I recently spent a week playing tournaments at Crown Melbourne and played some cash games, when I was trying to find information on the poker games I found limited info so I figured I would post my newfound knowledge! I only played up to 5/10/20 NLHE and PLO. Limits: 1/2-2/5 are always running and often at least one 5/5+ game. Limits 2/3 and lower are probably not beatable due to the rake. Rake: 1/2 - $5/hr + 10%/$8 - $80 max buy-in. Don't play this. 2/3 - $5/hr + 10%/$8 - $200 max buy-in. Don't play this. 2/5 - $10/hr + 10%/$6 - $500 max buy-in. 5/5/str - $25/hr - $1000 max buy-in. 5/10/str - $25/hr - $2000 max buy-in. 5/5/str PLO - $25/hr - $1000 max buy-in. 5/10/str PLO - $25/hr - uncapped buy-in. The 5/5+ games have live straddles and often get placed by all players when agreed upon. Other games: There were a few other games running during my stay at various times: 1/2 plo, 10/20 limit omaha, 20/40 limit omaha/hold-em, 25/50 plo, 100/200 plo. Hope this helps!

A rare concession from Crown. The rake on 10/20 and 25/50 NLH and PLO has been reduced from 10% capped at $50 to 10% capped at $30.

Wasn't the earlier $10 cap already the highest in the world? The current rake is just legalized theft! I see them ripping $25 out of 2/5 pots and think the dealers should all be wearing stocking masks over their heads. Shame Crown shame!

Anyone know what kind of numbers the Sunday tournament has been doing?

There were 83 players at last Sunday tournament. The 10th money seems around 1000 dollars. The first place around 10000 dollars.

Last Sunday tournament had 120ish entries with about $14k up top. I wish I knew it at the time because got there a bit later but need your members card and you need to buyin with casino chips for it.

Going back 15+ years, you have always needed a Crown card to register for tournaments, But these days you need a card to play anything, so the queue to sign up for a card can be long. On NYE, I’d say people were waiting at least an hour.

Oh really, I’ve never really played at Crown so was unsure how it all worked. Few players told me the Wednesday Turbo gets about 250 entries each week which I thought was pretty crazy.

FYI it takes about 3 hours or more to get in the money. I played the wednesday tournament at last month and got in to the final table .it was almost 12:30am,when I finished ( I got the second place.) There were 215 entries at that time.so you need to leave enough time for the tournament if you are planning to get in the money.

First thing you need to get a Crown rewards card (https://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/crown-rewards/join-now). Depending on when you go, this could take 1-2 hours, so get this done ASAP and ideally not at a peak time if you don't want to line up for a long time. eg. Feb 9/10, especially at night, would be a very bad time to sign up for a card. You will need to set a spend/loss limit (https://www.afr.com/companies/games-and-wagering/cash-gambling-at-crown-melbourne-capped-at-1000-20220920-p5bjl9) (I think this is only on slots and electronic machines, not table games). A friend of mine asked what the maximum is, and she said, yeah, put that down. I don't play anything other than poker but I will ask some questions at a Rewards desk when I'm next at Crown (prob this Wed/Thu). I think they might only issue cheques for payouts of $1,000 and above, but I'm not sure. This is not the case for poker, at least not for <$10k (not sure about $10k+).

2xanmanRegular49 posts

Poker less than $10K AUD no paper work or forms needed for cash in and cash out As Kerr mentioned, you need to sign up for a free players rewards card to play and get on the list. Go off peak like during the day, and walk around to find an empty crown rewards desk. You’ll need to show your passport to get a members card, but that’s as far as it goes. The biggest regular game that gets up is the 5/10 which often has a $20 straddle. It’s normally very soft, softer than Macau 50/100 for sure. Most of the good pros have stopped coming since COVID, but you may be seated with a shark or two with 6 figure+ Hendon mob. Games very beatable though 2/5 is the smallest game thst runs at peak times, and it is probably one of the weakest 2/5s you’ll ever find Have fun and tell us how you enjoy it

Think the room is good and it's an improvement from downstairs. One thing I find hilarious from a business point is crown not giving reduction for short handled. Break every 3 hours let's say only 3-4 come back after break on time and other 4-5 are 10 mins late. If no reduction is given there is no incentive to play short handed as the rake is too absurd. Also raking preflop too. Yikes. I love Melbourne as a city but Crown fkd you all hard here.

