wouldn't enjoy some of the courses that are more adventurous with seafood/sushi/raw fish? outside of shrimp/lobster as she isn't a big fish person. We'd like to get a good value, but I wouldn't like to have to eat double of all the courses that don't align with her. Other than that we enjoy most other things. I’m trying to think of other Vegas restaurants that were touristy and guaranteed to be packed every night. Tao, Hakkasan, top of the world, mon ami gabi, n9ne back in the day, giada, maybe even Delilah’s. All of these places that had big waitlists and either the service would suffer or for a few the food was always subpar. I love that bazaar meat pic where they display the middle of the steak. I think I just talked myself into the tasting menu in 2 months.

You can create a better menu for the same money or less as the tasting menu at bazaar meat imo. If it’s your first time there get: Ferran Adria Olives Cotton Candy Foie Gras Jamon or Jose’s Taco Bagels & Lox Cone or Caviar Cone Smoke Oysters Classic Tartare Split whatever main course meats and sides you want No matter what, everyone should be going to Bazaar Meat though. It’s absolutely one of the best restaurants in Vegas.

Yeah, the pricing on the tasting menu doesn’t make sense though, as it would be cheaper to order the exact same items a la carte. So even better to just order what you want.

This is $111. The ribeye is $98 for two people. The tasting menu is like 12 items for $205 and this is 7 for $160. Also, zboiii asked for a tasting menu and you said that you can create a much better menu.... by giving the tasting menu? Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't think that the price was a factor. Also, for at least one party where adventurous dining might be an issue, then sharing might not be much of an option here.

Thinking about taking family to Edo while they are out for a few days during WSOP. A couple of questions for those who have been that I couldn't glean from Yelp reviews. What is the noise level during dinner? A couple people in the group don't do well in loud places. Has anyone done the wine pairing? I saw a review that said the base pairing was just a glass with the first half and a glass with the second half of the meal, as opposed to a true pairing, but that seemed odd so I wanted to confirm. Thanks to all for their reviews in this thread, I wouldn't find places like Edo without it!

Edo's great, but it's been years since I've been so no idea if it's the same. I don't remember its being loud (we usually notice that -- hate it -- not sure why Americans are so darn loud) and I remember more than two glasses of wine 😉

Aside from a yelling match with 3 older women I don't remember it being loud, but I've only been to Edo on the earlier side so maybe not the best recommendation.

Seemingly a horrible person but Steve Wynn really knew how to run casinos and his wave of having great chefs run their only restaurant in his casino really spurred on the vegas fine dining scene starting with Picasso and Michael Mina, and later at Wynn with awesome places like Alex and Bartolottas fish restaurant. It might have lost some luster but that was one heck of a run, and in Picasso’s prime it might have been one of the great romantic date nights in America.

Went back and found this review of my first trip to Picasso. Incredible to remember that this was literally the best meal I’d ever had when I went for the first time 13 years ago. Incredibly fortunate that we’ve been able to go multiple times since. Don’t know if this should be considered fine dining or casual but went to Bazaar Meat for the first time tonight. Incredible dinner, loved everything. Skirt steak at $42 is a steal. The pan con tomate was unbelievably good, that was a big surprise (wasn’t expecting it to steal the show but it did). Not cheap but not absurd either. Def will need to go back before they close which is supposedly happening soon.

John Curtas said in a land of 15+ incredible steakhouses it might get lost, but you stick bazaar meat in any other city that’s not ny, La, or Vegas and people would consider it the best steakhouse in America. I previously felt that way with carnevino and agree with bazaar meat.

