I have been hosting an almost weekly cash game since the beginning of the year. I usually post a few pic each week in various places on the forum so I figured it would be a good idea to have a place to post pics and stories in one place.

For those that haven’t seen any of my other posts about my game, it is a $1/2 $300 max initial buy-in PLO/ Hold’em mixed game. We do allow rebuys up to $500 later in the night as well.

There is a high hand promotion. We collect $2 per pot that hits $30 to fund it. It is usually right around $200 each week.

I provide food and drinks each week.

Here are some pics of the food set up for this week.

The poker action was absolutely wild with massive suckouts everywhere.

I took the worst hit of the night. We ended up with 4 people all-in on the flop of :8c::4c::2h:

I held :qc::kc::8s::8h: and, of course, the second-largest stack called my all-in bet of $500 holding the nut flush draw and completed it on the river. 3 of us had clubs. That one really hurt!

But I bounced back the very next hand, doubling up when I hit on the river. 2 of us were all-in on the flop of 332 when we both hit our dangler 3.

After that I caught a pretty nice heater.

The final hand of the night was insane. Here’s a pic of the board; the pot was over $600.

Suck, resuck!! I booked a $770 win for the night.

I collect $1 per hand to fund the food and drinks. I stop collecting at midnight when the high hand is paid out. It is usually about $100. With the cost of the booze that is drank each week it is about a break even proposition.

I have tried to do it by donation in the past and would end up with $20. It is easier this way and the players all like it. They don’t have to worry about bringing anything to the game.

I grew up down the road in Akron/Canton/Stow and have been in Northwest Arkansas the last 10 years.

Got a bottle of that Cleveland whiskey 2nd from the right from a family member around Christmas. Quite enjoyed it. Nice setup sir!

Growing up just outside of Cincinnati, I always believed that Cleveland sucked.

I still believe that, but at least there's a good home game I can drop in on if I ever get stuck there. ;)

Looking through my phone I realized I hadn’t posted about the wild hand from last week.

This was the biggest cooler I’ve seen so far at in my Hold’em play.

The player with KK said he knew he was beaten by either a straight or a flush on the turn and only noticed the paired board giving him top full house. He insisted he never once considered a straight flush as when the betting occurred on the river, even though either the :9c: or the :ac: by itself would have beaten him.

River betting unfolded KK, leading to $100, AJ raising to $260, KK then instantly shoving all-in!!

The look of confusion on the face of the player with KK was priceless!!

Some of us expected straight flush versus straight flush.

The final pot was roughly $1300.

My game is heading out of town this week. I’m taking a “camping” trip with some of my poker pals; a few are bringing their wives/girlfriends. It’ll be a lot of eating and drinking as well as poker at night.

A few of the wives/girlfriends will join in, so the stakes will be very low 25/25c blinds, likely as small as $20 buy-ins.

I figure it’s a perfect opportunity to bring out my Club House 25c and $20 chips that haven’t seen the felt in ages. It’ll also be my first chance to use the PCF table topper.

800 chips, cards, cut cards, button, and small bills all packed for the trip.

A few photos from Thursday night’s game. I fell asleep early last night, so I didn’t get any then. I’ll try to remember to grab some tonight.

Everyone loves the table topper and wants me to order one if there’s another group buy.

Big winner of the evening. 25/50c Only Hold’em, unfortunately as since a few players refused to play PLO (or any other variant).

I can’t recall many of the hands from any of the nights as because we were all drinking heavily. I do remember plenty of bluffing and a few slow-rolls.

Lasts nights game was s great shorthanded one. There was suooosed to be 7-8 players but again a few players canceled or just didn’t show.

We edged up 5 handed but one of the players burned through $750 in two hours and left. The 4 of us left played until 3am then 3 handed until 4 am.

At about 11pm we decided to drop the Hold’em orbit for dealers choice. But since we were all so deep (over $1200 average Stack) and most of don’t know the games we put a $100 cap per player so nobody would get too hurt in any one hand. It worked well, we all enjoyed trying some different games that we haven’t played much.

We played SOHE, Hollywood, Razz, PLO8, Big O, triple and single draw as well.

It was a very fun night and I did pretty well.

In for $300, final stack.

I haven’t had a game in 3 weeks sadly. Last week was our camping trip game, but that was only 25/50c Hold’em. I fell asleep at the table it was so boring to me.

