Thought about posting this in the MTT forum but it seemed more logical here. I've never played a WSOP event but I am strongly considering this one. I'm curious if anyone has played it, is the structure good, and what the quality of play was like?

Huge bump. Do pots in this event tend to go multiway or is it usually heads up against the BB?

Not multiway like in a low stakes or super fishy cash game. But there are some 3 or 4 handed pots.

Good to hear, because I feel like I could get decent in heads up pots with my current tools. Trying to gauge the difficulty level at this limit holdem event. I've never played limit holdem before, but I have aspirations of possibly playing in it next year for a shot at a bracelet. Trying to figure out the perfect preflop hand chart to create for myself, but information online is severely limited. Been reading Small Stakes Hold'em Winning Big With Expert Play, but I have a hunch the material could be outdated. Seems like a good read so far, but the opening hand requirements seem a bit too tight. I was assuming Limit Hold'em would be a bit looser play than no limit due to the fact you can better realize your equity without getting bet out of a pot.

Overall, the tournament is quite soft, but you do have some very good LHE players in there, too. I'm sure with some study you'd be fine. The small stakes book used to be the bible for low stakes LHE, but it's pretty outdated.

I would think it's the opposite because you can't make as much if your longshot hands hit. Tournament poker is different than cash though, for LHE or NL.

I was looking at the Cepheus Poker Project and I noticed that for HU limit hold'em BB is calling a lot more hands from a BU open and will 3bet lots of pairs even the low kind. It will also pure call hands like T2o and 93o which would be folded in no limit. BU never 4bets, I'm guessing the additional value isn't worth it since most hands want to call and it is better to have powerhouse hands in the calling range against the 3bet. BB also 3bets a lot more than in no-limit, however the sizing is forced to be small so it kinda makes sense. Based on this I assumed that ranges would be wider when expanding it to full ring, but this might not automatically be the case for opening ranges. I feel like this would be true for BB defense. Pocket pairs including the low ones are probably a bit stronger in limit holdem than in no limit.

Nevermind, pocket pairs are actually weaker I guess. Hands like ATo, KJo go up in value. This game is weird, but I'm going to figure it out eventually.

I was totally confused by this thread. Clicked on the first post and was curious how I missed it, because I read 2016 as 2026! RIP all the forum regs we've lost along the way. As for the questions about the tournament. It is now played at 7 handed, so a majority of hands are going off heads up. Any loose passive style will get eaten alive.