Maybe they factored in price, though it's not listed and having a website in English is. Kinda weird, I'd rather use google translate than get fleeced. Obviously, it's sort of splitting hairs anyway. It's not some big secret how to make a good steak, mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus etc. If you hire good people and give them a good budget, everything should come out pretty well and it will largely be a matter of personal preference, a consumer's subjective state on a given day, maybe little fluctuations in the quality of the ingredients or the job a particular cook does, etc. Sure you can get more creative, like Bazaar Meats, or just add in your own wrinkles like Scotch 80. There's the view, the ambiance. I strongly prefer a piano player to piped in pop music for 22 year olds. But that's just me. You could mark down strip places for being a hassle to get to, unless you are staying in the hotel, then hammering you on parking. Or for being too informal. Or maybe the outrageous portions. You could favor the strip places because you do stay there, get comps, prefer less formality, like Flintstone portions and can drink more without driving.

It might matter quite a bit if you drink wine, beer, cocktails or soft drinks. It's still fun to look at the list though. I would like to try some of these places for sure.

Had another great meal w friends at Anima last night. Is in the class of rockstar restaurants, particularly on this side of town. $530 pre-tip for 4 so not a cheap night, but that does include a round of cocktails, a $145 bottle of wine, and a round of (a much better than Nonino) Amaro at the end.

Sadly 530 pre tip with decent amount of booze that feels like a steal in vegas right now. Seems like Anima is going to be an all time classic off the strip restaurant, consensus has been good to great from everyone I remotely trust with food, and I personally prefer the atmosphere there to edo.

Sorry mods, I don't know if this actually belongs in the LV FD or in the casual but I'm kinda of shocked about the challenges getting into Carbone? Back when the place opened for the first couple years I could walk in the place (especially if it was earlier, or later) and usually snag a table for one (at least in the non premium times/summer time, non big event weekends etc) like especially on a weekday. Now, not only can I not get a reservation at all, I can't even sit at the bar? I was told now the bar is not first come first serve? It has it's OWN reservation system? What? I mean, don't get me wrong it's a solid place no doubt, but I mean, it's really THAT GOOD.....I mean I don't think so. It’s Vegas, there are between 6 and 600 fine dining restaurants here depending who you ask. You are completely right about the popularity, it became even more the it place to be than when it opened. Btw, single guys in this thread, becoming a regular at the bar there is a pro move. For the old guys, I would equate it to what n9ne at the palms used to be. The food is above average but the environment is 10/10. When everyone is having a great time, food is good, service is great, it makes for a great vegas restaurant. I think the move is go before they open, slip the front desk girl or better manager a 20 and ask if you have a table sometime tonight and that you are flexible with time. I think there are alternatives in terms of good southern Italian food in vegas, but there really aren’t alternatives when it comes to atmosphere.

salmon and tuna tartare

chilean seabass tempura with fresh chili dashi and red onion

toro and yellowtail sashimi, salmon belly sushi, and a fatty tuna roll with finely diced scallion roll

here's my contribution to the fine dining thread. ate at Kyu at Fontainebleu last night. I'm not a big fan of fancy food but with some dining credit wanted to take the wife out for a fancy meal. Sunday 7pm the place was rather empty. it did fill up a bit by 8pm. good chill atmosphere, all the staff was awesome, made us feel like VIP. corn ribs: quartered cobs with some kind of aoli and Japanese pepper and squid ink was mentioned which sounded weird but there was nothing but deliciousness grilled octopus with vinegary vegetables: wife loved it, I did too. the meat surprised me with how good it was. didn't taste too fishy. duck breast: takes 30 minutes to prepare. perfectly tender, perfectly seasoned, already sliced so it was easy to eat, the sauce was a perfect compliment. could not have been better. dark chocolate s'mores cake with banana-bourbon ice cream. one of the best desserts I've ever had, what else can I say? the cake was unbelievable. we do not drink alcohol and I didn't tell the wife about the ice cream before but it was definitely boozy. and amazingly delicious. she didn't let me finish the ice cream but I wanted to. I have nothing but good things to say about the experience. loved everything about it. bill came to $128 which felt like a steal. highly recommend.

in my two brief visits to Fontainebleu, I am very impressed.

Went to Kyu and agree with the praise. This was one of the weirdest drinks I've had but really good.

