Let's start this thread now that we know there is going to be one! I'm hoping for lot of juicy PLO games, mixed games, and I guess NLHE games Do we think we'll get a big tournament series with a large main event? Several large tournament series? Looking forward to seeing you all in person at RWNYC, hopefully in March 2026!

As a Queens New Yorker, I am really excited for this. I seldom play in casinos, and the last time I played in a Casino (Mount Aire) I was frustrated due to the lack of available tables and long wait time to play. Let's see how this casino goes!

There's no reason why we can't have something like Wynn is doing in Vegas in December, or dare I say the $25k WSOP Main in the Bahamas by All-inMcLovin m (https://www.twoplustwo.com/post?postId=59186357#post59186357)

I just can't see how they're not 24/7 outside of a year from opening. I would bet at least 1k on it if anyone wants to take my action haha by Dilly_ m (https://www.twoplustwo.com/post?postId=59186383#post59186383)

I say this honestly, you should lobby whomever is the Poker Room Manager for these things. You're a social media guy, and I am too, so maybe we can bend someone's ear about it. Depsite how much I dislike MGM, I do like the social media stuff they do for poker with Abby and those people. Something like that would drive a lot of traffic into the casino in general

Youd have to give me at least 10/1 odds lol. No way id take that bet at even money. And maybe its just me but while that social media stuff wsop has been doing is “necessary”, a lot of it feels forced and corny I hope there are big tournament series/events, but that will take time doubt it will be in place off rip

Streamed games are a way to drive action to a casino/poker room. This place won't need that. What we're likely to get is some 40 table room with crazy long wait lists while the other 2 casinos aren't even built yet. Abby is bringing zero action to mgm poker rooms. Borgata loves to use her on social media and the place is a complete ghost town. They'd be better off doing things like paying cashiers than whatever money they're wasting on her.

Has there actually been confirmation that they proposed poker and that it will be opened that soon Poker usually isn't a priority.

Indirectly confirmed through a (probably mistakenly) unredacted hours of operation document. No confirmation of whether it will be part of the initial opening or if not when it would be opened. If they’re actually opening 250 tables in March though, that’s already a huge casino, I could see them carving out 50 for poker. Bigger concern is training the staff I think.

Let's temper our expectations while at the same time, remain cautiously optimistic. If Resorts World has taught us anything, it is that no matter the demand for poker, poker is NOT a main focus for their corporation and never will be. Look at their absolute and continued botching of Poker from 2018-present when they opened RW Catskills and to this very day (moving the room twice including its first and current location being off the casino floor and tucked into a second floor nook unviewable from the main action, plus, hiring unqualified staff who do not know poker rules, etc.), and more importantly, look at their Vegas property having NO POKER AT ALL. RW NYC can be the only game in town here in NYC so to speak when it comes to poker, but that does not mean they will smartly "read the room" and set up a poker room akin to Tropicana circa 2001-2004 (54 tables), Borgata 2004-2014 (80+), Maryland Live (40+), or Parx, all of which is the best case scenario. Heck, their RW Catskills room is STILL not a 24 hour room, and while I realize there are fewer players in the Hudson Valley compared to NYC, they won't automatically keep the room open 24 hours just because NYC is the "city that never sleeps" and the rest of their casino might be open 24 hours. The only way to force their hand is to make sure that, from the jump, there are 40+ players willing to grind all night, every night, to warrant a change in operational hours, because they surely will not extend hours in order to accommodate one or two 1/3, 2/5, or 5/10 tables playing past 3AM. As for large tournaments and multi-day tournament series, again, let's not get ahead of ourselves, and instead make sure that the decision makers hear on a daily basis that there will be lots of people willing to invest in it. Speaking honestly here, I would not get too excited for any WSOP circuits in NYC because Caesar's properties will not bring a Caesar-owned outfit into a rival casino; look at who hosts the circuits currently: -Caesar's properties across the country, -Casinos with a working relationship or a history of working relationships with Caesars (reference Turning Stone in upstate NY for whom Caesar's used to run their sports book), and, -Independent casinos that do not try to compete with Caesar's. Since Caesar's sees properties like MGM, Resorts World, and Hard Rock as direct competition, and Caesar's already hosts TWO WSOP circuits within a 4 hour drive/250 miles of NYC (Turning Stone and Horseshoe Baltimore), having one in NYC is unlikely unless Caesar's obtains their own license here in the Big Apple; in fact, Hard Rock TULSA is the only site slated for a WSOP circuit in 2026 owned by a major rival of Caesar's (likely because it's in the middle nowhere with no Caesar's properties for hundreds of miles). Furthermore, even if Uncle Stevie gets a Hard Rock casino at Citi Field, I still don't see Hard Rock and Caesar's offering to partner up for a WSOP circuit because of the proximity to the other circuit events on the east coast, one of which fills 85+ tables on a daily basis in a 5,000 seat event center when it is in swing. Your best wish for multi-event week-long poker events is that the powers-that-be see the demand for poker tournaments from us the enthusiastic locals and formulate their own ala MGM/Borgata and Hard Rock Hollywood Florida. I think, for RW NYC poker beginnings, we should be prepared for a 20-table room, 1/2 NL $300 buy-in or 1/3 NL $500 buy-in being the most common stakes game, time-rake games for those above 5/10 NL, and occasional 2/2 or 5/5 PLOs running but not the norm. I'll even concede you MIGHT (pending approval of the NYS Gaming Board) see a 5/5 or 10/10 Double board Bomb Pot game on the regular, but that might even be a stretch. I'm all for poker in my city, I am a 15 minute drive to Aqueduct and I can walk from my house to Citi Field when that one gets up and running, and I will give RW NYC a chance to earn my poker business; but if Resorts World doesn't learn from their mistakes from RWC, I won't be frequenting the new poker room too often. Still, I want to see it succeed and I want to see our local poker community build up stronger because of a clean, comfortable room in which to play.

