Between Christmas and New Years I wanted to play PLO at TCH Las Colinas, but I never ended up doing it. I watched the games on Poker Atlas, and it was usually 2 tables of 2/2 and 1 or 2 tables of 2/5, but always with a long waiting list (12 to 15 names). One day I put myself on both lists and showed up about 45 minutes later. There is not a big sign; it looks like they are trying to keep a low profile. I ask the brush and she confirms that I am still about 10th on both lists, and that the people on the lists are mostly real people who will probably take seats, not just people who reserved seats on Poker Atlas and are not actually there. I was thinking about milling around and watching the games for an hour on the off chance that I did get a seat, but the brush told me I had to buy a membership or leave. I didn't feel like paying for a membership since I probably would not actually get to play, so I left.

You can tell who's on the poker atlas app with the chip logo, I really doubt you would of had to wait long if you signed in 45 minutes before.
The Fort had a 20/40 LHE w/half kill today. They’re expecting it to run every Tuesday. Am I the only one who misses LHE?

I was primarily a Limit O8 player back in the day, but always found 2-card poker kinda boring.
i know this is a long shot, but...... i'm looking for 1 or more players who may be driving to/from WSOP 2024 from texas and wanting to stay around 2 weeks or so. i am driving out there due to fear of flying & medical issues, and need another person(s) to drive with. i (42m) will be staying with a buddy of mine (25m), at horseshoe. we are chill, no partying on the strip, no slots/pits, just focus on poker during trip like real poker junkies. we have gone for a few years now and really enjoy the series, look forward to it every year. we are mostly cash players, with some tournaments mixed in. my friend is flying in. if you want to room with us, that would make it cheaper for everyone (if not, that's cool). i have made the drive for many years now. it is a 2-day drive, solo, ~10 hours per day. but maybe can make it a super long 1-day drive with myself and one or two more people to split driving. obviously we would need to meet as a group beforehand, make sure we get along, can stand each other for long drive. also, will be using my vehicle (roomy, nice 4-door truck). i will eat most gas expenses, since this would primarily be accommodating me. right now, looking at May 29-June 12 timeframe. but i can be flexible to adjust to everyone's schedule. PM me if interested. looking to get booked soon.
Can anyone drop me some information about TCH Dallas v. TCH Las Colonias? General word I'm hearing is Colonias is in a much nicer neighborhood, but stacks play smaller. I've never been to Texas but we will be there for about 4 days and don't have plans (until I go broke) to do much else.
I'll be in Fort Worth in October. Where should I go to player poker? Driving up to 45 minutes from the convention center is fine. I typically play $2/$5 or $5/$10. There's no faq in the main post and there's tons of options on Poker Atlas. Any opinions / info would be welcome! Thanks!
The bigger games in Dallas will be at TCH Social. The Fort will be the closest, it’s on the west side of Fort Worth. You’ll pretty much only see 1/3 as the biggest nlhe at the fort but it plays much bigger than a typical 1/3, more like a 2/5 game, maybe even 5/10. I would just keep an eye on those 2 on poker atlas.
Thanks! What about the places south of Fort Worth - Texas Double Deuce, Poker House Fort Worth, and 5220 Social?
I haven’t been to any of those rooms. They have much less traffic, at least according to Poker Atlas, than the Fort does. The pictures I’ve seen make them look like really nice rooms, but I rarely see more than one table at a time running.
All the 2-5s in Texas play bigger than the average game else where. At Dallas generally one game only, but uncapped. Social has the bigger games and gets plenty of 2-5. I have not played at the 3 smaller rooms you mentioned. The Fort is a fun experience, and definitely different, they got an odd 2/5 game going and that was one of the biggest 2/5s if not biggest I've ever played due to one player. Anyways playing there over 20 hours, there 1/3 is a good size game, but it can't hold a candle to 2/5 at the other locations in terms of size. Games like everywhere vary greatly, but at least you have plenty of selection at Social. I will say the Fort gets ROE 5/5 a decent amount of the time, if you can handle that game I would assume it's good. It's weird how much 2/5 runs and not much above it, just the 2/5 is so big. Have to imagine the 5/10 plus have to be tough games unless private.
RECAP: I asked you guys about TCH Social, Dallas, and WinStar. I played all three, with the exception of no cash at Dallas. The games play stupid there. WinStar was garbage. End of story. Bad beat after bad beat and the community/players all are obnoxious. TCH Social is hands down one of the best poker rooms I've ever set foot into. It's comparable to rake and actually I think it's less than what a rake costs. That place is a decent poker player's dream. The action is absurd, 1/2 plays like 2/5 and 2/5 plays like 5/10+. You will get coolered more than you think but if you get it in good, you'll get paid. Players don't like to fold. With the straddles and what not, it's pretty common to see first action raise to $25 or $30 in the 1/2 game. Plus, the dealers, players, and general community are all pretty cool. TCH Dallas also hosts some pretty sweet tournaments.

Winstar is soft, you want bad players, this is where the vast majority of your winning will come from. That being said Winstar even their 2 5 plays way smaller then Texas, way more passive, from what I have played.

Sounds like Fridays are popping off big time now. He's in the room quite a bit. I play a day schedule, but the games have definitely got a little splashier and even deeper. Few more grinders showing up and matching stacks are gonna have an effect. Curious about how the upcoming tourney is gonna do.