I am having trouble filling the table though. I had 8 signed up but only 5 showed.

If attendance doesn’t improve in the next few weeks I will either go to every other week or start to mix in some tournaments to try to find more players.

I really need to get to the casino to scope out some guys, but that is time consuming for sure and I just don’t have it. A few of my regulars have been trying but not much success so far.

The players that did show last night and I talked about attendance. They all can’t figure out why more people in our group aren’t playing in the game. They told me it is the best run, nicest room, best amenities in the area and really good action!

All of the players that came from the old Thursday game I was playing in have all dried up with the exception of 1 that will play on occasion.

Most of them are now playing in a high raked ($6/max) Hold’em only game. Nobody has won more than $200 in it yet! They would rather play that game spending $100 in rake hoping to win $100-200 than play in my game where the average for the big winner is always over $1k.

I guess they realized they are all fish and only want to swim with each other. One of the guys told me my home game is the hardest one he has ever played in. He is a long term losing player but he is smart enough to know when he is out of his league.

It is my experience that ALL regular NL games at $1/2 will eventually die out with the same players. A game needs at least 60-70 people to maintain a full table and you will need to constantly replace 10. It is unsustainable at a weekly and sometimes monthly cadence. It doesn’t matter what they tell you, people don’t like risking a few hundred dollars every week. They will always act like they want to play every week but then eventually start mysteriously having things come up that prevent them from coming. That or no shows.

Hell, I lost a few regulars at my neighborhood game when I went from $20 tourneys to $.25/.50 with $40 buy ins!! All the sudden they can never make it and they only lost maybe $60 max at any cash game they played.

Fear of loss isn’t always associated with income level either. I’ve played with wealthy guys who leave after loosing $200 and working class people who have dumped $2000 at $1/2 games. Some are even more embarrassed from losing than worried about the money.

Limit poker is the only savior but unfortunately I think that boat has sailed. People are to stubborn and macho to play it. It was the only way to play poker in a casino for 100 years but suddenly isn’t cool anymore. I’ve said it here and I’ve said it since 2005 - no limit is killing cash poker.

Earlier this month I had a $4/8 mixed Limit game and still had 3 people cancel or just not show on me!

I know if I offered a $100 max buy-in Hold’em only game I could get 7-8 players every game pretty easily. The problem for me I don’t enjoy playing only Hold’em, especially at those stakes. For me it would need to be $2/5 for Hold’em only.

If I don’t get at least 6 players this week for the $1/2 plo/Hold’em game I’ll probably make that game just once a month. Try to do a $4/8 Limit game once a month and mix in some tournaments to use as a recruitment tool.

I agree about needing a very large player pool, I sent out 60 invites to get 7 players to say yes and still lost some of those.

Another idea a player mentioned to me was to offer Insurance to players in a big pot to help control the big swings.

I’d prefer players run it multiple times but I have several that won’t at all. I understand their reason for it too.

I sent texts this afternoon about this week’s game and already have 8 people confirmed! A few regulars still haven’t responded.

It’ll be interesting to see whether a lot of them cancel over the next 2 days or if I’m left scrambling to fill seats Thursday afternoon.

Love the thread and the updates. Regarding sustainability, maybe implement a spread limit combined with overs buttons? My stakes are not as big as yours, 25¢/25¢, $5 max to $10 overs but perhaps scale that to fit stakes appropriate for your game?

I’ve found a spread limit plus overs lets some players wager larger amounts without forcing others into an awkward financial position. Just thinking out loud.

Second biggest pot at my game to date.

I 3 bet to $60, 4 callers, $300 in the middle.

Flop is pretty good!

I bet $300 and get 2 calls!!

Turn is perfect!!!

I jam the river and they both call of course because of the size of the pot now.

We run the river 3 times and hold all 3 times.

A few more photos from the game.

First large pot of the evening.

A hand I folded on this flop: I led for $20, was called in 2 spots, then it was 3 bet for the pot. Without the nut flush draw I folded.

The 3 better flopped the higher straight and was called by a set. The turn brought a spade that would have made it a winner. Even so, folding was the correct play.

The high-hand board. A couple of players thought it would be amusing to track how often I missed my draw, since I seem to be the luckiest poker player they know.

