If players want to discuss these new 3 handed games on Stars, feel free to post in here. If we start to get a lot of resources for these games, we'll gather them in the OP here. Feel free to post hands or talk about how good or bad these games are or anything else (bankroll, strategy, etc.). You can also post more comprehensive topics (strategy or hands) in separate threads, just make sure to label it "Spin and Go" or "3 handed SNG" with the appropriate title (see the sticky rules for thread title direction). Well, I've decided to make a comeback to the world of Spins after grinding cash games for a while. I'm back to playing $10 spins and things have been going quite well - just under 80 Cev over the first 154 tournaments. Better still, for the first time I've had some luck. While historically I have run well below EV in cash games, Spins and tournaments, I've run substantially over EV during this span. It is nice for once to run well both in EV and chips won! Historically I have run about 58 Cev in $10 spins over ~ 3500 tournaments. I would consider moving up in stakes at this point but here the games go $1, $5, $10, $50...and I don't want to devote a bankroll to playing $50 games., plus $10 to $50 is a significant jump! In addition, it can often be tough to get a $10 game here so I'm sure the $50 games run very infrequently. All in all I'm having a good time playing Spins

Hello, I am a Spanish spins player. I'm going to migrate to play in the .com lobby. I was wondering what ev chip is drawn approximately at average pokerstars .com levels 10s, 25s, 50s Thanks in advance.

General question: in your opinion, which site currently has the best payout structure for spins?

Quick question on when to move up stakes: I’ve been studying and playing spins for about a month and things are going well so far. Should I move up from $2 to $5 with 140 buyins at $5, or is that premature as I’ve seen brutal variance from folks in this thread. Current status: Games played: ~1,500

cEV: ~100 p/g

Current buyins at $2: 350

Buyins if I move up to $5: 140

If you bust your account are you giving up poker? If so then I would want more like 250+ buyins. If you bust are you going to just shrug and redeposit? If so then I am fine with being more aggressive in moving up towards whatever limit you are striving for as long as you are winning.

Great reply. Thank you. I can redeposit. But I’m trying to do this ‘properly’. As in, be disciplined and grow my BR organically. I’ll probably move up but be ready to drop down if we hit a bad run and grind it up again.

You could take agro shots at higher stakes when you have x ammount of bins for your current level and move back if you drop below that. Like when you have 500$ for twos you could use the 200$ for taking shots at fives.

You are over thinking this. Take $200 (40 buy-ins) and go play some $5's. IF you lose the $200 drop back down to $2's.

After the New Year I decided to get back into Spins. Things have gone quite well: I am running 90 CEV in $10 spins over 460 games. As per my normal I am running significantly below EV...every format I play I am always we run way below EV.

It's hard when you're running bad, but try to stay positive and keep playing great poker. You're clearly better than the field and the rewards will come. Fwiw, here's my graph on my most played site and I'm also way under EV but have managed to be v profitable. The variance in spins seems brutal - feels like the biggest edge a good player can have is to not tilt!

Running bad for less than 1k games and crying about is so funny. At one point I have run close to 40k games under ev. It is what it is just need to grind it out or join a pool if you can't handle it.

I'm not crying about anything, and I am close to 7k games at the $10 level where I have run way under EV. But it would be nice if at some point, in any format I play, that I could run anywhere near EV. It is as if variance only runs in the negative direction!

Most everyone underestimates variance. If you play poker long enough, you’ll eventually run worse than you ever thought possible.

If bad runs can go on longer than we think… Guess what? Good runs can too. Don’t be one of the many people reading this right now who give in to their delusions. Delusions that they’re unlucky. Strive to be more in touch with reality than the players you play with. Strive to outwork them and outplay them.

I am definitionally unlucky. You can say that luck doesn’t exist in the long run, sure, but it surely does in the short to medium term. I have not done it in some time, but in every format I have played, when I chart my performance against possible outcomes ie variance, I have always been in the bottom 3rd of the chart. I have played 100s of thousands of cash game hands over several years. In all of that time I have had 1 month where I ran above EV. Ironically, that is also the only month where I had a negative EV. I think I should have lost $100ish but only lost like $50. The same goes for spins and MTT…never had a losing month in EV but never had a month where winnings were anywhere close to EV. So definitionally, I am unlucky. The question is how the luck affects play: it doesn’t seem to affect me much based on my cumulative EV.

