Turning 0$ into WSOP trip

Hello my friends

As the title suggests, I‘ve made myself a challenge for the next 6 months to work out into WSOP 2016. To make it more interesting, I will start on Pokerstars with Zero in my account! Usually I don‘t set monetary goals but this time I want to visualize a framework & motivating structure to push even further.

Profit Reward Goal type

5k Trip to Las Vegas Minimum goal

5k – 7k Colossus Main goal

7k – 11k Million maker Main goal

11k – 15k Monster stack Main goal

15k – 30k Depending on schedule Extra goal

30k Main Event Utopia

Last year I won a package to Las Vegas which was my best Poker Trip for sure. As a cash game player, most of the time I had spent at MGM Casino playing cash and only played 1 Turbo event so in reality I didn‘t feel the spirit of WSOP. This year I want to sense more! As soon as (If) I reach my 5k milestone, I will buy a flight ticket to LV, and after every next milestone I will reward myself with a Tournament Ticket. Just in case I bink some Sunday Million, then I could buy a seat into Main event

So what‘s the plan?

I‘ve just noticed that I‘m 60 000 Strategy Points short of Reaching Black Member Status here. I‘ve read about some changes in Black Member system so I‘m not sure if there is any direct benefit in achieving it. However it would insist me on playing all year, hence that‘s my 2nd goal of 2016.

3rd goal – Visit 6 countries

Last year I have visited Poland, USA, Malta, Croatia & Czech Republic. Last 4 were all won packages while a visit to Poland was organized by Lithuanian Sports Poker Federation to compete against Polish team (We won btw ^^). This year I want to add one more destination, preferrably one which I have never been before. At this time I still have one package to Malta 11th March and I hope it‘s not the last one

4th goal – Shift my weight towards 85 kg

The unusual thing is that I want to gain, not lose At the moment of writing I only have 76,8 kg of myself So for every single month I would like to gain close to 1 kg. Still have no specific plan on how to do this, but I will work on it this month.

5th goal – Rewatch PokerStrategy Psychology videos

Probably my biggest advantage over the other players is my mental side of the game. Although I had no mental issues with poker and enjoyed my life most of the times before, my breakthrough was after I read Schnitzelfisch‘s guide about productivity

https://www.pokerstrategy.com/forum/thread.php?threadid=181760

Since then my days became more organized, I‘ve done more tasks than in the past and loved my life even more! I don‘t want to lose this edge so mental lessons will be my priority this year. Pitty that PokerStrategy don‘t produce new psychology videos ant at the moment there is about 30 h video material (hence about 1 hour studying per week for the year), so will have to look for additional material elsewhere as well.

6th goal – Read 12 books not related to poker

To be honest, books were abandoned by me over the last years. But Schnitzelfisch‘s guide restored me in the correct path and now I dedicate one hour to reading every single morning. I struggled to wake up early in the past, but now I get up at 6 a.m. with no much effort

7th goal – Set up a football team

Yap, my competitiveness in poker came from football. I‘ve played in Lithuanian League 1 in my final years of school, but I was neither Ronaldo nor Messi so decided to follow the paths of education. Now I still play in Sunday league but my passion was always about managing a club. Maybe this is the year to put my manager skills to the test?

I have couple more goals for 2016 in my PaperBook, but they are either too personal (like relationships with my girlfriend) or too difficult to judge on (like learning French). And I‘m sure to add more, at least monthly goals, as soon as I move from freeroll Zone

So goals are set, Green light turned on & ready to go!

Good Luck all in 2016!

Thanks guys for a positive feedback ♠_thumbsup:

So I'm looking at my account

And wonder, what is the best way to get out of Zero Zone? It looks like ongoing freerolls are only the sattelites for a weekly freeroll It might take a while until I get some cash. Does anybody know any secret tips on this?

Hey (Labass:f_thumbsup:)

Try the scratch cards at on PokerStars — you receive tickets to freerolls from those.

Good luck

1st satellite cleared. I've never tried Badugi before, so thanks to PokerStrategy for the Badugi primer in the Strategy section ♠_cool:

Are you set on staying with PokerStars, or thinking of joining a different room to collect some starting bankroll?