Bad beat after bad beat is a good sign, not a bad one. I believe you about obnoxious players. There have always been a good # of obnoxious players at Winstar and throughout the Dallas scene. Most obnoxious player I've ever played with was at Peaks poker room right before it transitioned to Poker House. Won't go into details but pretty sure any legit poker room would have had security on him within 30 seconds of him entering the door. TCH is generally better about handling obnoxious players, although I'll never forget the player who often frequented TCH Dallas (perhaps still does?) that you could smell consistently from 2 tables over. I heard he got kicked out for it sometimes but it was still happening and I'd rather have to deal with the constantly loud obscene and obnoxious guy than that odor. by LanceF m (https://www.twoplustwo.com/post?postId=58510054#post58510054)

Unfortunately the 2/5 plays tiny compared to the 2/5 that used to run at TCH Dallas. by jay94 m (https://www.twoplustwo.com/post?postId=58510551#post58510551)

Playing against loose passives is more profitable than playing against loose aggressive players. Back in the day Winstar 2/5 was an absolute gold mine with all the loose passives playing there.
Versace got banned from TCH social about 2 weeks ago, be thankful if you never had to play with him, infamous is how I would describe him. Supposedly he's banned at hard rock Tampa as well heard other rumors of other rooms as well.
For whatever little it may or may not contribute to this thread, I have been playing at Winstar for 13 years, and after a few minutes of racking my brain, I can literally only remember one true jerk I've EVER encountered at a table. Only one. Truth be told, I play mostly 4/8LHE, but I do dabble in 1/2 and 1/3 from time to time. I usually have a GREAT time when I go up there to play. It obviously depends on your definition of obnoxious. Saturday night there were 3 different people at the table who hadn't showered. That's just wrong on so many levels. It was the first time I'd encountered that. There's the occasional player who calls out his entire thought process on every hand, including pointing out that the person who won the pot made a mistake by entering it and got lucky (I encourage those people to clam their traps!!! Most of the time they actually listen.). I don't want to belabor the point, I'm just stating my experience, and I am but one man with but one opinion.
I have a SERIOUS question that I hope people will approach with an open mind. And I promise to consider all answers with an open mind. What would you say to somebody who is genuinely interested in playing at TCH or any of the other DFW-area cardhouses but is "paranoid" about the legality of it?
I would think that if the powers that be decide to bust them the players would face no consequences. Even when poker rooms were fully underground here, when they were busted the only ones who faced any consequences were dealers and owners. Players are typically just sent on their way. I guess you'd lose whatever your current buy in is, but that's probably it. My opinion is based on heresay though, I've never been at a place that was busted.
I got a random text from "TCH" to download an app called Hijack Poker. Obviously, not clicking it, but did they have a data breach?
No they have ads up in TCH Social and on their website for it. I don't understand how it is legal.
Just àn alert to anyone looking to play in Johnson County. 5220 is now screwing over it's regulars in it's most popular game - dealer's choice. Of course playing this game is at your own risk as there are teams of players who soft play each other and squeeze out newbies. This game has been their bread and butter for the year or so I have lived in Burleson. So what does management do? Make the DC players continue to pay full time while implementing a new special for players who want to play $1/2 NL. You can spend $10 and play all day. (plus the $10 door fee). Meanwhile the DC players continue to pay $13/hr. They changed management a few months ago (not ownership) and it is poorly run. Tournaments now have shorter blind levels after break (15 minute levels to 10) and they have increased the price of add-ons at the break to $40 for $40,000 or $80 for $80,000. Who wants to stick $125 intp a $1000 guarantee tournament? Not me. They have maybe one or two good dealers and the rest are complete newbies (including the female floor who somehow passed her TDA test despite not knowing what the one chip rule is. Saw this first hand and just shook my head). Anyway if you are interested in DC, Double Deuce is gonna be running a game every Tuesday night where the rules will be set and not made up at tge floor or regulars discretion. Hopefully it takes off and 5220 loses business. Sent from my moto g play - 2023 using Tapatalk

Probably way more concerning things to worry about than the legality of it for players if you want to feed your anxiety. It’s been operational in the public for a substantial amount of time so typically situations like this require public notice before action is taken against participants or the police is acting in bad faith/entrapment. You can look at the Houston situation when they tried to close down prime social in Houston if you want to see how it would play out/the process they would usually take if they want to close an established business that is licensed and has been in operation for a substantial time. Texas attorney general has publicly stated multiple times he doesn’t want to rule on the legality of club poker so if a county/city has an issue with a poker room they’ll deal with the business/license side of things not charging players.
What's your paranoia? That it's going to get raided while you are there? That's about a 1 in a million shot. Sent from my moto g play - 2023 using Tapatalk

The Houston attempt to close Prime Social was a farce. The idea was that failure to close them down would lend credence they couldn’t be shutdown. The fix was always in on that one. The AG doesn’t rule on legality. That is for the courts. AG can express opinion. He can choose to not pursue cases. None of this means legality. Also choosing to not pursue a crime but later deciding to is nit entrapment. If done maliciously it could be considered selective prosecution. But you will note cops can allow tens or hundreds of speeders go buy but then pull you over. Try telling the judge ‘but others got away with it. They did not even get pulled over.’ Try and see how that flys. You also are forgetting the players near Ft Worth who were cited but later dropped. None of this means poker in TX is legal or not. Certainly none means players will be charged and convicted. Then again none means they can’t and won’t be. The poker situation in TX is unsettled but sometime in the future I expect it will be settled

