Some players have lucky seats, lucky cards, specific routines, or even lucky clothing.

Do you have any poker superstition that you secretly follow?

In online poker (https://www.casino.us/poker/), when you win one hand, you lose the next one 85% of the time.

I should pretend I am not afraid of the play I did, otherwise the opponent will call my bluff (https://www.casino.us/poker/strategy/bluffing/) most of the times. Somehow they will feel it.

I play online and I prefer not go all in on the very first hand of a tournament. Even with pocket Aces.

Superstition is not a weakness of poker, but its cultural layer. One of the most common traditions is the lucky chip. It's placed on top of the stack, in the center, or separately in the pocket. Often, it's a chip from a memorable tournament, the first chip with which a player won a big pot, or simply "the one" that got them going.

I didn’t have it before, but now I do. If I’m winning, I try not to change anything. Everything has to stay in its place — I even control my breathing haha.

Do you have any poker superstitions?

As many gamblers in general (even though poker is more of a skill game, I still put it in this category), I do have some 'stupid' superstitions... as it's about poker - like lucky seat and/or lucky cheap/coin... still, the more I improve my game by studying and practicing on and off the poker tables, I find that probability doesn't care about my superstitions and/or feelings, so I need to focus on things I can do and control in order to improve my chances to make profit and less on this 'distractions'...

For me, it's all about consistency and protecting the flow. When playing online, I always prefer sticking to the exact same seat position if possible, and live, I always use a specific lucky token or card guard to cover my hand—feels like it keeps the bad energy away from my chips!

I wouldn't call it a superstition, but I do have a routine. I like to start a session with a clear mind, avoid distractions, and never chase losses. I believe preparation and discipline matter far more than lucky seats or lucky cards. If I have any "lucky charm," it's sticking to good bankroll (https://www.casino.us/poker/strategy/poker-bankroll-management/) management and making the best decisions possible.

I don't believe in any superstitions, talismans or amulets. In my opinion, all you need to play the game is a green sock and a mammoth tooth.

I don't really have any strong superstitions, but I do have a few routines before playing. I like to take a few minutes to clear my mind and avoid starting a session when I'm tired or distracted. I think having a consistent routine can sometimes feel like good luck, even though it doesn't actually change the cards. Do you have any superstition that you genuinely follow at the tables?

Leandro6803Micro-Stakes Grinder8 posts

Yes, I believe in luck, but I believe it only comes to those who are prepared. Having pocket Aces cracked twice in a single tournament is a huge stroke of luck, but staying up to date with poker study is essential for taking your game to the next level.

khushalpremMicro-Stakes Grinder22 posts

I don't rely on poker superstitions. I believe results come from good decisions, solid strategy, and managing variance not lucky seats, lucky cards, or lucky rituals. That said, many players have their own traditions, and as long as they don't affect decision making, they can be part of the fun.

Yes, I rarely play with a medium-level hand (such as “KJ” or “A9”) in situations where I won the previous hand. I may be revealing part of my poker strategy (https://www.casino.us/poker/strategy/), but this is my main superstition. 🤔

Yes, I have one- concerning bankroll (https://www.casino.us/poker/strategy/poker-bankroll-management/) management. If I get several personal bad beats in a row- it means it's not my day. So rather that chasing my losses and lose more money, I will get up and leave.

didi58xxMicro-Stakes Grinder22 posts

I don't really consider myself a super superstitious person, but after a brutal run of bad beats, sometimes you start wondering! - Personally, I always keep a tennis ball or a fidget spinner next to me when I play...playing with them when I'm in a tight spot feels like it brings me good luck - or at least helps me stay calm.

Do any of you have a specific lucky item or a routine you do before a session to bring good luck? Or is it all just nonsense to you?...

wavefunctionRegular27 posts

Not indeed because superstition comes from weakness of mind and while believing in process superstition plays no role

Das991992Regular33 posts

I don’t really have a lucky charm, but I can understand the fidget spinner idea. 😂 If it keeps you calm during a tough spot, maybe it’s not luck you’re carrying, it’s just better decision-making.

fzap1983Regular38 posts

Honestly, I think it's mostly nonsense. I don't believe a lucky object or a ritual can change the cards or the outcome of a hand. If playing with a tennis ball or a fidget spinner helps someone stay calm and focused, that's fine. But I think the real advantage comes from making good decisions, controlling your emotions and understanding the game. After a few bad beats, it's easy to start looking for some kind of luck or bad luck, but in the end, poker is about probabilities and decisions, not lucky objects

Some players believe that disrupting the arrangement of their chip stack can "break a winning streak." Consequently, they align their chips with millimeter precision, recount them after every hand, and get annoyed if the dealer accidentally shifts them. There is no rational basis for this, but the sense of control serves as a powerful psychological anchor.Sometimes, superstitions border on the absurd. A player might refuse to wear a new cap on the day a tournament begins because it hasn’t been “tested” yet. Another might steadfastly refuse to change their shoes as long as they remain in the game. Rational? No. Does it work? It certainly feels like it does.

Good morning, everyone! In poker, the luck factor only exists in the short term; in the long run, it disappears. You only need to look at the GGPoker lobby to find players who turned a mere $1 into cash prizes ranging from $8,000 to $30,000. That is the definition of getting lucky and hitting the jackpot. Regular players, on the other hand, do not rely on luck because they understand that poker probabilities stabilize as their volume of play increases.

Personally, I don't have one either. 😂 About 10 years ago, when I used to watch the wsop (https://www.casino.us/poker/tournaments/wsop/), you could often see something like this at the tables: top players would be sitting there with all kinds of lucky charms and little toys. 😂 These days, though, it seems like that trend has died out. I was watching this year's WSOP and only a few players had anything like that. That's when I first realized that a lot of poker players are pretty superstitious.

I don't really believe in big superstitions or lucky charms, but I do have a small routine. I prefer to have a clean desk and a fresh cup of tea or water before starting a long online session. It helps me stay calm and focused. For me, a comfortable environment is much better than any luck!

I can't say that I'm superstitious, but after several exhausting sittings, the lucky moment seems to be essential to have a good reading. Apart from a lucky object, I prefer to create the same atmosphere and rituals to help me concentrate better on the session. Although the objects don't make any difference, they help me to get into the right mindset.