Yes, I want to concentrate here, as PokerStars offers a huge selection of tournaments. Winamax and Pokerstars.Fr don't count for PS points, so there aren't many MTT sites left to pick from.

Try the scratch cards at on PokerStars — you can earn tickets to freerolls from those.

Are they still active? I couldn't spot them anywhere. But there are a few daily challenges that could be useful ♠_thumbsup:

Thanks for advice Got a $1000 freeroll ticket on Saturday

Brick Brick Brick

To be honest, Pokerstars is not the best place to start from $0 Only 2 freerolls ($2k grtd on Saturday and Sunday) might leap You from the bottom, while others don't exceed 10$ prizepool with 10k participants. You have to win that to get something decent, around $2 ♠_biggrin:

However, not being able to grind as much as I wish, I have more hours to prepare my day-to-day tasks more accurate. Last week I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how my morning procedures should look like, which assignments should be prioritized and how to stick it, not leaving it just on the paper. So although my bankroll is still "resting", I don't feel as the week was only a waste of time

This is my tasks for the coming week:

  1. 2h Psychology Video

  2. 2h Theory Video

  3. 2h WSOP Main event video (These are my motivation boosters)

  4. Collect 2 Pokerstars freeroll Tickets for a weekend

  5. 4 hours on Poker material, like forums, Pokernews, articles, strategy discussions

  6. Participate in a Live event

  7. Earn 3 Final package satellite tickets at Ongame network (Although not related to this bankroll challenge, but still important to my schedule)

I wish to spend around 35-40 hours a week for all Poker related activities, and this plan looks to fit at least for this moment. How about You guys, how much time You dedicate to poker? I've read that some people sacrifice like 70 hours a week, what looks insane to me ♠_mad:

Ha, I can give a very ....unexpected answer!

I study and play poker during work and my boss doesn't know it. However, he is avoiding me and I am avoiding him. Weekly Review:

  1. 2h Psychology Video

  2. 2h Theory Video

  3. 2h WSOP Main event video Found only 1 spare hour, shame

  4. Collect 2 Pokerstars freeroll Tickets for a weekend

A very little progress. This week I will have only 1 chance for a 0,11$ MTT freezout, but who knows.. ♠_pleased:

  1. 4 hours on Poker material, like forums, Pokernews, articles, strategy discussions

  2. Participate in a Live event Participated but didn't cash. Busted 3way All-in pre, my AJA6. Flop KJ3, better luck next time

  3. Earn 3 Final package satellite tickets at Ongame network Satellite tickets earned and..

Because I already had a package for Malta, it counts for the next event which should take this May in Greece. Never been there, so it should be a great journey.

Conclusion - a good week both by work ethics & by the results. Having more $$ on PokerStars would be icing on the cake, but I know it's coming in short time ♠_cool:

Just breathing. 5-10 minutes first thing in the morning and then in between the sessions ( for another 5min) if I feel I need to refocus.

I actually read this article today on the influence music have while working here (http://www.businessinsider.com/10-minute-trick-to-boost-your-productivity-2016-1) it pretty much sums up how I feel about music while playing poker.

and yeah inspirational/nature stuff its complete bullshit imo.

Nice progress, keep on going

If i may suggest few things, you should check out Pokerstrategy article section about psychology (http://www.pokerstrategy.com/strategy/psychology/) a lot of great stuff to read.

Remember to take notes while watching videos and reading articles. Its proven to increase amount of information you will keep in your memory, comparing to just watching or reading.

Dont know what is your warm up routine before playing, but it can be very helpful to do your hh review before starting to see your mistakes from previous session and getting mentally ready for task ahead, that way you could increase hours spent reviewing hh as that is one of the most important parts of studying. If you have read Mental Game of Poker by Jared Tendler or watched one of his videos, he talks about 'inch worm', to get better overall is to not only learn new stuff to improve your A game, but also working on your C and D game usually by just watching your own play and your mistakes.

Maybe it helps you, gl.

Thank you for taking the time to write this lengthy comment, Rufus

You’re correct that taking notes is a very powerful tool that many poker players overlook. Personally, I keep a paper notebook and a Word document where I summarize articles and videos. Below is a short excerpt from the Psychology section of my virtual book:

It may seem a bit "womanlike," but I just love colors ♠_pleased:

I usually analyzed hands after playing, but after reading your comment I agree that doing this work before a session makes more sense. I need to try it myself ♠_cool: Also, I found an article about the "inch worm" that I’m about to read.

