It depends on the person, but in my opinion, it doesn't help it actually ruins my game. I've been a stoner for 10 years, and I can tell you that I play 100% better without weed. You're more productive without it. For the last two years, I've only used it before sleep, and I'm considering quitting in the future because it's just a bad habit. Try not to touch your stash until you finish your session and let me know do you perform better with or without weed?

Weed and poker can be a controversial combination, as its effects vary depending on the individual. Some players claim that cannabis helps them relax, reduces anxiety, and allows them to focus better during long sessions, especially in low-stress games. Others argue that it can impair judgment, slow reaction times, and lead to careless decision-making, particularly in high-stakes or fast-paced situations. It may also influence emotional stability, making players more prone to tilt or overconfidence. Whether it enhances or hinders performance largely depends on tolerance, mindset, and the ability to stay disciplined while under its influence. Moderation and knowing your limits are key factors when mixing cannabis and poker.

Weed and poker are two things that some people enjoy playing together, but there are several factors to consider

Ben Potential

Relaxation: Many

Increased Focus

Dow Potential

Slower Reaction Time: Cannabis

Increased Risk Taking: The โ€œChillโ€ Effect of Cannabis

Legal Considerations: Addiction

Ultimately, itโ€™s about finding what works best for you. Some players swear by it, believing it enhances their poker experience, while others prefer to keep their heads down for maximum performance.

I guess depends on the person and their goal, if is a pro playing 30 tables per day or a reg playing one tournament a week, if the goal is to have fun or make a motherload of money, any substance probably will make harder to play but also if the person can play like it was sober probably wont be a problem, i guess every case is a case.

To make serious money, probably joining a team and playing sober and serious is the best path.

Go for the gold.

I have smoked weed for over 30 years.

For me I prefer not to smoke if I am in a game.

I find that my mind becomes too relaxed and in the slow parts of the game, my concentration levels drop away causing me to not follow my opponents as well as I do normally.

I guess it is different for everyone but I would definitely suggest testing one self by playing in a MTT for an hour or 2 and then having a smoke and take an honest view of how it changes your game.

Overall , no matter the substance, your mind will be altered to the point that you don't make decisions as clearly and as sharply as an unaltered mind.

In essence I am very pro weed but not when my mind needs to be performing at its best.

The only thing I tried was Alcohol and Poker, wasn't drunk drunk but had a little to drink and maybe it was just my day but I managed to make the final table, But that doesn't mean that it's a good combo, sometimes you just run good regardless.

To be honest, I've never really tried this; people are different, so some might play better and others will say it's a huge mistake.

The only thing I have tried is alcohol with poker โ€” not completely wasted, just a little to drink โ€” and maybe it was just my day, but I managed to reach the final table. That doesn't prove it's a good combination; sometimes you simply run well regardless.

Everyone reacts uniquely, and I also think it depends on how much you smoke xD

Some players act without thinking, while for others it helps them stay more stoic and less emotional, which can improve their game.

Honestly, it depends on your objectives and how you manage it. For a casual home session with friends, it can increase the fun and help you unwind. But if youโ€™re grinding online or competing in serious tournaments, itโ€™s generally a poor choice. Weed can slow your thinking, disrupt memory, and make you more impulsiveโ€”three traits you donโ€™t want at the poker table.

Using weed while playing poker is a divisive subject because it impacts concentration, decision-making, and emotional regulationโ€”three crucial elements of the game. Some players believe it helps them unwind and enjoy playing, while others think it worsens judgment and slows their reactions. Over time, depending on any substance can be hazardous, particularly in high-stakes or competitive settings. The important factor is self-awareness: knowing how it changes your performance, imposing boundaries, and prioritizing clear thinking if you want steady results.
