Maybe too many people spend their savings on the Knicks games or the World Cup 😅

I suspect it's a combination of reasons. Travel expenses have risen, the $10k entry fee is substantial for many competitors, and there are now more major tournament circuits globally. Despite that, the Main Event remains among the most prestigious poker tournaments.

The main event at WSOP has been experiencing a decrease in entries — what could be causing that?

I was under the impression this year's Main Event was one of the largest ever.

9,208 registered players rank this major event in fourth place in history

One thing I noticed when at the WSOP this year was how many fewer foreign visitors there were. I honestly think that played a large role. Higher prices and travel costs and the boycotting of the US are also major factors.
