Just witnessed a fun “is poker a game for gentlemen?” dilemma: $1-$2 game. Two short-stacks who are down big say they are gonna bet $100 blind preflop and check it down. They ask if anyone else wants to do it. I agree. But on the next hand, UTG—who didn’t agree—limps in for $2. Me and the other two guys say “that’s not right, we need the rest of the table to agree to let us do it” so it plays as a normal hand. UTG apologized and says he won’t interfere. Ok. So as the dealer starts shuffling me and the other two guys announce to the table “ok we are doing our blind $100 flip here everyone.” Next hand, sure enough, first guy bets $100 without looking, I call $100 without looking, and the third guy goes all-in for $100 without looking. Everyone else has folded without looking. But it gets to the SB and he is agonizing. “I wish I hadn’t looked!” Eventually reveals he has KK. If that’s you, what are you doing?

If you're gonna do it at a public game where people have to post the blinds you can't really complain. That said, if I had agreed to fold I wouldn't bother looking.

Boygenius "Cool About It" has been on the radio nonstop in Colorado for the past 3 months but I haven't listened to the rest of the album. Seems like a competent riff on the hook from The Boxer to me.

It would not be me, because I would have not agreed. However, if I did agreed I would fold kings. That’s not a “poker lie”, that’s a meta-lie, making it very very wrong. Me personally I let the boys gamble, and don’t agree to their antics, but usually I just end up folding because I consider it a blind shove, so looking for 99+.

No, sir. 5 years older than me too. I know for a fact trees do not bend when you hit them. I nailed one on my dirt bike in a race going 25-30 mph. To this day I wonder how fast or whatever someone is going in such a tight space to get killed skiing/snowboarding. When I ride trees I slow way the hell down and am also mindful of not crushing my head into one.

Notwithstanding the fact that I’m guessing some people do indeed go way too fast through trees, my guess is that a lot of the fatalities/serious head injuries are just people getting unlucky in terms of location they got hit and the angle the contact happened at I’ve had two serious concussions from my rugby career and a few other less serious ones but by far the two hardest pieces of contact I took (one of them a full on running punt to the head by a lunatic) didn’t result in concussions or any obvious lasting damage Squid’s the concussion/head trauma expert (not a title anyone should want), so he’ll have a far better perspective

Trees are low tide right now, and there are plenty of widowmakers hiding just below the surface. Fairly easy to go a reasonable speed, hit a log, and get tossed. It's also easy to ski the tree line of a trail and get tossed in. I've knocked a few in my day. Banged one in the shoulder hard enough to knock the wind out of me in Union Meadows at Copper. I hit a log across the trail in Eagle Wind at Winter Park that sent me feet over head. Knocked my GoPro off and dented my helmet. I now traverse more in the trees rather than always riding the fall line because it's easier to control speed. Which means I'm mostly worried about tree wells.

Im good at gambool. Im moar good at action sports. I have spent my life pursuing that perfect adrenaline buzz while trying to manage risk appropriately. Dunning Krueger is very real in all of the sports I partake in. Most overestimate their skillset and that can really bite u. I was exteremely lucky to make it through my 20s hanggliding. I made an absolute ton of bad choices. Over the years I have had countless pals die or get mangled. One of my dear buddies got really fuct up landing short on a massive gap jump. He literally was one of the best skiers in tahoe (which at the time was the epicenter for extreme stuff). They say he got unlucky, but did he? When u r doing something with high consequence and you have a 95% success rate it doesnt take doing that thing a ton of times before you are likely to eventually hit that 5 percenter and get fuct.

I have been invited for a second round of interviews—this one is in person. My poker-playing days may soon be over! QUESTION: should I mention poker in my interview? They’re gonna ask what I’ve been doing these last six months—is answering “working 20 hours a week at a Doggy Day Care” worse than saying I’m also a poker player? I don’t know. I think I’ll randomize and only mention poker if I’m interviewing with a man—IOW, it’ll be an extremely low frequency play (cuz we all know HR staffs are dominated by women).

Probably more downside than upside to mentioning poker. The fact that you have the dog stuff to mention while omitting poker means you wouldn’t be completely fibbing. You can also say you’ve been spending time watching online trainings and / or reading up to gain knowledge in areas that are at least somewhat relevant and valuable to the job you’re applying for. Go with your gut though.

Mentioning poker in a job interview is all downside and extremely limited upside. It's way more likely that someone doesn't think a gambler is an appropriate hire than that you run into someone who has anything more than a casual interest in poker.

Yea, I'm never disclosing that I'm a poker player. There is almost zero upside as I can't imagine that being the deciding factor between me and another candidate. Considering most poker players are losers anyway, I'm just going to assume they inflate their skill. In other news, just had the sketchiest descent down from the i70 tunnel into Silverthorne. Traffic is going 8mph down the hill. I have studded snow tires and still slid completely into the other lane. Happened a couple more times, but not as bad. Installed a new faucet in the master bathroom sink last night. As usual for such processes, the install was a snap, but getting the old fixtures out was a nightmare. Aside from the usual frozen nuts that you can't reach and which don't have enough room to turn a wrench once you finally get it on there, there was also the drain-pipe that couldn't be removed because it didn't fit out of the hole in the sink in either direction. It's probably OK to mention a hobby of "playing cards with friends, sometimes Texas Hold 'Em" and see how they react. Most likely they will go just "OK cool" and be like "great he has friends" instead of going down a rabbit hole. IMO most interviewers like to learn a bit about a person outside of work too. This is an innocuous way to drop a hint, and in the off chance they share the interest they will ask a follow-up.