Yes, they will be, but again, I refer to the fact that RW does not value poker enough to give us a 15000+ square foot poker room and thus would rather use the space 20 extra poker tables would take up in order to put 100 additional slot machines which will generate them more revenue. We have to be ready for long waits, especially in the first couple of months. If they are smart they will allow automatic sync for Bravo to connect to players cards so we can sign up virtually, then at least you can log in at 7-8AM and have a puncher's chance to get a seat when they open tables in the morning... We are going to have to get through the initial growing pains before we see positive growth, just be ready for it...

how many slots don't actually generate much revenue anyway? That's my argument for them having a bigger room.

  1. Brings people to the casino, okay you play poker but your wife/girlfriend/friends might not and go gamble elsewhere in RW.
  2. Generates rake and there Will be a demand for poker.
  3. Poker players also like to gamble. Even "pros" go on tilt and head to the pit on occasion.

I agree we should be cautiously optimistic especially early on but check Bravo and you'll see why it makes no sense for RW Catskills to be a 24 hour room. Resorts World Vegas also does have a poker room.

Do many places spread 1-2 any more?

1/2 is going extinct. 1/3 is typically the live small stakes game in today's casinos. I'd personally like to see 2/5 (200-500) replace 1/3 as the smallest game soon.

  1. More people coming to the casino for slots than poker, by several hundred percent. This saddens me as a poker player who hates slots, but it's the truth. A 20 table poker room can conceivably make room for 160-200 poker players who came with non-poker players, and to most all casinos, that is plenty. Again, makes me sad because I'd also rather see a 40-50 table room but realism and mathematics dictate the casinos see poker as a breakeven at best vs a surefire way to essentially print their own money with slot machines.
  2. Yes it generates rake, and yes there will be a demand for poker, but the rake generated is nowhere near the amount of revenue generated by a slot machine, not to mention 99% of slot machines take up way less space than a poker table and do not need a human dealer to run it, so less in payroll to run a slot machine. A slot machine that automatically generates a losing spin can bring in the same amount of money in 3 seconds that a poker table can rake in one hand that lasts 2-3 minutes. Multiply that over one hour of hands vs spins and you'll see why casinos prefer using their square footage for slots vs poker.
  3. Exactly my point - you said "on occasion" - a casino has no reason to make a 40 table room when a 20 table room does the same job for them and makes room for more profitable games. Look - I love to play craps, but I don't play after being "on tilt" in the poker room. Craps is fun, but it is also my second preferred game to poker, and I play it in order to earn comps and free rooms at casinos because you can't get the same value perks at the poker table. Like many of its competitors, RW does a terrible job rating their table games players correctly for average bet and length of play. I'll be happy to give them my craps play when they have fixed this, but until I see changes, RW is in the same category for me as Caesar's and Hard Rock when it comes to table games rating: in the sh*tter. Look, I'm not TRYING to pessimistic here - I would love to see this yet-to-open room be like Maryland Live, Parx, or National Harbor where you know any day of the week there will be 20+ tables running at all time, but I don't see that happening until the decision makers at RW see physical evidence of 200-300 people wanting poker seats at all times, and that, my friend, will take some time, hence, tempered expectations between now and the opening of a giant (30+ tables) NYC poker room.