New short series got announced for start of April - they were announcing it yesterday in the room. A couple turbos, PLO, and a freezeout all $550 buyins ($480+70) Main event is $1500 buyin ($1300+200) https://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/casino... (https://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/casino/offers/crown-poker-series) I hope they start using their facebook/twitter pages again to get the word out for it though. Asked the TD Sam for structures and got told they will be on the website soon.

Given how long the tournament break was, and the turnover of staff, I imagine few dealers know games other than Holden and Omaha. Can you ask the TD if (and hopefully when) tournament results will be uploaded to Hendon Mob, and if the answer is “they won’t”, then why?

I asked a guy last month who I think was above the TDs, casino manager or something. Got told they are waiting for approval/clearance before they can - involved making sure it's okay because HendonMob is a third party site or something alongside player information. Past tournaments are on there so I don't know why it's different now though. He did tell me though that once they get given the 'green light' that all results since tournaments started back up would be posted.

I wonder how receptive the poker room would be to new games these days. Like you mentioned Kerr there’s probably been a dealer skill drop off. I’ve been loving Big O lately (5 card PLO Hi/Lo) but I can’t imagine a crown dealer in 2024 dealing with a quartered pot :p Back in the day, you could request a new game like pineapple, and they would typically start up a waiting list

Asked again last night about results (I've got a win and a couple places I'd like to see on my profile) - got told it's in motion and to keep an eye on the website. I noticed that their Crown Poker Series is listed on HendonMob now - ended up checking the site and looks like it's all gotten a big update with structures for the series coming up. I'll chuck the links here: Schedule (https://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/getmedia/6b790f70-ddb4-4f94-b1b4-a001903daf7d/crown-melbourne-casino-poker-series-tournament-schedule.pdf) Structure (https://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/getmedia/9fcf90eb-a4f4-4c8a-bcd0-e668e1fd6ae7/crown-melbourne-casino-poker-series-tournament-structure.pdf) @kerr Apparently majority of the staff let go were pit bosses. Crown Resorts to slash 1000 jobs (mostly in Melbourne). “The chief executive said the restructuring was due to softer economic conditions and gambling restrictions. The challenges at Crown reflect greatly reduced foreign tourism, a sharp decline in local workers in the city centres, and restrictions on gaming play in Sydney and Melbourne.” https://9news.com.au/national/crown-reso... (https://9news.com.au/national/crown-resorts-1000-job-losses/4ee89d56-b2c3-432b-b22f-96976f4fe2b5) In poker-specific news, Crown have added more games to their list (check Cash game list below). On the board right now is 2/5 NLHE/PLO mix (interest). https://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/casino... (https://www.crownmelbourne.com.au/casino/table-games/poker#cash-games) 10/20 Limit Omaha Hi/Lo 20/40 Limit Hold’em / Omaha 2/5 NLHE / PLO Orbits 5/10 Two Card Manila 5/10 Three Card Manila 5/10 H.O.R.S.E. Other than NLHE/PLO mix, the chances of the other games getting up is slim. They have to train up some dealers first. HORSE could run if a group confirm in advance they can get 7-8 players.

kerrRegular97 posts
Posted May 1, 2024, 5:22 AM#56

Of course HORSE is limit, you usually have to get to an 8-game mix to introduce big bet games. NLHE/PLO should be very popular but the AM last night was being a dick. Constantly on the mic saying it needs to get up so the bosses know there’s interest, if it doesn’t run it might never be offered again. Cry me a river, it’s a Tuesday night. At 6pm there wasn’t even one table of 2/5 PLO running. Run the mix from Thursday to Saturday and it will definitely get up each night.

