I have so an old HP Compaq 6710b laptop, that last ran Windows XP,

I've installed Ubuntu 24.04 on it, and am playing around.

I've only ever used linux on servers in an industrial environment, so this is the bottom-left of the learning curve for me.

Do any members use linux as their daily OS?

Does anyone use it for playing poker?

Which poker sites allow play on Linux? For example, is Betsafe only available via its browser client? I stopped using Linux and switched to more business-focused systems, such as Microsoft Windows, as since it’s more business-oriented. That said, Linux remains excellent for exploration, learning, and hacking...

The installation was corrupt, and subsequently I have not been able to actually complete the installation.

As far as I can determine, the installation media is fine.

I've used two different USB flash drives, and two different tools for putting the .iso onto the drives.

All installations fail at the same place.

Hard disk tests show that the computer's drive is fine, as are both USB drives.

For my next trick, I'll try Fedora instead of Ubuntu

I've been using Linux Mint for almost 10 years. There are many poker rooms that let you play in a browser or on a mobile device. I can't grind 8 tables, but Zoom or a few tournaments are fine. 👍

Thanks, I'll have a look at it. It is an old 4GB laptop, and I've had problems getting modern distros to work

I installed Big Linux on my 15-year-old laptop without too much trouble.

As For my daily driver, I prefer CachyOS running Plasma.

The one issue I encounter with every distribution is that I can’t route the audio output via HDMI to my TV.