There's two of these that are/used to be in existence: 5/5 NL - used to be played at Dania Jai Alai in Hollywood Florida (along with 1/1NL for the Octogenarians on a budget), before they deleted Jai Alai and converted the building into The Casino at Dania Beach. 5/5 is a fun game, but not enough demand for it unless you make it as such once the new room opens and the gaming control board green lights it. Then there is the roller coaster that is 5/5 or 10/10 Double Board Bomb Pot - while it's not TRUE hold-em, the stakes run in between 2/5 and 5/10, and **** always goes down at those table if you've ever played it at Borgata.

With just the initial opening of 250 gaming tables total, it’s bigger than Borgata. Everything you’re saying makes sense I just think you’re underestimating the scale of this project and the size of the New York market. I would be astonished if their final poker room is less than 30 tables, and tbh 50 is probably closer to the minimum. As to what’s running, Parx runs 10/10 every day of the week, with a player pool that’s over half New Yorkers. 5/10+ is going to run every day.

Splitting hairs here but the double board bomb pot games where they only do bomb pots don’t run at 5/10 or higher, and most the 5/10+ games never do bomb pots because they’re only needed to generate action if the game is nitty. 5-10 minute hands that almost always chop are kind of silly

Plenty of people just won't play 2-5, in order to replace the smallest game effectively they would need to put a 500 cap on it I think. I personally play like 75% 2-5 23% 1-3 and then the very rare shot take at 5-10 when game is right, but 2-5 1k cap plays ENORMOUS compared to 1-3 500 cap and a lot of people dont want that.

Dilly I HOPE I am wrong, believe me. I want a robust poker room in NYC. I know RW NYC is large in square footage, but square footage does not automatically equal large poker room with 40-50+ tables. I just feel like there's a lot of expectations from NYC poker players who are jumping to the conclusion that "since there is no room here, the room will be huge". 200-300 on waiting lists will be great to see if in fact that is how this goes down, but even Tropicana AC had to expand their poker room pre-poker boom due to demand, which leads me to think that IF the demand is there (again, which I hope it is), RW will start with a small room, and then expand if the demand is undeniable and there for a prolonged period of time.

The problem, though, is that if they start small and get overwhelmed, some people won't go and bad word of mouth will spread. Once they get a reputation as the place where you have to wait hours for a game, it'll be hard to shake with an expansion. I know I won't go if the waits are insane...why drive 30–40 minutes to wait around for a seat if I can drive an hour more and be playing at the end of it? (Yes, yes, the action will be insane, Borgata and Parx will have died off, think of the whales, the whales...but if I'm going somewhere because I want to play poker, I'd like to actually play poker when I get there.)

Dealer school at RW starts Jan 5 and I think it’s not looking great for poker. Nothing in the application allows you to specify what game you want to deal, and it uses the phrasing “table games” fairly often. Dealer schools in general run for 4-12 weeks, with poker generally being longer than table games. Part time v full time obviously influences school length and it looks like the application implies there will be sessions each day of 4 hours. At this point I’m pretty skeptical they open in March, and near positive poker won’t be a part of it. I think July is our earliest hope for poker opening.

For poker (at least initially) theyre gonna prolly bring in outside talent. Thats what mgm was saying while they were planning on bringing table games to yonkers

The school they have listed on their website is for table games only. I believe when RWC started, they made people take the table games class before taking the poker class. They wanted to make sure table games were staffed first, then let people move to poker when they had dealers to spare. Poker is not the priority. As for bringing in outside talent, there won't be enough. Let's say it's just 40 tables. They will need 150+ dealers to fully staff them. There simply aren't 150 experienced dealers ready to drop everything and move to Queens the day they open the room, especially when it's likely to be delayed. It's not like opening a room in Las Vegas where there's hundreds of underworked dealers waiting and cheap temporary housing for anyone moving there. I talked to a RWC pit boss a week ago and he didn't think they'd even picked a room manager yet. They may try to have someone run poker and pit games like they do at RWC. I really hope Hard Rock gets construction going fast. They actually understand poker.

RW is going to try and make as much as possible off of table games and slots while they're still the only game in town. People should really reign in their poker expectations until we see something concrete. They're going to have years as the only NYC casino.