Six events including a Teams event, $1500 Main Event and a $5k high roller. Bit like this thread. Do you realise, of all the people who posted in this thread, since it started, to the Covid Big Bang, YOU are the only one left. Last of the Mohicans. I checked the post histories of contributors for the first 35 pages. (Bored Sunday, waiting for the Hawthorn game to end to collect the $$$) Most last a few months, some 3 years, very few last a decade. The halo always slips; bravado migrates to absentia. Traffic decline within Australia-centric threads within 2plus2 reflects the bigger picture. Players can't sustain continual losses and drop out, they move to other interests, and the increasing rake is fatal. [To think - people used to complain of $8 cap+ $5ph. Luxury] The $25 @ Crown may not last. They may retreat to $20, or heaven forbid, back to the pre-Covid $15, if the keep-it-alive philosophy returns. (But never 24/7 operations). Need a raft of efficiency improvements though - the managers smart enough to analyse and implement, may have moved on. I don't know who you are, but I would know you by sight. Conversely, you would never pick me, but would definitely know me by sight. I have worked out on few in here. (I could tell you about the first time I sat on a table with 6betme already seated, the welcome 'greeting' he tendered, and the price he paid for it, but that's another story). The only one I would like to have worked out was the notorious SupremeGentlemanPoker from YouTube (he has wiped all his Vlogs though) - very funny and entertaining young man. Whilst on YouTube, the Vlogs from MEL, BNE and SYD regs were a godsend, when your paths eventually crossed, and they had already pre-filled you player database form for you. Easy money playing exposed egos. (And for well over a decade I played everywhere in Oz/NZ -160 days per year. Many in MEL & BNE thought I lived locally due to frequency, but I lived in another state altogether) Tears in the rain.

I’d hate to have shares in Crown, they should just shut down. Would be awesome if the stupid government would allow legal poker rooms to operate, but they care about responsible gambling while pokie venues in every suburb rip millions of dollars every year from people that actually can’t afford up lose a few thousand dollars. PS: good win to the Hawks, might even win their next 4 games

Played the turbo opening $550 last night - fairly big crowd, was like 200+ players with like 25k up top - busted after the 2nd break. Rego booth was stupid crazy - they had to open another booth to accept registrations because of the line. Once again I asked about results and was told it's coming - it's getting ridiculous now that it's been this long with nothing online yet getting told repeatedly that it's coming? Is it or is it not? I joined the new facebook group they have but nothing is getting posted in there - not even payouts or even anything for the opening event. How hard is it just to AT THE VERY LEAST post the results for their first event on it. Starting to think it's just laziness at this point.

Crown is self-imploding. For the past hour, loud static has been coming through the overhead speakers, sounds like fireworks. It’s just relentless. They’re handing out earplugs to anyone that wants them. We also had some Latin fellows banging drums in Fidel’s but that’s over. I’m regretting leaving the house.

what were the numbers like for the CPS ME?

I played flight 1 (did no good) - was 130 entries for that. Came in on the Monday and saw the total players was 319 so means they would of gotten 189 for flight 2. Paid top 35-36? With like 100k up top.

I think we have seen enough from the current management that they will not send results to Hendonmob, which is the most important place for results. by kerr m (https://www.twoplustwo.com/post?postId=58581986#post58581986)

PS: good win to the Hawks, might even win their next 4 games

If Hawks didn’t choke against Port, they would be 6th right now, They still have games against WC, Richmond and Norf to come. Hawthorn’s first 7 games: 1W 6L Hawthorn’s last 7 games: 6W 1L

They’re restricting basement parking more than usual lately, Gold card minimum. Did anyone go to the old Sports Bar at Crown? I think it was where the Poker Room is now. And before that it was Planet Hollywood. I remember watching Liverpool defeat Arsenal 2-1 in the 2001 FA Cup Final at the old Sports Bar, so Planet Hollywood must have closed within 2-3 years of operation.

Gold, Black and Platinum (yes, free). It’s not every day but it has been noticeably more often lately than in recent years. The old Riverside Lounge is open again, they didn’t change the carpet though. Don’t think it’s actually called Riverside anymore, probably doesn’t have a name and it’s now open to everyone, previously required at least Silver membership. Drinks area was barricaded, I presume they won’t be offering free (non-alcoholic) drinks anymore.