This game looks like a blast, I would 100% play if I lived within a 2hr drive (or 2hr flight haha). Your clubhouse chips are so killer, love seeing them in play. I’m trying to figure out how to even get a $.25/.50 or $.5/1 PLO/NLHE mix game going locally, everybody’s scared of PLO :(

Teach them! They are scared because they don’t know it. Have a $10 or $20 tournament so they can learn hand strengths without it costing them a bunch of money.

Talk strategy with them, talk about hands after they are over. You have to be careful how you do it though. Don’t brow beat, but more guidance. Players come to me all the time now with hand questions. Or will set their hand aside after a fold to ask me what I would have done in that spot. And I always give the best advice I can. I want them to improve! As they get better and start to push me my game will also improve.

Keep working it and they will come around. It has taken me years of developing players for be comfortable with the game.

I took a few cooler/bad beats and gave back most of my profit. But I recovered it all plus a little more in 2 nice pots.

In the first one I flop a broadway wrap and check-call the flop. The turn gives me a K-high diamond draw to go with it. TK bets the pot again and Jen calls. I wasn’t sure if I should have jammed my last $300 in or just called. I chose to call. The river is the 10 that completes both my straight and flush draw. Jen checks, I bet $200 and both players fold. That was a $600 pot.

Final hand (was supposed to be the 2nd last hand of the night) I have KK65 with spades. I raise to $15 from the SB, TK makes it $30 and we all see a flop. The flop is KQ3ss, I lead for $60, TK calls and Jen folds.

The turn is a 3 giving me top full house and I bet $100. TK instantly shoves all in for about $400 and I call. The river is a blank and I scoop another big pot.

Ended up winning just about $1200

Wow. I figure you must have had many swings to break even. I assume $700 required several rebuys.

I bought in for 200. I built it up a bit. Went all-in well ahead and lost everything in one fell swoop. The same thing occurred with the second 200 rebuy. For the third attempt I bought in for 300. I pushed it up to about 850 before cashing out at 710.

It’s a wild, entertaining, and extremely volatile game :)

Actually, I believe the second buy-in was a cooler I lost to a maniac. I held A/K and either hit or turned top two, while he held a set of aces.

Early on the game plays like a normal $1/2 game. Once a few rebuys happen it is pretty much a $2/5 game. Last night when we got to 4 handed we just put the straddle on every hand and essentially made it a $2/5 game.

The Browns are at home and on National TV Thursday night. Several of my regulars are going to the game so instead of trying to to get a short handed game off I am taking the week off.

Since the basement won’t be in use for 10 days or so I also decided it was a great time to replace the flooring in then basement.

The carpet is stained from the cat and dog.and I don’t like that part of the floor is ceramic tile from when the previous owner had a hot tub in the basement.

I have a Poker friend that owns a flooring distribution company and he hooked me up with some high end commercial quality flooring for a great deal.

Here is what the new floor will look like.

So by next weeks game it should be all done.

I have no clue — the person who built the table for me already had those legs and incorporated them into the build.

The floors are nearly 90% finished. The bathroom remains the primary area still to tackle. Applying stain to the 1/4 perimeter, tidying everything, and reassembling the space make up most of the remaining tasks.

Bathroom is finished now, a massive upgrade!! It took longer than I thought so the staining didn’t get completed. The step risers and the staining are the only things left. Once the kids are asleep I’ll begin putting the room back together. I’m considering altering the layout too, but the lighting will decide whether that’s feasible.

I have a pool of about 60 players. I text 30-40 each week. I begin with the top 15 who play most frequently, then try to fill the remaining spots from there. It takes me a few hours each week to organize.

Forgot to take many photos. Random single shot and the final 3 stacks for the evening. I was up around $900 when we reached 4 handed. But I got caught trying to represent the hand that bet and also called a couple of hands I figured were bluffs, which turned out not to be. Ended up taking $550. Jen in the picture was the big winner at just over $1k.

I won the high hand with the smallest winning hand so far, 5’s full of 9’s. It was only the second full house of the night, defeating my earlier one of 4’s full of 3’s.

The 8 hand felt pretty dull to me. The game slowed down. I had to tighten up. I was glad when we reached 5 and then 4 handed. Having the NFL game on didn’t help the tempo.

Expecting 7 maybe 8 players. Bringing the PCA’s into play for the first time since I traded half the set. It’s kind of a trial run to see if the set is still large enough to support the game. I’m a bit uneasy having only $4500 in $5 & $25 chips left before I have to use the $100 chips.

For 600 of these TRK Kings Crown chips.

