New Most F*cked Up Incident Ever

I've been debating even making this post, as it will contribute to the "wtf is wrong with your game, @MrCatPants?" but I am stuck on the proper next course of action and would like some opinions.

Some of you may have noticed I had posted a semi-innocuous response in another thread talking about my last game that "I have a new worst thing that has ever happened." Well, here's what happened and what I'm thinking I'm going to do.

Hosted a muti-table tournament - we are in the cash game post tourney completion, so only about 7 of us are left out of the original ~20, and I have yet to use the restroom all night. I get up to go and clearly notice someone has significantly spattered the wall next to my toilet (about a good two feet away) and attempted to clean it using the paper handtowels I set out, but since it is builder grade paint is does not 'clean' well and there's clearly a major stain with a epicenter and significant corona of spatter. I know we all assume it's probably pee, but I don't know if it was vomit, a spilled drink, etc. I emerge befuddled and bring it up because I'm assuming the wall pee-er/puke-er would already have left. Based on the reaction, I believe that supposition is correct. I ended up having to repaint my bathroom the next morning - if my wife had noticed she would have lost her shit (and rightly so). I have not received any sort of communication or apology from anyone after the fact (I get why if someone did it accidently they may have just left and not wanted to bring it up with a large audience, but not receiving anything after is...troubling). I've done some soft feelers with more trusted regs, but no clear feedback.

I have debated sending out a note before my next tournament (as that crew does not fully overlap with my cash crew) with a 'hey, here's what happened last game, can't believe I'm saying this but please respect my house, yadda yadda - something like this cannot happen again' but 1) not sure that will help anything and 2) unsure if I should be actively trying to determine who this was, whether 'unfortunate accident' or negligence and 3) not sure if publicizing with my crew is the right move/if it makes it weirder or not. It's really fucked up.

What would you do next with an established group?

Are drugs or alcohol involved?

No drugs were involved, though that doesn't rule out someone having pregamed. I suspect one attendee in that respect, but I have no evidence of a connection.

Alcohol was present, but I don't recall anyone being completely hammered — and there's only one man who sometimes overdrinks. He was the first to be busted, so he didn't have much time to drink.

I think a blunt, public discussion is in order. "Someone peed on the wall. I had to repaint it. If MS Car finds out, we'll be in the doghouse for sure. Sit if you can't aim straight. Don't let this happen again" "I don't care who the guilty party is, Just don't let it happen again."

Oof that sucks. I'm more of a smartass so next poker game I'd line the bathroom in plastic liner and make a poster with arrows, but that's just me.

The fact that they tried to clean it up probably means they feel pretty bad about the whole situation.

I'm definitely going to send a note before the tournament explaining what occurred and why you had to clean it up. Hosting can be thankless and that's acceptable, but this crosses a different line of absurdity.

Check with a few trusted friends or regular players to see if they know anything about what or who damaged the wall. Put out some feelers about the Phantom Shitter.

edit: I just saw you've already started asking around

i thought about the poster idea. Like pee does not go here pee does not go here pee goes here. but seems a little passive aggressive. would rather be assertive.

Agree with the responses so far. When you send the invite for next game, add a footnote that, while it doesn't call out the incident specifically, will let everyone know to please respect the house and to clean up after yourselves, and to please come to you ASAP for any issues that are unable to be resolved on their own. Honesty is the best policy, but if the facilities and property are not going to be respected, that the occurrence of future games is in jeopardy.

when stuff happens at my game, I send an email to everyone (BCC) and sometimes I get replies, sometimes I don't. my wall also resembles some misses, but not sure if it's players, kids, or both. I've tried to clean, but it will also need to be repainted at some point.

I think it’s fair game to bring it up for sure, even in a generic way (eg. please keep it neat in the bathroom/house), especially if you’re comfortable with the guys you play with.

I once had someone puke in my fenced in backyard without telling me. Messaged everyone in a group chat the next day after my dog tried eating it and the guilty party fessed up (privately). Its awkward but getting it out in the open is probably the best way forward.

Next time invite the same group.

You as host should stand up before the game begins and say what needs to be said. Make it clear that if it happens again there will be no more games.

(You can still invite the reliable cash regs if it comes to that)

I once hosted a 39 player tournament. Once.

When I had to clean a puddle. Not a little dribble. An actual puddle of pee during the first break I knew I would never host a game that big again.

Unfortunately a lot of guys think they can piss while still drinking a beer and scrolling FB at the same time.

Definitely say something like the good @DrStrange (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/574/) said. Not saying anything only makes it worse. Also, put some extra cleaning supplies, Clorox wipes, roll of paper towels, some disinfectant spray etc in the bathroom so if someone does have some kind of accident they can clean it up without any embarrassment of having to ask you. And make sure to tell the players they are there and to use them.

Funny how my current game went from me being able to quickly assemble funds based off the aluminum I’d gather up to not a drop of alcohol being consumed.

The first 450 sessions I spread at The Frogtown Card Club never made it out of the muck like that.