Had a nice dish with raw tuna and pears, and the saddle lamb for an entre. This was good but tasted even better as left overs. Lovely peach mille feuille for dessert.

I also went to Don's prime and would like to advocate for it again. Chopped salad: this is a lighter, veggie heavy salad. So if you want a wedge or something get that. This is made with a lot of chickpeas and is really good. 8/10. Potatoes Gratin. For me, these were perfectly prepared. I usually ad salt to Potatoes and most things. This time I did not. So maybe salty for some. For me, these were exactly how I want the dish to be. Super rich, lots of cream and cheese. 10/10

Wagyu: I am not an aficionado. I've had it maybe 10-12 times, I think at 3 different places other than here. While I've enjoyed it, I sort of liken it to a crazy sports car vs a great daily driver. I mentioned to my waiter that this was my favorite wagyu and he told me it is a special olive fed type. I found it to be extremely flavorful and rich, but I felt it was more restrained and enjoyable than other examples. Sometimes wagyu feels a little like eating a deep fried twinkie. This felt more like a real steak, though extremely rich and decadent. I guess, running with the analogy of cars I've never been in, it seemed more like a Rolls Royce vs a Lambo. Didn't get a good Pic, but it wasn't all that visually striking. It came with a port reduction and some spinach. The meat was too good for sauce, though I used it for 1 bite. I'd suggest just using the sauce for the spinach. Temped to do a Spinal Tap but 10/10 Cheesecake: very good Cheesecake with a softer texture and plenty of berries. 8/10. I feel like my cardiologist should get a kickback. I'm sorry that FB is struggling. I think it's a beautiful place. I liked the rooms. I've been to several restaurants and the food ranges from good to great. They are generous with comps.

Chopped salad: this is a lighter, veggie ... See full post

LOVE a good Gratin. how much for the Don's Prime meal?

Sometimes wagyu feels a little like eating a deep fried twinkie. This felt more like a real steak, though extremely rich and decadent. I guess, running with the analogy of cars I've never been in, it seemed more like a Rolls Royce vs a Lambo.

This is an interesting take, but thanks for sharing.

About $325, though I paid for much of it with comps. The steak was $200 and I had 2 adult beverages. The normal food is pretty reasonable for a Strip steakhouse. Last time I had the salmon, which is way cheaper and excellent. It would go well with the potatoes for a more balanced meal. Going off memory, but I think you could have the salad, salmon, potatoes and a softdrink and it would be about $100.

Just a friendly reminder that Morimoto sucks. Had MGM specific comps, so bit the bullet again last night because everything at mgm is bad. Some of the stuff looks pretty, but lol at people paying real moneys there.

Any specific complaints? Have people trying to steer our group there for dinner before or after KA.

I liked it and it's far more reasonably priced than Nobu. There are some dishes I liked a lot and some that are just fine by the standards of a place like that. I really enjoyed the old fashioned. Almost none of these places actually "suck."

Just read that Picasso at Bellagio ran by Chef Julian Serrano is closing in August. "Before Serrano retires, Picasso will host a one-night tribute dinner open to the public; details are still being firmed up. Once word of the retirement and closing emerges, Wagner said he expected to be booked solid through the last night of service." "From Sept. 3 through November, Prime Steakhouse will serve from the former Picasso as Prime undergoes renovation"

my SO is pescatarian and we eat out a lot mostly vegetarian (get 600 or so in meal credits every month at strip casinos) . these are some of our fav dishes . LPM at Cosmo , potato au gratin , and gnocchi bavettes at parkmgm mashed potatoes elite , brussel sprouts (salmon is awesome). Crossroads at resorts world (all menu is vegan/vegetarian ) these are on the fringe of fine dining but all nice experience .

Find someone else to eat fun food with? I guess Milos would give you a bunch of vegetarian options and you could pick from some lighter proteins.

Yeah, I've been to crossroads a couple times. It's very good. Maybe not as satisfying, but you leave feeling better. It has an upscale atmosphere and good service.