Since then I’ve expanded the set to make it more usable for my game. Unfortunately I haven’t added any PCAs to complete it again. I’d really like one more rack each of $5s and $25s but I don’t want to spend $800 to get them.

I just broke the game. First hand of 3 handed action and we experienced the wildest cooler I can imagine here.

Button had on the $5 straddle, both blinds called and the button made it $20 to go. Blinds both called. The flop was pretty good for me, I’d say lol. It checked around on the flop and the turn. On the river the SB bet $35, I raised to $125 and the button shoved all-in. SB took some time but eventually jammed. I called and scooped a very nice pot!

Forgot to mention @gadgetmcnasty (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/4269/) was the unlucky bastard to catch the Jack on the river.

And to have the Q and no fear of a rare river cooler

I was actually disappointed when a Q appeared on the turn because I held one and figured I wouldn’t get any action. But it did add a second spade to the board, which then completed on the river. I thought one of them might have made a flush on the river. I considered just calling the BB’s river bet to try to induce a call from the Button if he had the flush. Given the actual hands, though, I’m fairly certain the money would have gone in either way.

He took his $900 stack down to $350 ish before I gave $150 or so back in the last few hands. The entire time he is bitching about how do I keep making all these hands. He just refuses to fold!!! The high hand was a fun one too with multiple people passing each other. It is much more fun this way than when someone hits quads or a straight flush pretty early and it is most likely done.

The winning hand of KKK44 was the third lowest winning hand since we have run the promo.

The local casino PLO game is the BIG game in Cleveland. It is a $1/2($5) game that plays much bigger than that.

Down $600 in under an hour. First big pot I lose to a 5 outer. Flop I have middle pair, a flush draw, and a broadway wrap. I bet, he calls; turn brings a broadway and puts Aces up, he bets the pot and I call.

River pairs the King and he shoves all in. I fold. He flips AKJx. He had flopped top two, picked up the 3 pair on the turn and couldn’t lay it down. Oh well.

Next buy-in was even nastier. Flop was broadway with an open-ended straight flush draw. I bet the flop and turn and he kept calling. River pairs the board, he checks to me and I check behind.

He had flopped a 2 pair, called all the way, and rivered the boat.

I look at it as investment in both players. I don’t see them holding onto it all night.

Had a game last night. I wasn’t sure it would happen since as of 11am yesterday I only had 4 confirmed people and a few saying “I’ll drop by later after my other plans”

One of the guys insisted we not cancel. He told me to announce the game and we’d get something going. It actually worked!!!

I wound up getting 10 players through the night, playing 8-9 dealt most of the night.

Action was wild, huge stacks were shifting everywhere.

Personally it wasn’t a great session. I took some brutal beats, but that’s part of it. I was never more than $300 ahead and finished down about $30.

The upside is a couple of longtime losing players had really good nights and finished with solid wins. They’ll probably be back for a stretch.

Every $5 and $25 chip I had made it into play. Any additional rebuys would have come from $100’s.

I wrapped the game up at 4am; we were 4 dealt and they would have kept playing until 7am if I hadn’t called it lol.

To those that are new here, a $30 loss for @Rhodeman77 (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/605/) is equivalent to a $30,000 loss to the rest of us.

$1/2 Hold’em & PLO rotation. $200 minimum/$300 maximum to start or 1/2 the big stack I used last night after only an hour lol.

We had 590 $5’s and 210 $25’s active.

How much money was in play?

How much money In play?

590x$5 = $2,950

210x$25 = $5,250

$2,950 + $5,250 = $8,200

Had a game last night. I wasn’t sure if it was going to happen since as of 11am yesterday I only had 4 for sure people and some “I’ll come by later after my other plans are done”

One of the guys said don’t cancel. Tell everyone the game is on and we’ll get a game off. Well it worked!!!

Well I ended up getting 10 players throughout the night, playing 8-9 handed most of the night.

Action was crazy, big stacks were moving all around.

Personally not a great night. Took some bad beats, but that happens. I was never up more than $300 and ended up with a loss of about $30.

The good news is that a couple of long time losing players had very nice nights booking solid wins. They should both be coming back for a while.

Every $5 and $25 chip I have ended up in play. Anymore rebuys would have been in $100’s.

I ended the game at 4am, we were 4 handed and they would have all played until 7am if I didn’t call it lol.