Hi all, does anyone know if either Choctaw or Winstar (or both) offers PLO? From what I've read, it seems like Poker Atlas is the definitive source for which casinos spread which games, but it's been a long time since I've played live so was hoping someone on 2p2 could confirm for me. Also, if anyone has played low-level PLO at either Choctaw/Winstar, how did the game play? Or should I just check out Texas Card House? I've never been so a little apprehensive about how it works.
I don't ever check them anymore so don't have any idea what they're spreading nowadays, but Winstar and Choctaw are both on Bravo instead of Poker Atlas if you want to keep an eye on them.

Since both are on Bravo, why not just check there. PA generally sucks for the games "played" on rooms that don't use PA. Definitely the definitive source for games at these two casinos is Bravo as you can actually see for yourself.

Gotcha, thanks. I've been out of the game so long I hadn't even heard of Bravo. Appreciate it.
If you do go the TCH route, I've heard the 2/2 at Social is a little more tame than the 1/2 at Dallas. I haven't played in either though, so can't say from experience. For anything bigger you'll definitely have to go to TCH Social.

Awesome, that's good to know. Thanks!
$50 buyin. $35 goes to prize pool. $100 add on. 28 entries. 13 addons. I'm pretty sure that's $2,280 unless my phone calculator is broken. Total prize pool paid out in tournament at 5220 Social? $2,000, which was the guarantee. The extra $280? Who knows? Gotta love poker without a governing body. In this situation, I would think they would mainly be after the owner of the club, and not the patrons. I am more concerned about attempted robberies than legal enforcement. They operate in a legal gray area that seems to be getting more white and white everyday. I would say go check out TCH Social in Las Colinas and when you step in, it should eliminate all of your worries.

Getting more white? We actually have someone found guilty and being penalized for this. So at least in that jurisdiction, in that implementation, we know the gray is now black. Can you point to a jurisdiction where all the implementations have been found legal. Choosing not to prosecute does not make the activity legal. So far the state remains mum but even if the AG put out his opinion that it is legal, that only impacts the state prosecution. Neither prosecutors nor defending lawyers can determine legality. That remains with the courts, probably appeals courts at least but possibly state Supreme Court. So far the only court ruling decided and not under appeal is the one where operator was held guilty. Will they charge and prosecute participants? Probably not but they might arrest and cite them. That would certainly chill some folks from playing. Definitely a powerful dissuading tool. Another is to start arresting and charging dealers. That would quickly dry up the good dealers who have any desire to deal in regulated states. There is zero doubt that some facilities are clearly in violation of the state law. I know very little about many markets, but I do know most to nearly all rooms in Houston are openly raking pots. Do you consider that a grey area? How about the rooms dealing house games? I don’t see any ultimate clarity on legality but I do expect eventually there will be a trigger event that forces TX to address this.

This event already happened (in Houston) with the very first room that was doing well that was raided, although it was alleged that they reported a significant income that looked a bit fishy. Then an influx of rooms opened after it was "dismissed" and handed over to the feds. The trigger event may look different in Dallas/Ft. Worth area vs. Houston. If the reported income amounts don't look like laundering, I don't see Houston slowing down anytime soon. I know less about North Texas.

There is evidence that event was a shill event. The parties involved knew of the conflicts and effectively staged an event they know could not be finished. Also that particular room was at that time probably operating in the gray area. They were not raking pots. The subsequent influx, is exactly what lead to a bunch of zombie rooms in Houston. Nearly all of the rooms, including most of these zombies, have wandered well out of the gray area and deeply into clearly illegal. Raking actual pot, jp and bonus rake from pot, house advantage games, documented instances of money laundering (that one is isolated), etc. The real crackdown likely won’t be in Houston/Harris county, it will be in one of the farther out suburbs. Though if the robberies and shootings continue that might be a trigger. The rooms that are operating in the gray area may survive or could get drug down by 5hose choosing to operate illegally. Houston has not shown any interest in controlling the rooms but if a trigger even happens, all bets are off.

No, it doesn't. It counts for something, though. TCH Dallas is going on 4 years of operation, and it's not like it's some underground club that only advertises by word of mouth.