  1. Agree on poker not being a priority and that they might start with table games only first.
  2. As far as dealers go, there are a lot of dealers dealing dozens of underground games in the greater NYC area. Sure, they will need to take the classes for a state license, but many of them deal better than an average Atlantic City dealer already.

  3. probably make more dealing underground. So until those games sd the dealers are not going to take a pay cut to go to casino job

  4. if they ever had a run in whi,e dealing underground, they likely can’t get a state license

  5. even dozens of under ground games, with many of these dealers dealing at multiple,e of these, are not going to be enough. And you seem to assume these underground games just go poof to make these dealers available. Those games are going nowhere initially.

This. I've heard from a couple of old timers that when Resorts in AC opened in the late 70s (first legal casino outside of Nevada) a lot of the dealers were from NYC underground casinos and they were robbing the place blind.

Oh, come on, 9 million people? Subtract the toddlers still mastering Go Fish, the retirees glued to bingo, and the hipsters who think poker is "too mainstream" unless it's ironic with craft beer. That leaves like 47 degenerates with actual bankrolls, and half of 'em are bluffing about their rent money. One 30-table room? It'll be a ghost town with more dealers than players!

I've been told they'll have new electronic machines for table games that do almost everything. The live dealers are just there to push things around, not calculate payouts or decide who wins. There will probably still be some advantage plays, but not like when RWC opened.

When RWC opened the dealers were awful and would often make mistakes that could be to your benefit. My favorite is one dealer who would pay people out at blackjack if they had a black jack in their hand. I haven't seen them myself, but a pit boss was telling me the tables they'll have in Queens will have tech designed to eliminate these errors. They have sensors that know what chips everyone has bet and what cards are where. It tells the dealer how much to pay each person. I don't know if they will be on every table and if they'll actually do everything they claim, but that's the word. There are probably still ways to take advantage, but they're doing their best to make dealing idiot proof.

Dealers in RWC are still awful. As a matter of fact that room is featuring the worst collection of dealers i've ever seen and those dealers are still employed. RW better hire or train some talent or this poker room being in NYC and all, will generate huge number of conflicts and not just with PR personnel. I've heard from many players that considering the location, safety and game security will be a real concern and poker room incompetence shouldn't add to it.

I wouldn't worry too much about Van Wyck construction. Like death and taxes, it will always be there and always be inevitable. The Van Wyck has been under some type of major project for the better part of 28 years going back to when the AirTrain broke ground in 1998, and it won't be stopping anytime soon. There will always be a high amount of congestion in both directions on the Van Wyck from JFK Airport to the Kew Garden Interchange (Grand Central/Jackie Robinson branch-offs) during the hours of 6AM-8PM, to go along with whatever infrastructure changes are taking place. Just drive there when it ISN'T rush hour and you'll be alright - you'll just be in a normal amount of daily NYC traffic.

I’d assume the want at least a month of hype promotion once the open date is announced, so if it was early March the next week or two makes sense. Kewl I hope the gaming commish allows Dramaha, Archie etc.

99% of the time a card room employee says they can't spread a game/stake/format due to gaming, it's just an excuse. Gaming will approve whatever games the room manager compiles the rules for and submits to them. Every game they add means staff needs to be trained on that game. As far as I know, they haven't picked a manager yet so it's really up in the air. If they pick someone from RWC it will likely be the same list of games - Holdem, PLO, Stud/Stud-8, Pineapple. Hopefully they at least add Big O and more stud variants.

only legal game in town for a few years in a starving casino market is a recipe to just make as much as possible with table games and slots before the market matures a little and you have competition.

Seems like "as early as March" was just a tasty nugget to toss into the commission deliberations, rather than something they actually could/would do. Maybe they figure they're going to be the only local games for a good long time so there's no need to rush. (And really, would we prefer that they half-assed it just to get something going sooner?)