Besides folks possibly fearing they'll lose $700-1200 in one sitting, another factor that might explain why you couldn't get a full turnout is the menu.

Beans, cheeses, and the like. I hope that poker room has an amazing air-filtration system, lol! :P

I'm going to change things up and run a tournament this weekend. It appears there are enough players for a single-table PLO/PLO 8 event. 15k starting stacks. 1 emergency rebuy allowed before the first break. $60 buy-in.

I hope this will help a few more people become comfortable with PLO play for a lower-cost lesson than a cash game.

This will be the inaugural event in The Club House's tournament series.

9 players for the tournament. Fun time. I’ll probably to to do every other month or so.

I was up early but took a couple of bad beats from Hold’em players that had 2 pair turn into boats.

Playing 3 handed cash right now.

I’d love that too! Occasionally, when the player mix is right we’ve either added it into the rotation, or played dealer’s choice and it gets called frequently.

Later in the night (after midnight when the high hand is paid), depending on who’s still around we can propose adding it to the rotation.

Great game last night. We were full by 7 and stayed that way until about midnight.

Played 4 then 3 handed until 5am. Ugh I am exhausted today!!! 2 PCF’ers made the trip from Detroit area to play and they both won.

Used the mixed set and got to put the oversized AS chips into play. Had all 160 of the $25’s and about a barrel of $100’s on the felt along with 500 $5’s.

My wife made corned beef for the first time and it turned out very well. There wasn’t a slice left.

Some pics from the game. I think they have all been posted elsewhere but I still like to keep everything here too.

Well it’s been 3 weeks since I hosted a game and I need a fix!! Family life has been very busy and the new (soft) game I found have been hoarding my time. But I need to get MY chips into play.

A few regulars texted me over the last few days asking about a session, so after a few more messages I managed to fill the table fairly easily for Thursday Night Poker following a long break while I tried other nights.

Putting the recently expanded Casino Cancun’s into action. I plan to get all 10 racks of $5’s onto the table before I bring out the $25’s. It might end up looking more like a limit game than a PLO game!

As @detroitdad (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/399/) said, any pot that hits $30 I take $3 out of. $2 of it goes towards the high hand and $1 to cover the food and drinks provided. We stop collecting at midnight when the high hand is paid out.

Cool, it's nice to see how other people run their games :)

How did you bring up the 2+1 rake arrangement with your players?

It sounds like a good idea, but where I am I'm not permitted to require a rake.

Maybe I could ask for "tips" (though that would make me feel like I'm begging), or agree with the group that every player contributes a fixed amount for food and drinks. The HH concept is neat too, I guess :D

I'm uncertain how to raise this topic with my guests.

Back in the day we mostly played STT in a doll house (a small backyard cabin) at my friends' place, and everyone brought snacks and club soda and such; we were underage, so there was no real money involved.

Now I'm trying to build a group/player pool for a home game.

Since I have a house and a small family I'd like to offer my poker guests food, snacks, and drinks — it's just nice. But if I do that every time without charging or getting anything in return, I'll go broke..

Most of the players have been in other games that take heavy rakes, like $3-$4 per hand or a $20 fee on the buy-in. So $1 per hand for 5 hours doesn't bother them, especially with everything I supply. I've even opened a bottle of JW Blue on occasion.

When I tell a new player about the game I’m upfront about the $3 and explain how $2 of it is returned to the players that night. No one has ever refused to play because of it.

Technically my game might be illegal because of the $1, but I'm not worried. I have several cops who play, and those guys are degenerate gamblers lol!

@Emlemleml (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/3538/) if you 're hosting regularly (more so if you 're the only one ever hosting), you can ask for the cost of the food and soft drinks, divided by the number of players. That's acceptable even by ultra-hospitable Christian Orthodox standards

If you' re not hosting really regularly, you could ask for the individual cost only from winners in the end, and swallow the cost for the losers yourself, as the host.

Alcohol can be perceived as a gift anyway, either from the host (you should provide some) or from the invitees (the should bring as much as they feel they need).

@Rhodeman77 (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/605/) I understand you 're an ultra-fine PLO player, but wouldn't it be more ballanced to play 1/2 the NLHE orbits and 1/1 the PLO orbits?

Rivered the nut flush against two short stacks that went all in on the flop. Out of $25’s now too. Using the primary $100’s because I only have 10 of the secondary $100’s.