All it really means is that the authorities in that jurisdiction have not chosen arrest/prosecute. It says nothing about legality. Being in the open says even less How many times have you sped past a cop? I can see drug sales happening if I wanted. They do it out in the open. Even better what about prostitution? Happens out in the open, oft3n in front of police in some places. Doesn’t have any bearing on legality when some authority for some reason decides to now make it a priority Now I don’t expect any of major jurisdictions where poker is now to suddenly decide to prosecute unless something happens. The shootings and robberies associated with it might have came close in Houston. The wrong persons getting shot or robbed could be a trigger. Another possibility is if a region, like maybe east TX, gets a decision in a state court, particularly if appealed and upheld. Then places on the fence would h@ve more surety in the status. Thus making such prosecution cheaper and easier for them

The difference is, speeding, drug-dealing, and prostitution are definitely, unambiguously illegal. These poker rooms are not. There's also a significance difference between a dealer or a hooker saying "eff it" and doing their thing out in the open and a business going through all of the bureaucratic and logistical hurdles to get to the point of being able to open in a strip mall with a sign that basically says "play poker here." Maybe cops and the DAs ignore hookers on the street, but if a brothel opened up in an Irving strip mall with the same amount with the same amount of transparency and visibility as TCH Social does, I promise you, the cops and DA would care, and put the kibbosh on it real quick. And we would all be stunned at the stupidity of the owners. None of this means these poker rooms are guaranteed never to be shut down by the authorities, we've seen it before. But this conversation started because someone was asking about their friend who wanted to play poker at these places but was reluctant to because of potential legalities, and I'm surprised how many people are saying, in essence, "he should be afraid, and who knows, maybe they'll even start charging individual players like your friend lol" Maybe you're right about the lack of a trigger event, but the longer a poker room stays open, the more it is likely, even if never 100% assured, that authorities have decided what they are doing is legal, and less likely they just have not decided to prosecute at this point.

The AG doesn’t rule on legality. That is for the courts. AG can express opinion. He can choose to not pursue cases. None of this means legality. Also choosing to not pursue a crime but l... Judges are god in the legal world but DAs are the St. Peter/bouncers for criminal issues and the fall in line with the state AG almost always. I really don’t think this was a reason to recreate a is Texas poker legal discussion it was a question on how much a players risk is in playing which is an opinion of course and tied to legality but not exactly the same thing. Honestly I haven’t even heard of home games where a player actually had a charge that wasn’t dropped in Texas most laws/prosecutions are targeted at running a gambling establishment but I’m not familiar with the state laws to that extent tbh just what I’ve heard happen to people. I have heard of people getting robbed and even cheated so that’s why I said it’s a little weird to worry about legality over safety but to each their own I guess.

Actually the question that started this discussion or at least my involvement was exactly to ans specifically about the legality. Here was the exact question, “What would you say to somebody who is genuinely interested in playing at TCH or any of the other DFW-area cardhouses but is "paranoid" about the legality of it?” Though I agree safety would be a bigger issue to me. But that is a bigger concern in Houston than DFW based on history. I also suspect a safety issue could be the trigger that causes a DA to decide go after a room.
Looks like Poker House is winning the Battle of Burleson. The only one with consistency cash games and biggest tournament turnouts. DD has the On tilt boys promoting the club so 5220 is being left in the lurch running single table tournaments most nights with low payouts. Will all three survive much longer? Poker House Austin they lost, sold off Poker House at Peaks Dallas I believe, and the Burleson location I thought attracted mostly low buyin freeroll hunters since it's next to a Walmart?

If you do go the TCH route, I've heard the 2/2 at Social is a little more tame than the 1/2 at Dallas. I haven't played in either though, so can't say from experience. For anything bigger you'll definitely have to go to TCH Social.
It absolutely is, the 1/2 plo is a much better game and is likely comparable to the 2/5 plo at social that will also have better players on average.

1/3 is max 500 in TCH Dallas. In Las Colinas 1/2 is max 300. Las Colinas has many 2/5 tables and they are max 1500. TCH Dallas maybe has 1 table or none max 1000 or match the stack Las Colinas is a newer and more beautiful place. They serve food.

The 1/2 plo in Dallas is better than the 2/5 plo at LC most the time, and the same can be said about the 1/2NL even more so. Dallas also has free beer, and byob. The food to me at LC is very overrated/overpriced in my opinion. All that being said I mainly play 2/5 so at LC when I'm there.
Wondering if anyone would share some info with me about TCH Social? Current hourly is $13? Day passes- currently $10? Any idea when they start? Can I roll in at 130am play a little and come back and play later in the day? Rake- do they rake the pot at all? For promotions or anything? Comps- any hourly rake back? Safety- could I/ would you walk across the street to the Bennyhana? During the day? At night? With your roll in your pocket?

I've been keeping an eye on them on Poker Atlas. They seem to be drawing decent crowds.
Looks like Westlake is split and part Denton part Tarrant county. I assume the poker room is in the Denton part, lol. I wonder how Denton Co. feels about the legality of this place. Are there any other legal rooms in Denton Co? I don't know of any.

Investors pulled funding so closed abruptly. Some people had bought a lot of time on deals and were pissed. People that ran it moved quickly to Austin. Hayden Fortini now works at the Lodge so you can ask him. I’m assuming his wife Kim Stone is now playing there as well.

Members were not reimbursed. Place closed abruptly. Hayden and Kim didn’t steal anything though. Whatever money came in was lost as the place was losing money. Investors all of the sudden said they weren’t going to fund it anymore and it closed suddenly. Two of the main investors are a husband and wife team that play tourneys all over the DFW area(Jim and Dori). They probably had unrealistic expectations based on Hayden/Kims salesmanship in getting them involved and quickly started losing their investment and pulled the plug on funding the place. Hayden and Kim have no $ so had no way to keep it open.

I don't think so, that's not supposed to get bad until tomorrow afternoon, I think. And looking at the temp predictions it's probably going to be a whole lot of ado over nothing.