That’s actually crazy! I’m the past they only closed like 4AM to midday on Anzac Day, Easter Sunday, and one other day it might’ve been Christmas? Crazy to have so much shutdown in a period that’s usually super busy, NYE is usually a big night

kerrRegular97 posts

The casino is always closed 4am to 12pm on Good Friday, ANZAC Day and Christmas Day, effectively 24 hours each year. Very weird to close on Boxing Day. A lot of people coming from the cricket will be in for a shock when they see the poker area is empty / barricaded.

2xanmanRegular49 posts

Anzac Day, Good Friday and Christmas morning are fair enough to be closed, you gotta respect the ANZACs and you NEED to be given a break if you were planning to rock up before noon on Christmas or Good Friday 🤣

kerrRegular97 posts

Supposedly the shutdown of the room is due to penalty rates. I can understand Christmas Day because patronage may not be high enough, I would not be surprised if the poker room closes on other public holidays next year, maybe Good Friday or even the whole four day Easter weekend.

Tuesday was rather dead. Today however, 101 on the list for 2/5 with only 4 tables running (no 2/3, with 24 waiting for the one table of PLO). Wonder if this will be the norm for the next week given penalty rates and limited staff. They probably shouldn’t run tournaments between Xmas and NY, in fact, pre-covid, Crown only ran tournaments February to November. Staff are suggesting it’s at least a 4 hour wait to get on a cash table.

I think it's high time the state govt took away the poker monopoly from this disgraceful bunch of money-grubbing profiteers! They charge one of the highest rakes in the world (because they can), close the entire room on the most popular days, and open only a handful of tables when they DO open the room. A city of 5.2 million people deserve much better than this disgrace of a 'poker room' being allowed to continue to cynically exploit Melbourne's poker community!

kerrRegular97 posts

A dedicated and legal poker room would serve players far better than Crown, like what they have in Texas. Just heard from a mate that 2/3 is running but as they would do last year, they have hidden the list. It’s visible till about 3pm or so, then they hide it, players just have to wait until they get an SMS. Pre-covid, Crown would maintain a live site with what games were running, how many tables for each game and how many people were on each list (numbers, not names). You could also see what the Royal Flush jackpot was. 2/5 NLH list currently 104, will no doubt continue to grow, reminds me on 2020 and waiting 4 hours to get a seat.

kerrRegular97 posts
Posted Dec 27, 2024, 8:26 AM#100

2/5 list now at 133 I lol at those playing 2/5 and buying in for the minimum ($300). I managed to get on the 2/3 list because it flashed for a couple minutes and I registered on the self-register terminal, then they hid the list again. Just 3 tables running, I was 53/53. Ridiculous under the circumstances that each player will flash for 4 minutes before being removed. So if there’s one seat available and you’re 16th on the list, if they have all left, that seat is yours but you will be waiting 60 minutes to get it.

kerrRegular97 posts
Posted Dec 28, 2024, 12:52 AM#101

Scrolling through my text messages from Crown, I can see that in late November 2023, the message changed from 4 mins to 5 mins to collect your ticket from the registration desk. That makes the wait 25% longer when you’re down the list. They would be better off flashing an extra 1 or 2 people per seat. And I notice that @crownpoker deleted their Twitter account recently. They hadn’t used it much post-covid.

I’m giving the place a miss for a week. Staffing levels might be better from mid January. Have heard they will re-do the carpet in sections without the room being closed entirely. Also heating more rumours of AM in 2026 although they will need more floor space. Does part of the basement re-open for a month? Can they put tables somewhere else? I would love it if they (permanently) got rid of the slot machines next to the poker area. I have often wanted to smash and destroy the noisy machines.