Rhodeman77Shark314 posts
Posted May 3, 2019, 5:13 AM#180

We just had back-to-back straight flushes!

In the first hand, the flop gave one player the nut flush and he got it all in against a semi-drunk, tilted opponent who had flopped a flush with an open-ended straight-flush redraw and then completed it on the river.

On the very next hand, one player flopped the steel wheel and the other player — the one who made the straight flush in the previous hand — turned a set of 6’s and rivered 6’s full of 5’s, calling only the river bet. Mostly he was afraid of the other player and didn’t fully consider how strong his own hand was. Usually he would have shouted POT in that situation.

Just finished, we were 4 handed when my wrap turned the nut straight and was bet into by 2 pair and a flush draw. I raised to $350 and was called by the guy on my left. Other two fold. He has a bare flush draw that missed. Both the other guys had flush draws as well so he was drawing very thin. Game ended then, the other 2 didn’t want to play 3 handed.

The second-best part of last night’s game, after the win, was taking so much from this player who turned every 2 pair hand into a full house at in the previous game. He used the same approach again last night, but his so-so hands didn’t convert to gold this time! He returned over $2k of what he’d taken from this stack.

The real problem is the harm it does long term. The other players that did show may be more likely to not play worried it will happen again.

The only good thing is the players that came know they all said they were coming because I sent the invite in a mass text that they all replied that they were coming. So they know I didn’t lie about how many players were supposed to be to be playing.

How would you rate texting you half an hour before the game to say that unfortunately they can't make it?

No mention that their kid, wife or pet had to be rushed to a doctor or something.

There’s no explanation that their kid, spouse, or pet had to be rushed to the doctor or anything like that.

This was from one of my best, most reliable players who’d been unusually courteous as a decent person.

That still stings, and I would ask why he couldn’t come and then let it go. But if it happened again with such short notice, I’d take it much more seriously.

As I told the no-shows that they weren’t just letting me down — they were letting down everyone else who committed to the game. We aren’t a public venue where someone else can be easily found to take the spot.

Honestly, better than nothing. But I've seen that situation reduce a table from 7 to 6, or from 6 to 5 before, and after that I began checking with my players 24 hours ahead to reconfirm when I'm "on the order", and that seems to help prevent last-minute cancellations when I'm a bit short-handed.

If it's one time and coming from someone who typically is a reliable player, I'd give him a pass. I'd take that any day over a complete no-show, that at least gives me the opportunity to start texting folks to either fill the seat or cancel the game. Now if that becomes the norm, they'd likely be off the invite list pretty quick. I've lost of a lot of my patience for nonsense in my old age :cautious:

Older is by no means a problem in itself; I would say the contrary. But it usually also means children, and most importantly and sadly:LOL: , wives!

In the case I described above, I strongly suspect it was about last minute's evil wife's intervention:D

I had a friend of mine about 10 years ago no show for a game. He was only a twice a year kind of player. Very reliable once he committed. About three hours into the game he called. He was a disaster on the phone. He had went to his FIL house and found him dead in a recliner from a heart attack. He apologized for no showing. So I banned him. J/K, lol.

A friend of mine about 10 years ago didn't show up for a game. He only played maybe twice a year, but when he committed he was dependable. Roughly three hours into the session he called me. He was a wreck on the phone. He had gone to his father‑in‑law’s house and discovered him dead in a recliner from a heart attack. He apologized for missing the game. So I banned him. J/K, lol.

Well, it’s not like his father‑in‑law was going anywhere. Priorities, right? I'm just saying. ;)

Two no-shows without a call, email, or text and you’re banned for the season. We’ve been playing for 12+ years and have essentially a 100% response/notification policy; those who ignore it don’t get re-invited. I understand that things come up — just let me know, even if it’s afterward.

I don’t have enough $1 chips across any of my sets to run a proper $2/4 limit game, and I didn’t want to lug 1000 $1’s to and from the casino, so I’m using my $2 chip set with a few $1’s reserved for the small blinds. It should be fine — when I hosted a $3/6 limit game using all $1’s with the Soapy’s Parlor set, several players asked about the $5 chips. They weren’t keen on counting out all the $1’s.

6 players are confirmed for tomorrow’s $2/4 limit circus lite game.

Only photo I managed to snap during the session. It came out nicely. Not much cash actually changed hands. We wrapped up by midnight. The biggest winner walked away with $170, the runner-up had only $50.