There's nothing of note on either their website or when searching news links for TCH Las Colinas. I'm also pretty sure if there was a raid or even a shutdown it would have already been on Reddit.
Their facebook page says they were going to open at noon. No clue why. They're up now, but only 4 tables running. Pretty strange.
This is a warning to anyone looking to play any of the bigger games at TCH. I have now both worked and played in TCH Social in Las Colinas. I believe there's a few regulars in both the NLH and PLO games at the stakes of 5/10 and above that are colluding/ cheating the games. I have been around the poker world for the past 25 years and I see more shady things from players in this room than I have anywhere else. They are signaling each other in hands and texting each other about the other players in the game. I don't know this part to be true but I would assume they are chopping up their variance in the games outside of the room. These are the guys that are there almost every day and sit in the same seats. If you decide to play in any of the bigger games at TCH, make sure to keep an eye out. There's no gaming commission and the rooms not technically legal, so there's no "Eye in the Sky" Watching them at all times. But if you have been around poker long enough you will notice that things are a bit off in these games

Make it will known who these players are to management and all the other regulars in the room. You have to make it an issue to where the room would rather just ban these ppl than deal with any lingering rumors that might scare newcomers off. Keeping quiet to yourself won’t help anyone.
A review of Las Colinas: I flew down to Dallas in late January after deciding that Las Colinas seemed like a good place for a winter poker vacation where one can manage without a car or even Uber/Lyft. Some observations below from playing mostly late morning through early evening. The Neighborhood: The cardroom is located in a somewhat upscale suburban strip mall containing a number of eateries, and within a half-mile radius there are other similar strip malls with more eateries as well as a Whole Foods. It felt very safe either daytime or after dark. I stayed at the Hyatt House directly across the street from the cardroom parking lot, which involved crossing six lanes of divided roadway or walking a few hundred feet out of the way in order to cross at a light. I generally took the shorter route. The Cardroom: Felt fairly upscale, especially with a bar and seating area near the entrance. The staff were generally friendly and professional. There were plenty of TVs with sports playing, and the tables/chairs were comfortable enough. I was a little surprised that both time charges as well as food/drink orders from a server necessitated paying in advance, but maybe they were burned too often in the past when extending even the briefest of periods of credit. Food and drink were decent and reasonably priced. The Players: Typical cardroom personalities found in any room anywhere. I did appreciate that despite it being shortly after Inauguration, I barely heard any politics talk, and I never say anyone wearing any political hats/clothing. Most of the differences I noticed between this room and non-TX cardrooms seemed to revolve directly or indirectly around rake vs. time-charge. For example, in casinos it’s not unusual for someone to sit down at 1-2/1-3 with $100 or so, play until they bust while gambling/shoving when they hit the board, even when against a strong preflop raiser. However, since the cardroom is simply a poker destination and people have to pay time in advance, I saw few of these gambling short-stackers. Consequently, while the “good” and the “average” players seemed commensurate to what one would find in any mid-day, low limit game anywhere, the worst players seem less terrible than what I’ve seen in the other casinos/cardrooms I’ve played at in the past year. Since it is a time charge room, they allow DBL bomb pots, but only NL rather than Omaha (!?). I found these bomb pots to be a huge time-suck, seemingly taking up to 10 minutes to play if the pot gets big. In addition, as an older adult who plays raise-or-fold preflop and likes to take breaks after 90 minutes or so, the time charge felt no cheaper to me than paying rake. Finally, despite there being no rake, multiple times I saw the blinds chopping rather than playing(!?), which makes zero sense to me. Maybe a Texan can explain this one to me. Overall, I had a good time during my 5 days there, although it wasn’t special enough to plan a return trip unless I’m going to pair it with seeing a major league sporting event.

Wow. That didn't take long. Hope all the employees land on their feet. Damn. It was in Denton County, but Tarrant County Sherriffs raided it. How does that work, I wonder? Desperado better watch out. I wonder how many dealers will go back to The Fort, lol?
When did Las Colinas switch from PLO to NL bomb pots? ThatÂ’s lame. Does the other location still have PLO bomb pots? People chop the blinds because nobody actually plays in the blinds and it usually just goes check check check and someone wins $10. Waste of time.
I haven't been to the TCH locations in quite a while, but I thought they were always NL bomb pots, at least on dealer changes. Or are you talking about the bomb pot only tables?

Cardshark04, I played at TCH (Las Colinas) the past four days and in the games I sat in (2-2, 2-5, & 5-10 all PLO) the bomb pots were PLO. This may not be the case for NL games, but for PLO they are. Racetrack

From my research it looks like everything under 5/10 has capped buyins, and are limited to a single UTG straddle. I've heard the 2/5 PLO games are infested with Euros, any idea on the 2/2 PLO?
There is some, but if you take nlh to plo, I would say 80% of them are playing nlh.

I've heard private-ish games like this should be avoided due to higher possibilities of being ripped off, conspired against, cheated, or worse. Does anyone have any experience going to one of these, without knowing somebody? How did it go, if so? Obviously I want to avoid bad situations, but on the other hand, if they are legit and the fear around them is overblown, I'd like to consider them.