Nice, impressive work attitude, keep it up and gratz on ChromeStar.

Okey, having clue how you do things, i have a question, what do you try to learn or what is in your notes after watching 2h of WSOP videos?

Mastering the Mental Game (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyuXKei6gIU) Not that it seems you need it too much, but this is useful video to watch once in a while to see if you have areas in your mental game you can improve in.

You will start to see some better players only in 7$ spins and higher, below that it should be pretty much all the same thing.

I must admit that those videos don't make you a better player. But I mentioned in my first posts that I use them as motivation boosters "Work hard & one day You will be there" ♠_grin:. However, there are some good exceptions then Top pros play with hole cards up, which allows you to follow their thinking process. Plus You can catch good advices from Daniel Negreanu, Esfandiari or any other pro who often comes into commentary boot.

The InchWorm concept was new to me, and it makes a lot of sense. I believe the most difficult task is to find those Worst & Best aspects which You should work in order to make that Worm moving. I'm planning to watch that video You posted in a comment, have a feeling that an answer might be there ♠_ugly:

I have to admit those videos don't improve your play.

I've also observed recently that watching them doesn't help much. That's likely because the games take place in very different conditions (opponents, dynamics, stakes, etc.). Still, it can be enjoyable to watch at

I've never seen a player taking more than 2 tables on this limit Plenty of recreationals, so 12% ROI is probably Good but not Fantastic.

As PokerStars is marking 10 years of operation with challenges offering various rewards. Since I want to grow my bankroll however I can, I spent a few minutes on the "Cash challenge - win 3 hands with a fullhouse." Cards came and went, but full houses were reluctant ♠_rolleyes: It took 2 and a half hours before the 3rd arrived:

Poker Stars, $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em Cash, 6 Players

Poker Tools (http://www.holdemmanager.com/) Powered By Holdem Manager (http://www.holdemmanager.com/) - The Ultimate Poker Software (http://www.holdemmanager.com/) Suite.

SB: $15.70 (157 bb)

BB: $3.37 (33.7 bb)

UTG: $14.73 (147.3 bb)

MP: $12.68 (126.8 bb)

Hero (CO): $8.86 (88.6 bb)

BTN: $4.92 (49.2 bb)

Preflop: Hero is CO with A J

2 folds, Hero raises to $0.25, BTN calls $0.25, SB calls $0.20, BB folds

Flop: ($0.85) 3 J 3 (3 players)

SB checks, Hero bets $0.40, BTN folds, SB calls $0.40

Turn: ($1.65) 6 (2 players)

SB checks, Hero checks

River: ($1.65) J (2 players)

SB checks, Hero bets $0.80, SB calls $0.80

Results:

Spoiler $3.25 pot ($0.15 rake)

Final Board: 3 J 3 6 J

SB mucked 4 4 and lost (-$1.45 net)

Hero showed A J and won $3.10 ($1.65 net)

Was it worth it? I guess so..

It's a random remark; calling it salty is your interpretation.

This was one of the best Mental videos I've ever seen. No wonder he is on the Top of the coach list!

I'm happy it was useful to you. Be sure to revisit it in a few months to check how much you've improved during that period.

Speaking of podcasts, one I rate highly is called "Midstakes Living" — search for it on Google.

This is a fascinating read. Finally, the results are unmistakable and obvious. Happy to see a compatriot performing so well in poker for a change. Tony G must be proud. Sėkmės!

Your support brought me luck in one of the Tournaments I've played today

This allows me to conclude $1 Spins and jump into $3 Lottery My Spin & Go stats of this year:

And finally I can spend more than $1 on the tournament!

Awesome, that looks great! I haven’t visited that spot yet, but it appears to be an ideal place to be during such a busy tournament lol.

Keep up the excellent work!

Unfortunately I wasn’t aware of the Level Freerolls held on the last Saturday of the month. I was only Silver at PokerStars, so I couldn’t play 100k anyway. I’ll definitely be there next month.