After everyone else left TK and I faced off heads-up in pot-limit Big O. It took roughly 2 hours to eliminate him, so I finished the night up $120 thanks to that heads-up match. Otherwise I would have been nearly even.

Hollywood 8 was by far the crowd favorite. Scrotum8 likely had the most deliberation in each hand. All in all it went well and we’ll definitely do it again, though hopefully at $4/8 so there’s some real money circulating.

Supposed to have the normal PLO/Hold’em game tomorrow. Hopefully it happens, I have 7 players that all confirmed tonight and 1 of them is a whale that doesn’t play much anymore but used to a weekly regular years ago. His family owns several boutique grocery stores so he has some money. I made sure to let my regulars know he is coming, I wouldn’t be surprised to get several last minute texts asking if there is an open seat lol. As predicted the players are coming out of the woodwork now! The table will be full if everyone shows.

What really frustrates me is that only 3 people responded right away, so even as of last night I wasn’t 100% convinced the game would happen since I’ve had people cancel the day of or simply not show many times.

Because of that I didn’t prepare a meal for 9 people in case the game was called off. I’m ordering pizza instead. My wife would have cooked something in the crockpot that’s always a hit, but without an early commitment I’m not risking a bunch of food going to waste.

End rant!

I get the frustration. I feel like I’m pleading with people to play so I can lock in a full table. Nobody seems to appreciate the effort that goes into providing the venue, food, and gambling supplies, and that the event needs players to stay the whole night to work out.

To address it I’ve been trying to recruit more people into the pool. Supply and demand means I can’t realistically threaten that the seats will run out... yet.

Had 2 people bow out, including one of my action whales. But the game stayed very juicy with lots of chips. Pretty much everyone carried a rack of $5 for a while.

I was part of a few insanely sick hands. In one I flopped the nut straight plus a flush and a larger straight redraw against the lone nut straight. So I was free-rolling him in a $1800+ pot. Brick, brick. :(

A few hands later I get it all in against the same guy on the turn with the nut straight and some blockers versus his top 2 pair and a flush draw. Another $1800+ pot, we agree to run 3 rivers, he makes full houses on the first 2 and my straight holds on the thirds. Yuck!

I added on after that hand and wound up in the game for $900. Right after, a player went on tilt and I caught some solid hands against him.

We played 3 handed until 3am.

Pretty early in the night.

Final 3 stacks

My stack. In for $900

Especially archetypal mediterranean dishes (various summer vegetables cooked in olive oil). Even better out of the fridge sometimes, than out of the oven - with tons of feta cheese and good bread.:jawdrop:

Shortly after the SF I took a couple of rough beats. First one I flopped top set with a Jack high flush draw. Bet the flop and turn, river completes the flush along with the obvious possible wrap that was on the flop. Villain check and I bet thinking he made his straight and may pay me off. He instead puts in a check raise and I pay him off. He doesn’t even have the nut flush, King high only, no other draw at all.

Next one was when a different villain and I both flop Broadway. I turn trip Jacks to go with it and it gives him a flush draw to go with his. So the pot got big! River is an off suite 4 and we both check and table our hands announcing straight. He says how he picked up his redraw to the flush and the dealer notices he has K1044 for a river full house, ugh!!!!!

Shortly after I bust a short stack and we are playing 3 handed. I win a big hand, about $800 when I flop Aces up, but the turn makes Broadway possible while giving me the nut flush draw. Villain check raises me for pot and I call. I complete my flush on the river and move all-in and get called. I got pretty lucky because he also made a flush to go along with his turned straight.

We stopped playing shortly after that as it was 4:15 and I knew I had to be up by 6:30 when the boys woke up.

Ended up winning $250 for the night. 2 new players booked small wins so hopefully they will be back.

Yes, those were all PLO hands. We modified the structure to 2 rounds of PLO to 1 round of Hold’em for a while until one of the dealers from the casino showed up that wanted to play 1:1 again. After midnight players can choose to deal PLO or Hold’em, pretty much every hand is PLO at that point.

Going on 2 hours of sleep on a poker night is pretty standard for me. It’s the only way I get to play! If I told my wife I have to sleep in she would laugh at me and tell me no more poker games. It’s the price to do business.