It's dumb, I know, I just really enjoy having fktons of options. I like dabbling in every little online room that accepts Americans. I like when Saturdays in fall have a college football game on NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, CBSSN, FS1, FS2, TNT, and a dozen on ESPN+ simultaneously. I will say I have only been to a couple of these in the past, but a standard barometer for rake seems to be 25 dollars, hopefully it's not that high at 1 2. Most the time they aren't worth it. I have not been to the one listed, but there are a bunch of them that are sort of linked together, just having their own days. From what I have seen, absolutely zero element of cheating, but not a huge sample size. The biggest thing with such huge rake people aren't playing deep enough, their intention is to make it like a party vibe. One of the games I went to they literally I believe had house players (not cheating just filling seats min buying) and literally 4 hours in one guy was up 200 and the rest of the table was getting killed.

There was a bit of a hiccup on the trip. I had called ahead to TCH Las Colinas and was told to vlog I'd just have to inform a floor and they'd go over the rules for filming. But when I arrived, the floor told me I had to email their GM for approval first. So on my first day I wasn't able to vlog, which sucked cause it was the only winning session of my trip, with a +$800 uptick. Fortunately the GM got back to me the next morning so I was able to start vlogging for Days 2 and 3. On Day 1 I played the 2/5 PLO and found there were some loosey-goosey eating-a-sandwich types willing to stack off light. Lots of players sitting with 2-3k+ as well so plenty of action. On Days 2 and 3 I tried out the 2/2 PLO as well as the $10 double-board bomb-pot only games. Overall these were a lot more reserved/tighter. There were spots in all the games played, but not as many as I had hoped for. the room was popping constantly with lots of tables and action going, so plenty of traffic. It'll probably be a few weeks before I get to the footage from this trip to edit and upload.
hey ya know they just opened a poker club called 52 pickup social in Caddo Mills, Tx. It’s on poker atlas to see all the tourneys.
Hi guys - Can anyone recommend some good places to stay at near Las Colinas on Air BB? I'd prefer a condo walking distance with 24 hour gym and pool, similar to the setup at the Meridian in Vegas if possible. or if that's not available, something I can get an Uber to that's close by in a nice area! is the area outside walkable / safe? I have not idea I've never been to Texas other than driving through the interstate area. Do the have lock boxes there for chips? I'm excited to check it out. Also this is random, any good fishing spots nearby where i can bass fish in a stocked pond. Similarly to the stocked pond at the card room actually, but in this case I wanted to do some actual bass fishing that's easy.
PLENTY of good TX Large mouth fishing around there but 1) nothing I know of stocked, 2) you are gonna need a boat to do the lakes any justice, 3) these fish will be tougher than those on the table, 4) this isn't really the season, you are gonna fish deep probably (find the thermocline)

I was going to comment on the heat and walking, but April and May have pretty perfect weather. The Las Colinas area is plenty safe, you'll be fine walking around there. Obviously the middle of the night might not be ideal, just like anywhere.

Hi guys - Can anyone recommend some good places to stay at near Las Colinas on Air BB?
I stayed at Sonesta ES Suites Dallas-Las Colinas which was about a mile away, but I don't know if it'd be walkable given the major roads in the area. Looking at Google Maps there's a Hyatt House Dallas/Las Colinas and an Embassy Suites by Hilton Irving Las Colinas that look closer, but again, not sure if walkable as I've only visited the area once.
LC is very safe, the Dallas TCH can feel a bit shadier due to the area, but as long as your not out there screaming and flashing money, you should feel safe there. Anyways LC, yea walk all you want in that area.
I like to sometimes make pitstops in Dallas to play, and usually stay in one of the hotels across the highway from Texas Social in Las Colinas, but you definitely feel like kind of a hobo walking the bridge over the highway as there's no sidewalk and you have to walk on the grass/shoulder. Lol Texas. The area is fine though. There's a Whole Foods within walking distance as well. The Sichuan Chinese restaurant in the same shopping center as the card room is pretty good too.

A review of Las Colinas:I flew down to Dallas in late January after deciding that Las Colinas seemed like a good place for a winter poker vacation where one can manage without a car or even Uber/Lyft. Some observations below from playing mostly late morning through early evening. The Neighborhood: The cardroom is located in a somewhat upscale suburban strip mall containing a n... See full post
For TCH Los Colinas I came out here to play 5/10/25, but I realized that this game has a 50 dollar straddle. it's not "mandatory" but everybody is doing it, and I asked if I needed to put out 50 they said I did. I feel like if I play I will be obligated to do it even though I don't like it. I need a 10/25 game. The next limit under this 5/10/25/50 is 2/5, and I already booked my accomodations for 2 months, and it's not refundable. The 2/5 isn't big enough to cover my budgets, even though it runs with a straddle pretty often and it's a 2/5/10 a lot of the time, 2/5 won't always run with a straddle, it's only some of the time. Even if was 2/5/10 it's still not big enough for me to play to cover my budgets. I really need 5/10/25 game. They somewhat recently ended the 5/10 game and turned it into a 5/10/25 game. Actually the 5/10 game there would have worked out pretty well because it was running with a straddle pretty frequently from what i was told. But they removed it because they are counting on a 5/10/25 that the 25 is mandatory, but not the 50. But why am I feeling like I have to do the 50 to sit in there and play? 5/10/25/50 would put my bankroll at risk. I'm gonna play 2/5 for a few days while I marinade on this.