I've heard the $180 figure before (or some variation on it). I'd like to see a breakdown of the costs, especially as we know that the dealers are paid in the $35-40 range, and Crown pays minimal rent. Prior to the increase in the cap from $15 to $25, I added up the rake on four different occasions over the course of an hour. Average gross revenue per 2/5 table then was $283. Now with the extra $10 from hands where the pot exceeds $250, the average hourly gross is probably closer to $350. Even if the $180 cost figure is correct, which it is reasonable to doubt, $170 net profit per table, per hour ain't bad.

kerrRegular97 posts
Posted Feb 2, 2025, 12:46 PM#112

Management wants more rake and thus more hands per hour, and most time is wasted pre-flop making change. As with any memo to dealers, some ignore it, while some take it to heart. Some dealers have already been going out of their way to insist players put out exact change rather than the dealer wasting time having to make change. The rumour is that within a couple months: Before: 2-3 NLH $200 flat buy-in After: 2-5 NLH $200-$500 buy-in Before: 2-5 NLH $300-$1000 buy-in After: 5-5 NLH $300-$1000 buy-in Not 100% sure if the min buy-in for the new 5-5 will stay as is or increase to $500. They should leave it as is so that when players can’t get on 2-5, they are more inclined to play 5-5 rather than not play at all.

I’m at Crown, the noise is too loud. I get annoyed by the stupid slot machines, but tonight they’ve pumped up the music at the bar. I want a poker room with some separation from other areas rather than open plan. Cash game changes at Crown effective today

  • 2/3 NLH (200) is now 2/5 (200-500)
  • 2/5 NLH (300-1k) is now 5/5 (500-1.5k)
  • rake has NOT dropped to $20
  • 2/5 PLO is now 5/5 PLO, buy-in unchanged Really wish they had 2/5 PLO. They have put 10 tables in Pit 22 which is between Lumia and the Sports Bar. That will be a nightmare. Expect people to be standing right behind you. One change I had suggested to them was red chip bets only. Unless all-in, can’t bet or raise to $16, $42, $69, etc. it wastes everyone’s time and slows down the game. Most time is lost pre-flop with a weird raise size and numerous callers. Crown and the players want more hands per hour, having to give change to multiple players slows the game down.

I presume you mean rake. Back in 2023 the rake for the lower games was increased from $15 to $25 and that’s where they remain. Just checked the Crown site and the rake for every single game they offer is now10% to $25. Back in 2023, the rake for the bigger games was increased to 10% to $50, then after justifiable backlash, some games dropped to max $30 rake. As of today, buy-in for $200 at 2/5 NLH or buy-in for $20,000 at 50/100 NLH, the rake is the same, 10% to max $25.

I have no specific experience with Crown. But here, most places that let you do this, it is for "promo chips" (or machine free play). If true for Crown, that is never (here at least) usable for poker. But it might be available for video poker, or roulette, or baccarat. You play it on one of those and turn the promo/FP into cash/normal chips which you can then use for poker.

Crown would do better --- in respect of responsible gaming, customer satisfaction and profit --- if it fixed the broken system currently in place. There's no reason why it could not say to the State government that it is making efforts to communicate to its clientele the value of taking appropriate breaks, playing within your limits, realising when your chasing-losses, etc. The rigid system in place doesn't achieve its objectives (taking a break when appropriate does reduce the chances of gambling harm, which individual players are best at identifying themselves, with a little friendly assistance every so often, whereas taking one at an arbitrary moment just makes poker players frustrated and less likely to believe in the value of responsible gaming measures in general). The reality is that there is no State or Federal Australian law stating that these mandatory breaks are required. While there are State laws that regulate who can run a casino via a gaming licence, the prospect that the Victorian State government would cancel Crown's licence because every poker player in the room is not taking a 15 minute break every 3 hours is highly improbable, especially since this "recommendation" regarding these breaks was specifically designed for those playing electronic gaming machines, which generally speaking are the slots/pokies, where there is a legitimate danger of customers sitting there for hours on end, by themselves, losing between 8 to 15 cents for every dollar they slot into a machine. Crown should wake-up and make a clear distinction between POKER players, specifically their lower risk of suffering from gambling harm due to the strategic and social nature of the game, and POKIE players who are in a high-risk category due to the non-strategic and non-social nature of play on slot machines, not to mention the way in which these machines are designed to profit from addiction. It could easily communicate this distinction to the State government for the sake of all involved and then commit to to an information-based, educational approach to problem gambling rather than the implementation of arbitrary measures that infantilise its customers, lessen the enjoyment of the game and reduce profit (e.g. loss of rake/increased wages to responsible gaming staff).