oh man, i would definitely be vagabond tenting - would be riding like el diesel 😀 i would take a big pannier of a tent, and another pannier of clothes and then a briefcase a la fear and loathing in las vegas

those rides i did in europe were super dooper casual (my dad did it both times) so was mostly morning rides with a long lunch break followed up by a few hours in the afternoon and then just find a place we liked to spend the evening at and stay there average day probably around 75 miles with a low of 40ish and high of perhaps 120 without my dad, doing it as more of a "race" without winesoaked 3 hour euro lunches mixed in, I could probably manage the 175-200 miles however, i am definitely the kind of person who would see "world's largest candle" and decide to stop as well as stop briefly to take a bunch of photos of picturesque places - or see a diner that says "world's greatest pickles" and figure, you know what, let's see if they are correct no joke, would consider bringing along a go pro and vlogging it (but obviously editing/posting only once it was done)

Demo Stockli Stormriders 95 underfoot. I wanted to do the 188.... but had to settle for 182. Thoroughly disappointed as I wanted to throw money out the window like I have my whole life.....

  1. Stable at speed. I can be comfortable at around 40-45MPH and I did not get to the top end... even on the 182L.
  2. Soft snow on groomers was outstanding. Light and responsive. Even OK in medium crusty bumps when I hit my spots. Three cons
  3. Expectation. Because of the reviews, I was expecting a quiet, dampened experience. On the soft stuff.... yes. Hard corduroy... not so much
  4. Didn't have great edges on the slick traverses.... even slipping down while on stance foot. Haven't had that for a while. Before you ask, I was the first person on these demos and the edges did feel/look sharp enuf.
  5. The biggie for me... and counter to reviews (maybe it's how I ski)..... but I twice went into a "powder field" (3-4" over crud) at the top of Frenchman and found the tail hooked so badly when generating into the next turn that I couldn't put together ANY sequence of links. Turn, recover, turn. I chickened out going up to (new area) Bergman in search of a powder stash or three because I was thinking I may pay a high price for not having the right (for me) ski. My wife got me a season demo rentals for XMas. I've only been on a few since November.... still recovering from ankle sprain and the snow this year blows. Found out yesterday that the along with the demo fleet, I have access to ANYTHING on the For Sale wall... if bindings are already mounted. No extra charge; two days only. Yeah me! Stormriders were the first off the wall.

Let’s get you on a snowboard. I’ll bring an extra up for you on Sunday. 😉

That's too bad, KS. Probably saved you $500, though There is a lot of camber in that ski and very minimal rocker in the tail. Not super surprised to hear the tail doesn't release like you wanted. I personally appreciate it when a ski releases and lets the skier control the skid. It lets me know the slash turn will be there when I need it. My next skis may very well be fully rockered pontoon boats.

Fair deal. I’ll take it. Really looking forward to this weekend. We were thinking of Beaver Creek one day, but Keystone is supposed to get nuked on just as much. Bergman Express here we come!

Utah is going off right now. Got super duper lucky with lifts opening and ropes dropping - got first trax on some stuff where that does not happen too often. Mid week pow days are the bees knees. The street poker chick just nixed the vegas biking weekend in favor of gnar shreddin so we prolly head down in a week or 2. Heal up fast JIDC season is just really starting

I've played a lot of bad players in my life but I think this one takes the cake. Old Vietnamese guy sits down for $800, the first hand he gets 82o in a bomb pot and stacks off on a 853cc flop. My nut flush draw and 2 overs couldn't get there. Whatever. He drags the $1800 pot and tips the dealer $500. Couple hands later, another bomb pot, he donk jams the turn with 64o on a KK27hhh board into 2 players. Next guy calls with AQhh for the nut flush, and I'm last to act with K7 for the nuts. Nice. Couple hands later he limps with 72o and calls an all-in, beating AKo. Every hand he's bending the cards like it's baccarat. I don't think he knows that you're allowed to fold.

Knowing that he literally doesn't have a fold button, I just overbet jammed KTo on KK99J. He called with 55.

He left after the 55 hand. Another old guy felt the need to tap the tank and asked him why he called with 5-high. SMH. People are idiots. Another guy at the table called a string bet on him on a different hand. Seriously. The worst player of all-time is at the table and you're trying to call him out on technicalities? All these **** regs have zero awareness and I'm glad they all suck at poker and have **** results long-term.

Funniest hand I saw over the Christmas break: I come back from a bathroom break and the river has been dealt. One guy has gone all-in and the other guy (a long time semi-reg) is standing up out of his seat looking at the board and bet. "Man, I'm pretty sure I have like 10 outs". I'm a little confused, look back at the table, and yup, all 5 cards have been dealt. Still, the guy is standing up and assessing the situation, and still muttering, "Yes, I'm almost certain all my outs are good. I have to call. I call." He slides in his chips, waits, and then seems a little taken aback when his opponent tables his hand. He looks back at the table, finally realizes his mistake, shakes his head, and tosses his cards into the muck. GplaysinaverytoughgameG

Keystone was epic today! 7” of fresh, plus everything untouched from the day before because they were shut down. Almost zero wind and we were heating up from digging Jr out every time the pow swallowed him. Lol. Could not have asked for a better day. Little guy became a man today with the way he rode. Absolutely on the rails getting it. Should be just as good tomorrow, the only decision we have is Keystone or Breck.