If it's not mandatory, you don't have to put it out. The grinders will give you **** about it, but **** them, you do you. There's a reason an optional straddle is called optional. Don't let the misregs ruin your session or kill your light.
In the meantime, start a list for the game you want. You're probably not the only one thinking like this.

You must have massive living expenses if playing 2/5/10 with a $2k buy in is too small to cover your budget. Also pretty crazy to have those kinds of living expenses without being able to afford to play 25/50
If you expect there always to be great opportunities that exactly fit your bankroll/expectations then I think your level of entitlement is going to constantly leave you disappointed in life. The 2-5-10 game is really good and plays bigger then many 5-10-25s I've played a lot of the times idk why you're being so rigged about this. I had to shot take from 5-5-10 to 100-100 ffs live is not like online. People play what they want and there's often big gaps in stakes available for midstakes

I'm leaving. I don't see how a game goes as advertised a 5/10 to a 25/50. I feel like it's a bit of scam by the pros there but I don't want to deal with it so I would rather find a different place to play at. They know if they put on the board that it's a 10/25/50 they won't get enough players, so they pull this scam to call it a 5/10/25 and then oh by the way, we all straddling. They should bring the 5/10 game back IMO. That will naturally turn into a 5 10 25. Aside from that I had a good experience there.

I'm not disagreeing with you. I'll just add that there is a big difference between a 2/5 game that 1/2 the time runs with a straddle (buy-in 300 to 2k) , and a 5 5 10 20 game that runs with a straddle 90% of time with a 400 to 2K buyin, and a the last structure, 5/10/25/50 with an uncapped buyin. I'm sure if we ran math on those the bankroll would be highest on the last game. Note: Calculations below are the total Dollars paid per round: a. Actually, 5 10 25 50 = 90 - This turns out to be a 30/60 PLO game with a min buy in of 1K, uncapped max b. 5 5 10 20 = 40 = 13.333/26.66 c. 5 10 25 = 40 = 13.333 / 26.666 = d. 2 5 = 7 e. 2 5 10 = 17 per round - 5.66 / 11.33 - lightly higher than 5 10 when it runs with the straddle f. 5/10 = 15 per round Also the bigger game would be most likely the toughest game, so you would in theory need more buy-ins to play in a tougher game for your bankroll because your win rate would be lower. A tough 30/60 PLO game would probably need at least 50 buy-ins. 300K and more than that for backup; about 500K would be a good bankroll for that game most likely. For the 5/5/10/20 or 5/10/25, 50K would get you started pretty nicely. You would need back up for that just i case but I doubt you would need to go deeper than 50K if you're a very good player and the game was really good. You could drop down to 5/10 if you dropped to 30k range For 5/10 I would suggest 30K with backup available in case you hit a big downswing. For the 2/5, I would still want at least 20 to 30K 30K min with 20K backup. Anybody who's pro, I suggest 50K, and 30K min of that for your bankroll, and 20K min for your living costs, or 30K bankroll, and at least 6 months living expenses. Thanks!

It’s PLO man…probably 35%+ of the 1/2 or 2/2plo games spread around the country are basically 1/2/10 games. It’s just the nature of PLO that the game quite often plays bigger than advertised. This shouldn’t really be shocking to you if you’re playing the stakes you’re playing. Also I’m sure it’s worked in your favor where you got into some juicy “lower stakes” games that were playing massive that you were BR’d for

Yep. I'm not planning to be the guy at the table who doesn't want to put the straddle out there. I'm going to pull up stakes and go somewhere else 😀 Even though I had a 3-thousand-dollar nonrefundable Air BB I just cancelled, and I get nothing back for that. Just so everyone is aware: At TCH Las Colinas, the 5/10/25 usually runs with a straddle, as I posted earlier. It's a 5/10/25/50 game, not a 5/10/25 game. There is no 5/10 game anymore. It's now a 5/10/25/50 game. Cheers!

Yeah it's unfortunate. I can recommend the 2/5 game at Los Colinas. Weather is great today! Just to reiterate about las Colinas PLO game formerly 5/10 currently listed as 5/10/25 but actually a 5/10/25/50 game. Anything over the 2/5 PLO is gonna be the equivalent of a 30/60 PLO game. There is possibly a team of pro scammers there, trying to pressure up a bigger game than advertised. Successfully so apparently. The 2/5 was chill, sometimes straddles. There were some European guys there who seemed to be kind of pushing the straddle. The difference between the local rec players and the pros is that the rec players will put out a straddle and not complain. if a typical Euro or some other pros also does it, you can be Sure they getting ready to ask every body else to put one out also. If you're prepared for that dynamic, it's helpful to possibly know in advance. haha 😀. Just reporting. I'm trying to help out possible 2 = 2 's that might be considering checking it out. Also, food was pretty good and very well priced for me. And the staff / dealers / players was friendly. Hyatt house across street has a full kitchen / refigerator / Stove / full 1 bedroom apartment (not super nice but it's big and has a full kitchen even a dishwasher and it was cheap) - 5 minute walk. If you see the Starbucks across the street in a small shopping center, just walk down the shopping center and it's there. I think for 2/5 this is a great place.