Not sure if true, but I was recently told that Crown initially suggested what is now in place, that one player takes a break each 20 mins but the government (VGCCC?) insisted that entire tables go on break. Will be interesting if any internationals come for the AM and play high stakes cash. “Sorry Patrik, you need to take a break, come back in 20 minutes. Oh, and you can’t play any table games during your break!”

Not sure if true, but I was recently told that Crown initially suggested what is now in place, that one player takes a break each 20 mins but the government (VGCCC?) insisted that entire tables go on break.

The VGCCC says it has embedded "a harm minimisation focus into every element of [its] regulatory activity, including how we evaluate all licencing approvals and applications," as outlined in this statement from 2023: https://www.vgccc.vic.gov.au/about-vgccc/our-position-gambling-harm vgccc Our position on gambling harm (https://www.vgccc.vic.gov.au/about-vgccc/our-position-gambling-harm)

While the VGCCC has statutory authority granted to it by the Casino Control Act and Gambling Regulation Act, I don't believe this statutory authority provides it with the legal authority to enforce mandatory breaks. It can make recommendations and threaten to withdraw a licence and/or issue a breach notice if these recommendations aren't followed but a removal of a licence/issue of a breach would likely be contested on such grounds. If a mandatory break was actually legislated by the state government then the situation would be clearer; however, if mandatory breaks were legislated then players, not just licence holders, could also contest this law, which would open-up a can of worms. by kerr m (https://www.twoplustwo.com/post?postId=59182629#post59182629)

Having not played at Crown for two years until these last few weeks, it has been notable how on multiple occasions each day there is a dispute over the 20 mins break, typically when a player goes to sit down with a rack of chips and is then told they need to take a break for 20 mins, even though haven't played a single hand: a rule that is clearly absurd. That this absurdity is not officially recognised by Crown and/or the VGCCC is another absurdity. Hence the "lunatics have taken over the asylum" comment above. It's a mess and with most forms of mess, in the end nobody wins, except the "cleaning company", which, to extend the metaphor, is the layer of "responsible gaming" staff and infrastructure that is currently sucking money out of the local poker economy and also damaging the integrity of all those researchers who've spent their lives attempting to better understand and tackle genuine issues around gambling addiction and social harm.

I dug around and discovered that the 3 hour mandatory breaks are effectively legislated via a Ministerial Direction issued in June 2023: https://www.gazette.vic.gov.au/gazette/G... (https://www.gazette.vic.gov.au/gazette/Gazettes2023/GG2023S156.pdf) Poker tournaments are exempt from 3 hour, 12 hour (daily) and 36 hour (weekly) requirements, as are visiting VIPs who are part of the International Players Premium Program, albeit for a 7 day period only. So Crown and VGCCC are effectively unable to do anything, aside from lobby the State Government. The fact that an exemption exists for poker tournaments and international VIPs indicates there is wriggle room for further exemptions (the logic behind the exemption for poker tournaments is practical while that for VIPs is likely business and tax-revenue related.) In this respect, the incentives of cash game players and Crown are effectively aligned, which is a rare win-win, positive sum situation, in theory at least. I mean, the Minister for Casino, Gaming and Liquor Regulation could simply amend the June 2023 Direction and add cash poker games to the exemption section. She would need, however, the political reassurance that such an amendment wouldn't make the government appear soft on gambling regulation at a time when the vast majority believe the government should go harder, especially in relation to advertising for sports betting and the social harm caused by pokie machines.

Rumour that the rake structure is changing at 2/5 and 5/5 games, to be applied after Aussie Millions concludes (i.e. late April/early May): 10% up to $30, red chip rake, with minimum rake of $5 You cannot make a net loss on a winning or tied hand. This means that a $149 pot "only" gets raked $10 But if you raise on the button and win the blinds, you are raked $5 and threrefore only win $2 in 2/5 and $5 in 5/5. Compared to the current situation (10% up to $25), do you think this is better or worse?