I had hopes that chips won was finally going to get close to EV...then I went on a -6000 chip downswing today. Now I am -13000 chips below for the month. It helps that I continue to win despite the variance...my actual chips won/game is something like 61, so well above the profitability line. The big difference I am seeing in Spins after returning from hiatus is the amount of limping. I'm coming across guys limping all range of hands, from trash to big pockets. Seems like a pretty stupid strategy. I'm doing a lot of jamming with Ax and small pockets and other than that they are just giving free flops to crack their premiums.

silky28Micro-Stakes Grinder21 posts

So frustrating, dropped another 7,000 chips below EV over the last day. Now sitting 20k below for the month. But now, I am also in an EV slump. It is has been a constant stream of Jamming Ax into medium pocket pairs and losing. Seems like every game I get villain down to 3-4bb and then, hand after hand, get nothing but junk I can't jam.

TeamBas PokerNewbie1 posts

Honestly 7000 spins over such a long time is no real sample size. Spins is super high variance. EV line rarely meet and i know this from guys with sample sizes in the hundreds of thousands. Just focus on the things you can change and worry not about what you can not influence. It is not even worth the time it takes to write a post about such scenarios 😀 As for the run bad and crappy card distribution when shallow stacked, this is unfortunately another common thing with spins but the good news is, it also happens to our opponents too :P GL mate

It doesn’t really matter how you run in any format, does it? But it gets really damned annoying when, in every format you play you find yourself massively behind in the ev:wins ratio.

So far April has been the worst. Generally card dead mixed with huge counterfeits, coolers and non stop bad beats. For the month I am running negative EV with AA, KK, and QQ. I’ve gotten KK or QQ in vs AA 4x pre, and have had gotten KK in on the flop vs AA 3x. And, I haven’t won a single pot with AA when I’ve seen flop. In The latest one dude limped, I raised 3x with AA and he called with 10-6 off. Dude flopped a 6, called a 60% pot bet, then jammed turn when he hit 2 pair. And, on top of that, I’m also running below EV with those same hands. Somehow I’ve managed to run slightly positive EV for April despite this though, of course, I am still 20,000 chips below EV and that is still dropping. Very frustrating. This is just 1 game/example of the non-stop **** show. 2 limpers, I have A10o in BB and jam for 20bb. BTN fold, SB calls with K5s and flops a King and a flush draw before river the flush. Down to 6bb, I jam KQo same villain calls with Q2. We flop trip queens. River double pairs board and we split pot. 6bb jam AKo from SB and BB calls with J10…he rivers a straight

Good god, crap just continues. 10x multiplier villain takes out other opponent so it’s like 50bb to 25bb. I manage to get ahead down to about 15bb I get KK and raise to 2.2bb. Villain jams and I call…he shows A5o. Flop comes out 3 4 6 Turn 7 River 5 Next hand, I jam 55 and villain calls with AA beats me. Next hand i get bad beat and I’m out.

April has been an absolute grind. About 500 games running basically 0 CEV. Things turned over the last 200ish games with CEV up to about 80 over that span...but chips won over that time is actually negative. I'm now running 30,000 chips below EV. Honestly, the run bad in EV for 500 games bothers me more than running below EV.

Honestly the room you choose isn't that big of a consideration when you're playing anything below $5 IMO, even if there are some regs at $1 or $2 they will be very bad, best is just to see what the rb% you can achieve is, the format (GG format has 15bb starts for example so winrate is much more capped in that way), check the rake also. I'd guess pokerstars or partypoker maybe best options, at this stage you should be studying a bunch with an aim to move up ASAP

I made some calculations with the results in that image. You can win like 10 times the amount of money if you have the average winrate of 5 dollar normal spins, compared to playing turbo spins. I even considered that the player playing turbo spins could play double the amount of spins, and even then normal spins have 10x the profitability. My results are much better in turbo spins, which means I have a lot to learn and study.

If this is a limit where villains are generally making good decisions then I am ok with calling on both. If this a limit where villains are not really trying to win at poker I fold 1st hand make my decision on second based upon how aggressive opponent is.

Without any aff deals probably something like 70-80. And the pvi is 0.1 for most of the regs.

As other dude said these are easy calls. The only "exception" I might make is if I am playing a super tight player who is not jamming anything but Ax and pp butt here are few and easy to spot...the ones who below 10bb fold to any jam unless they have AJ+

Well, I've been back to playing regularly for a year and things have gone well money wise and ev wise, but not in chips won. For the year I am running ~60 CEV in $10 spins but am running ~80 wins below EV. Over the year I have had 1 month (November) where I ran above EV for a whopping 1,300 chips above EV. In every other month I have come no where near winning at EV. This month has been absolutely horrible. I am currently running 13,000 chips below EV and have had 7 massive losing streaks over 600 tournaments, and my CEV which has been averaging between 70 and 80 for most of the year has dropped to 50. I feel like my EV is being pulled down by my horrific luck. I mean, so often I am losing so many flips early in tournaments that I never really get a chance to build EV. Like today I open jammed 44 in the SB for 400 chips and lost to the BB who called with 5-8o. So from that I got an EV of about 38 chips but am out of the game and can't win anymore. It happens so often, evident by how badly I am running below EV. This is the Christmas present spins has given me!