Which will be true til some people go bust and some whales stop showing up then it will be back to 5/10/25 no “mandatory” 50. I’ve seen this show before and that’s how it always goes
In Austin I've seen the 1/2/5 game hit a $320 straddle before, and stacks that were 20-30k deep. The room operators and grinders slit their own throats by allowing these games to play so big, as the fun recs get demolished and stop coming

The whole table agrees to do that or just a few players doing it on their own? If everybody has to do it, it's just bumping up the stake of the game. There's nothing action about that from my point of view.
I'm one of the players who wants to play PLO sometimes and I'm okay with a single straddle. But once it goes to multiple straddles, I'm out. But that seems crazy to cancel a 3k Airbnb when you could easily grind lower stakes PLO for 10k+ a month and meanwhile do random fun stuff around the DFW area. Makes no sense to me.
I don't get why your leaving, the 2 5 plays bigger than most places. I've seen 10k stacks at 1-2 plo in Dallas MTS (not that uncommon). I get it no exact limits you like, but games play big there.

There will be certain individuals in these games who are constantly pressuring and harassing others to put the straddle on. Now, the straddle getting to $320 is a VERY rare occurence, as are 20-30K stacks, but I HAVE seen it. But there are typically plenty of times that the 1/2/5 is a 1/2/5/10/20 and sometimes 40/80 It's unlimited straddles from UTG to the button AND match the stack. I've tried explaining to the rooms out here how bad it is to allow the entry-level games to play so much bigger. There's no way newcomers to PLO can sit without getting wrecked too quickly. So the fish dry up and we're left with tons of Euros and Aussies with no social skills who are very strong opponents infesting the games instead. Deeper buyins, straddles, match the stack, all extra edges for the pros. They're never happy, they always have to try to push for additional things to help them scoop up money more quickly, and the room operators aren't smart enough to realize what's best for their own business model long-term, they side with the vocal grinder crowd and allow the fun recs to go broke and never return.
Is anyone else having trouble with Poker Atlas? I've tried deleting and reloading the app. Tried creating a new account. Tried the website and it showed all the Vegas rooms, but when I tried to switch to Texas it broke, lol. First they took our porn, are they taking our poker sign up now?!

Don’t normally use but fired PA up and it isn’t loading. Might be fro AWS issue today. Lots of cloud stuff not quite right yet.
That's what I'm thinking now. I hadn't heard of the AWS issue until after I'd posted that. Thanks for checking for me.
Out in Austin and just helped get 2 known cheats banned that I helped get banned in Tampa FL about 5 years ago. They've been caught all over the country marking cards and they typically focus on PLO games to my understanding. In this video I break down the history I'm aware of, provide receipts so it's not just me making up some allegations, provide the photos I have of them (one is good, one is not) and detail exactly how they're marking cards so room operators can be on the lookout and players can protect themselves. They've been getting away with this for at least 6 years in different venues, and I'd like to make it as difficult as possible for them to find new honey holes to take advantage of. So if you're able to help my video with engagement (likes/comments) or sharing it, it would help immensely in getting this spread far and wide to keep these scumbags off the felt. Broken YouTube Link
Nice
Oak Cliff Card Club was pushing a tournament in November on their socials that was their "last chance" tournament before they "moved." They haven't updated their socials since then, or their website in even longer. I assume any move has probably fallen through, and they're just done? Anyone have any info?

If I had someone there to help me out I might do it. If there are 2 or 3 people that don't want to straddle at the table or venue, then it's much more manageable than if I'm the only one. I didn't get much positive feedback when I refused to straddle in the past. And a lot of recs got upset about it also. I mostly don't want to upset the recreational players. Because the pressure is that strong, I suggest if you want to play and not straddle, have some back up. Unless you're very comfortable not being liked.

Well said. Unfortunately when rooms solicit feedback, it's the grinders who tend to be the ones giving it. And they'll slit their own throats pushing for all the game edges to be in their favor, not realizing their short-term focus hurts their long-term returns.
Anyone tried the new club in Stephenville?
Looking around poker atlas it looks like the typical 1/3 $1000 max games I used to frequent have been replaced with 2/2 $400. Looks like 1/3 still runs, but the interest seems to have shifted? Is this an economy thing or has there been an effort to keep pros/grinders away with these lower buy in limits? Appears most are still 75% max so Im sure they can still get pretty big.
That I30 road construction has been hard on the fort. I'm 10 minutes away but prefer to drive a little extra for the game selection at Palace.

Im coming from Stephenville and plan on checking out palace soon. I have noticed a few fort regulars on the palace stream. Im an hour or an hour and half from everything now. Been itching to get back to playing. Been watching atlas to get a feel for whats running. Burleson doesnt seem to be an option. Stephenville has a room now but seems inconsistent. Brownwood has a room now and looks like they get a couple of tables on the weekends. Atmosphere at the fort is great imo. Im rusty tho and dont mind the smaller buy ins right now
Have you lived in Stephenville your whole life? I have a lot of family from there going way back. Grandad's in the Stephenville sports HoF, lol.

No, came up here 6 years ago for work. Lived between Lipan and Brock so it made the Fort pretty convenient. Following Stephenville sports, tho. Definitely some history here and looks like Tarleton is on the way up in everything.