Tournaments aren’t really exempt from the 3-hour rule as they have scheduled breaks anyway.

Tournaments aren’t really exempt from the 3-hour rule as they have scheduled breaks anyway.

The Ministerial Direction explicitly exempts poker tournaments: "A casino operator may provide the following exemptions from the break in play and play period requirements set out in section 5.1 for: (a) international players as part of the International Premium Players Program spending seven days or less at the casino from the 3-hour, 24-hour and 36-hour play period and related break in play requirements; and (b) poker tournaments from the 24-hour and 36-hour play period and related break in play requirements." Minister could add (c) cash poker tournaments to this list! No need to legislate: just a matter of putting ink to paper and publishing it in the Government Gazette. I understand your point that tournaments have 15 min breaks, every 2-3 hours, built into their structure. My point is that exemptions currently exist: this means further exemptions are possible without too much red-tape.

$30? Jesus Christ I will say that the rounding down rule is quite helpful. At Star we try to change 2/5-10 tables to 5/10 whenever the entire table agrees because max rake stays the same but they don’t rake anything other than $5s so $45 pot gets nothing, 140 pot rakes 10 etc

The best way to work out if players would be better-off is to establish how many pots on average would reach the $30 cap as well as how many pots on average had a PFR stealing the blinds (where with a red-chip minimum we pay $5 in rake rather than a single $1 white-chip). For instance: If 30% of pots reach the $30 cap, players would be paying an extra $1.50 on average (0.30 x 5) per pot;

If 5% of pots involved the PFR stealing blinds, players would be paying an extra $0.20 on average (0.05 x 4) per pot;

Then in 65% of pots players would save $2.50 on average due to red-chip rounding effect (e.g in a pot of $110 we save $1; $120 we save $2; $130 we save $3; $140, we save $4; $10 savings/4 = $2.50) with the overall saving in these pots thus being $1.625 (0.65 x 2.5)

In the above scenario players are worse-off by 7 cents (1.625 - 1.50 - 0.20). If you estimated that only 25% of pots reach the $30 cap then players would actually be better-off by 30 cents (1.75 - 1.25 - 0.20). So, as you can see, estimating how many pots reach the cap on average is crucial. For example if only 15% of pots reach the $30 cap, while still assuming 5% of pots had PFR stealing blinds, players would be better-off by $1.05. Not even Crown would know how many pots reach the cap (they would only know how much rake they're taking overall on each table and therefore only able to estimate the impact of changes to rake structure, an estimate that would also involve considering number of hands dealt per hour as well as factors like how many players are entering pots, etc).

Poker room will not be open after 4pm on Saturday. They are unlikely to open in the few hours before then but it isn't confirmed. They are also closed on Tuesday (Chinese New Year) even though in Australia it isn't a statutory public holiday. Perhaps resources needed to be diverted to baccarat or slots.

If its red chip rake, isn't there no rake on pots between $0-$49? I didn't think that they could rake $5 on a $7 pot? I know they do at 1/3, but that is a very unusual rake structure.

Starts Thursday April 2. All games red chip rake, so more hands per hour. Rake 10% to $25 EXCEPT for 2/5 NLH ($30, ridiculous) 1/3 NLH, $100 - $300 *2/5 NLH, $300 - $1000 *5-5 NLH, $500 - $1500 5/10 NLH, $1000 - $4000 5/5 PLO, $500 - $1500 *no clock once rake capped Downstairs they used to have 1/3 PLO, $100 - $300. Ridiculous that PLO $1500 is the smallest game these days.

Much better value at PLO 5/5/10 (Almost always played with the $10 straddle.) Rake was $30 there last time I looked. And the average player there is far worse than even the average player at 2/5 NLHE.

I see that Crown have not bothered keeping their website updated and accurate, to be fair, the take increases so frequently that it’s difficult to keep the cash games page current. I went on Saturday and saw that they have recently added a $5 per pot “peak charge”, peak being Thursday through Sunday.