My friend rang to say he’d played his first casino session of PLO. He loved the action and the huge pots! For a debut session he did quite well — he finished even! :D

He took my advice and bought in short so he could shove on many flops when holding a big draw or a strong made hand. On his first two buy-ins he lost after flopping top set both times when a flush and a straight outdrew him. On the third buy-in he won a larger multiway pot when his middle set plus flush draw completed on the river. After that he was back to even and left soon after.

He wanted to thank me for the guidance because he knows he would have gone bust early and often by overplaying KKxx and QQxx type hands, not realizing they’re not strong in PLO.

And this is how I keep the kids busy when I’m heading into 3 hours of sleep and have a pounding headache. I didn’t drink excessively, but I tried several different beers including a bourbon-barrel-aged one that was quite strong, 1 car bomb, and 2 small pours of bourbon.

The corned beef was fantastic! I had hoped there’d be a piece at the bottom of the pan when the game finished, but that was wishful thinking.

Have to hide a slice at the start of the night!

Nice stack at the finish of the night. Do you usually play PLO, or do you do dealer’s choice/mixed games?

And how many racks of PCA $5s do you own?! Do you have a photo of your complete set?

We play Hold’em and PLO round by round until midnight. After midnight it is dealers choice between the 2 games which means we play just PLO lol.

I have 500 of the PCA $5’s, I had 800 of them but traded part of the set for a TRK set.

Check this thread for pics of my sets past and present.

This week has been wild and fortunately I didn’t have the game yesterday or it would have been canceled.

I ran great early but ended up surrendering a fair bit of it later in the night. A big blow came when I flopped top pair, a wrap, and an open-ended straight draw versus two pair, an open-ended straight draw with the superior flush draw. We got all-in on the turn and her two pair held.

My stack at its peak.

My friend that I have been working with to learn PLO is playing in his first casino PLO tournament today at the Hollywood casino in Columbus. I have been texting and talking with him during breaks. He was chip leader when the rebuy period ended and is now in the money.

He has only played 1 other casino cash session for PLO and 2 cash games at my house along with 5 training sessions.

Guess I should start charging for my PLO school! :cool

I’m organizing a game for next Friday, the 13th. If you and @Hornet (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/2668/) want to play I’ll hold seats for you.

I'm leaving for an overseas work trip on Saturday, but maybe next time. Also need to brush up on PLO a little bit, just so I'm not at the top of the next game's invite list haha. Would also be interested in a PLO tourney to get my bearings again!

Wooohoo!! Just found $1200 I forgot about lol. When I get home from the casino, usually around 4am I empty all of my pockets on the counter so I know where it all is when I get up the next day.

Apparently on a trip a while back I forgot to empty my pockets until I got to the bedroom. At which point I put the cash I had left (it was a losing night) in my dresser organizer. Which was then buried by my laundry that my wife is always reminding to put away. I finally put most of the laundry away this evening and was looking for a spare key I keep in the organizer and found the misplaced money. :D

Crazy night. We ran out of Tonk chips and had to bring other $100’s into play. Massive swings everywhere. No one could lock it down.

@Hornet (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/2668/) climbed a lot then got tangled in a $2100 train wreck hand that he ultimately lost. Set and nut-flush draw couldn’t survive the wrap.

I’m hosting again this Friday, table is full again!

As I was going over the player list I realized there are only 2 players from last week playing again this week! My player pool has definitely grown a lot in the last 6 months. I feel I will be able to have 2 regular ($1/2 PLO/Hold’em) games per month without much effort now.

Normally I would rotate on to the next set, but since most of the players didn’t get to play with the Tonks I’ll give them an extra week in the felt.

Huge hand already. 3 way all in on the flop. The hand that led the flop folded when it got back to him and he would have turned quad 4’s!!

And of course it is in the lead for high hand that was quad A’s from the first orbit of Hold’em!!

Just went on a big heater!

AA vs KK in Hold’em. He makes it $25 after a $7 open. I make it $100, he raises to $500, I jam for about $600 more. He folds the kings.

Then I have AA35 with nut diamonds. I call the $5 straddle looking to put in a big raise when it gets back to me but it goes 7 ways for $5.

Flop comes QQJdd. There is a bet of $25 and a call in front of me and I call too. Rest of the table folds. Turn is the Ac!!! Woohoo!!! Check, bet $85, I call and so does the flop bettor. River is an 8. Check, all-in, and I raise enough to put the other player all in if she wants to call. She folds. She had JJxx and the other guy had QJxx.