They actually only claimed March after they got the license, all the application documents said June. Regardless, it does seem like March was just a hype builder, and having no intentions of actually doing it this would also explain the lack of hype building promotion so far. March may have just been a potential date if everything went right, and that never happens. They’re probably assessing where they’re at with the first dealer school finished, how many previously trained dealers they need to hire, etc

I was wondering the same. Or even just the physical elements of the poker room, the tables, chips, chairs, etc. Maybe they decided they were dead in the water and wanted to redeploy those materials elsewhere Or they don't give two s**** about poker and we're screwed [emoji2357]

Laziness and an unwillingness to include poker would be the only reason they dont eventually put poker The table game argument about what makes more is kinda null and void because they have more than enough space for everything. That casino is the size of a mall

I was at Turning Stone during their WSOP and was there again this week. During WSOP, I had a conversation with one of their dealers, a veteran dealer with two decades of experience and who knows dealers and managers in every east coast poker room north of DC. He told me that NO ONE working any poker room within 3.5 hours of RWNYC has heard about any posts for dealer school, nor has anyone been approached to come deal poker there. Then today, he was dealing a down at my table where player in seat 2 accurately mentioned how RW does not take poker seriously vis a vis closing their Vegas room, and the absolute joke of a “room” they have at RW Catskills. Player to his left in seat 3 chimes in with, “maybe RWNYC doesn’t want to cannibalize the poker crowd at Catskills and that’s why they aren’t doing poker yet for the NYC expansion.” Talk about backing yourself into a correct answer! Seven tables running at this exact moment at RW Catskills on a Friday night, so to that I say, “what poker crowd?” Haha. I still say we will be waiting quite a while for poker, and even when it comes to RWNYC, it will be given limited thought, consideration, and attention, and will be disappointing to all of us in the poker community. Write this one off people, and hope that Uncle Stevie and his friends from Hard Rock can replicate the size, quality, and type of room they have at HR Hollywood or HR Tampa once the Citi Field project happens.

Call me crazy, but I’m still relatively optimistic on timing for RW, and I think they have a fairly good chance of being the best room in the area. Hard Rock loves poker but 30 tables is wack, and 40-50 at Ballys isn’t much better. I still think it might be in the cards for us to see a 100 table room at RW

Dilly I’m sorry, but while you are 100% entitled to your own opinion and wishes, and while I hope it will come soon and come hard, this idea of 100 tables is 100% delusional thinking. There will be, at best, a 20 table room at RW, when they get around to it, and they aren’t getting around to it for quite a while. You might need to prepare yourself to hear about poker in another new venue before you get what you want from RWNYC. Until then, gotta keep commuting to Philly/AC/CT, or, give your business to the (read this sarcastically please) “amazing and stable” poker room RW Catskills already runs.

There are 22 at Rivers in Chicago and the waitlists can be long there. 20 in NYC would be a disaster. There are 52 I think at MGM National Harbor and there the wait lists aren't crazy but they are there the relevant metro area is, what, 1/5th (?) what NYC's is (factoring in MD Live is an option, and Jersey people will likely go to Parx etc still).

Dilly_Regular35 posts
Posted Apr 2, 2026, 4:50 AM#168

Over June 21 for poker with near certainty lol. And yeah 20 tables is absurd, besides looking at Borgata and Parx as a benchmark and adjusting given the market and that the overall casino is going to have more than twice as many games as Borgata, it just seems so unlikely hard rock announces 30, Ballys 40, and resorts world would go less as the biggest of the three overall. What could happen is a small temporary room until a new part of the casino is built, and that temp room could be 20 tables. What could happen that would be worse is they just wait on poker until they have a new space built and that means we’re lucky if we get early 2028 poker lol

WhiteJesusRegular61 posts
Posted Apr 2, 2026, 10:07 AM#169

Yea the real over/under should be jan1 2027. I agree i could see a temp room being 20 tables. But a solid complete room no way. Also it would bea nightmare if poker becomes backburner and doesn’t happen til 2028+

I am visiting end of June (I'm also there in 2 weeks but no chance), if by some miracle there is poker by then I will definitely try to play and will "happily" wait donking off money at table games while I do. I don't see it though, I saw how long it took Rivers in Chicago to get going even when they announced it, this is going to be way worse. Over even on Jan 1 2027 imo.

Yeah, I think maybe later this year, if at all. I think we'd be lucky if there's poker before Labor Day but I was also thinking what Dilly was, that we'd get some kind of smaller temp room while they build out of a bigger space I forsee about 40-50 tables. Also remember, just because these casinos say 30, 40, 50, etc, they can always adjust to do more of less

Very likely roulette, craps, and other carnival games are in the mix as well. Less likely but still possible poker is involved, but it would probably be the silly 13 tables total if it opens with everything else. I haven't seen any posts from new dealers but I've seen a few things on IG and Reddit from people claiming to be involved in the construction/remodeling that are saying soon, but likely they're at least partially full of it.