Based on my flimsy math it seems that you are running about 10% below EV whereas I am running 20% below EV... Honestly, running below EV doesn't bother me that much. It only really bothers me in that I have run below EV in every single format of poker I have played. What bothers me, as I said in the last post, is that I constantly lose big flips. Liken when I'm on the BB with 20bb effective, button raises, I jam and get called by Q-10, KJ, QJ etc. hands where I am slightly good. I lose these, am out and do not get the opportunity to boost up my CEV.

You have an of EV 2,120,000 chips and have actually won 1,920,000 chips. 1,920,000 / 2,120,000 = .9056 or 90.56% That means you have won about 91% of the chips you should have over that span of hands. Sure, itÂ’s over a much larger span than mine which is about 4,000 tournaments, but that doesnÂ’t change the fact that I have won 80% of the chips I should have and you have won 90%. Ie you have run better than me in relationship of EV to Chips won.

Imagine having the gall to suggest you're running worse than someone running >500bi below ev over a sample 20x the size of yours because you've cherrypicked a ratio over your 4k game sample. Ime has certainly had multiple 4k game samples with worse runs than you're having to wind up with that sort of graph. If you want to succeed in spins, you have to do better than this. Absurd.

First off, its difficult to tell what he has done because he posted a fragment of his chart. Second, based on what he did post, he is running about 20,000 chips below EV so I do not know how that equates to 500 buy-ins below EV. Nevertheless, in one year (2024) or 7,141 tournaments, I ran 160 buy-ins below EV and I am doing it with more than double dude's CEV. Define succeed in spins? is it succeeding to win money playing? Then I have succeeded. Or is it success to run well in CEV? I'm sitting at about 70 CEV at $10 level. The only thing I do not succeed at, in spins, MTTs, cash and sit-n-go is running anywhere near EV. Ultimately I was able to make money despite running so poorly because of rake back and leaderboard bonuses. Since September the rake-back was slashed significantly and starting in the new year the leaderboard promo is gone. Without these perks, running as I do...

What's the largest spin you've ever won? My largest was a 25x on WSOP on a $2 spin. It's nice to get a large spin on WSOP because you're likely to win the leaderboard too when you get it.

I think I won a 200x for a $3 buy in, back when the spins were relatively new (around 2015 or 2016). Mind you, I have a couple of years without hitting anything larger than a 20x. I think it's almost impossible these days to hit a jackpot multiplier.

That would be an amazing feeling to hit a 200x! Still waiting on that one in a million shot at a 10,000x on WSOP. It's gotta hit for someone, right???

Last august, I actually qualified for the spin and go live tournament held at Barcelona for the EPT. I only won 2000 euros in that event, but it was a very fun experience and ended up traveling to one of the top cities of the world. I had no prior experience playing live poker, but made it to the second round anyway (and was very close of making it into the third round and securing at least an extra 2000 euros plus a jackpot prize). The leader board points for the spin and go live events are awarded in a purely random way but, clearly, you will have far bigger odds of winning that than ever hitting a 10,000x multiplier (literally, your odds of ever hitting a 10,000x multiplier are of 1 in 10 millions, so I think you probably should stop fantasizing about that ever happening). So, if you enjoy the spins format, I would encourage you to better forget about ever hitting a top multiplier, but maybe give it a try to qualify for the live events at the EPT.

Hi, I’m looking for Spin & Gold charts. I saw that Bass Team has charts for sale — are they worth buying?

Hey guys, I’ve just started playing Express tournaments, and I’m struggling to understand how variance manifests in this format. I’ve basically only been playing for a week. Just to clarify: I’ve only been following pre-flop charts for a few days and am still in the learning phase—but I can't seem to figure out what to expect. How much does "running good" or "running bad" actually impact my actual chips won versus my EV chips? What kind of BB/100 win rate should I be aiming for, and what kind of sample size is required to get a meaningful assessment? I ran a quick test; I'm posting the graphs below abi 3 euro. Thanks to anyone who takes the time to reply!