Unfortunately, it’s just the cost of doing business. If you’re going to host 1000 poker games over 10 years, something like this is bound to occur. Not sure discussing it will change anything, but that’s a real bummer for you — glad you managed to get it sorted.

I stopped inviting one rather large fellow because he would frequently wreck my bathroom…

I like this answer the best. I've also done exactly this. I hosted a 3 table 27-person series that spanned 8 games, so the same people showed up each time...

There were multiple bathrooms in the house, but I only gave guests permission to use 2 of them.... somehow a guest ventured into an unauthorized bathroom and proceeded to use my roommates personal items, and pee on the floor, and not clean up.

I never found out who it was, but I decided to make the announcement at the next game that any player found to use that bathroom would receive a lifetime ban from the game. It was direct, quick, and I got the validation in the moment based on everyone's faces that they knew I was not messing around. No incidents since, and back to Mr. Rosskeys-nice-guy.

First question - do you have any male children between the ages of 3 and 25? I have 4 boys. Cleaning piss off walls and floors was a daily chore.

Second - Clorox wipes on top of the toilet and Kleenex disposable hand towels. Like someone said, drinking a beer and scrolling PCF leaves no hands free. Give them something to immediately wipe up any misfires.

Third - oil based paint with at least a semi-gloss sheen. I just moved my daughter out and needed a hazmat suit to clean her bathroom. Every hair color she's had since she was ten was splattered all over the place, and if you think boys are disgusting.....girls are worse. This is the poker room bathroom and every surface has been primed, painted, and recaulked.

Thank God it wasn't post Taco Bell splatter.

This is not at all helpful but I can’t imagine how what you described even happened to a wall, and I also can’t imagine having a surface near a toilet that doesn’t clean easily and can be stained.

But I also can’t imagine damaging somebody’s bathroom and not saying something to them, whether they’re a friend or a stranger. Though I suppose alcohol does some strange things.

So no, you should t have to tell adults to respect your house, but now you do.

We had a host who discovered, after a tournament, that someone had broken the seat and cover on his fancy Japanese toilet/bidet right off the hinges. How they did it? Who knows. Who did it? We never found out.

That particular host just told everyone that next time (I hope there’s never a next time) please give him the heads up at least, that it wouldn’t have been a big deal, but he didn’t want to have to discover it on his own. No one ever fessed up.

Eventually we just made light of it, we still occasionally have a good laugh about it, but everyone moved on.

TonysquanderRegular38 posts

Worst part (and a constant reminder when he hosts) is that even though he had it fixed the damn auto seat will never stay up for standing action. Has a mind of its own. Will open at the press of a button but will then start to drop and try to chop your manhood at the worst possible moment. You either have to sit to pee or try to hold it up with your knee. The whole thing has become a farce.

Me and 3-4 other guys hosted eight 30 person tournaments a year from 2002 - 2010. We stopped because people started treating our houses like a casino or business rather than a house.

I remember piss splatter and drippings all over my buddy's floor and I came out and said something to effect of “what type of scumbag piece of shit would piss on the floor”. No one admitted it but it didn’t happen the rest of the night again.

Someone once also stole an entire unopened case of beer we had on an outside porch keeping cold in the winter. Luckily the worse thing that happened at my place was cigarette butts all over the back lawn

Honestly I don't understand how people fail to aim. It's a pistol fired multiple times a day for life. Lift the seat and aim for the middle like that squirtgun ga.e at the carnival. Anything else is ignorant.

I'd steam your wall and consider painting. At the next game I'd bluntly say...look someone did something to the wall in the bathroom, it's now painted Don't Ever do t again, or there will be issues. If you can't aim *%$@¥ (words) sit.

IWhen my daughter was young and I took her to a public washroom I would to call people who made a mess "pigs". While at a local thempark she was about 5, she said "Daddy, a pig peed on the seat in here.....and there he is (pointing her finger at a grown man. I've had similar. Builder's painters used nasty cheap paint that is easily damaged when wiping it. They also didn't use a primer on raw plaster before painting. Heard some painters dilute the paint which can result in similar.

Someone up thread mentioned good quality semi-gloss. That indeed cleans better without damage (with care).

Lock the bathroom and make them do their business outside.*

  • Note: That’s what we do at my place anyway. Game is in my barn. People go out and piss into the edge of the woods. If someone needs to do more, they have to ask (embarrassing) and take a walk of shame with me back to the house (about 200 yards away). Everyone seems to remember to crap at home before the game now, or else is holding the #2 in. Which frankly gives me an edge, I think.

Still host poker, just don’t permit urination. If they need to pee they have to go home and return.

(My phone autocorrected to “just don’t allow ruination” and I was like whoa, don’t we all want that?)

All jokes aside, I’d put some better paint on the bathroom walls.

Get some Ben Moore. I’d keep it flat as you can touch it up vs having to paint the whole wall. Or go satin or egg shell which will be “cleanable” but not “touch-up-able”

If you host poker games. It just bound to happen again - lol.

I would say something to the whole group... and make sure you do it at a few events to make sure you cover everyone.

YOU are opening your home up to others. YOU are the host. YOU have every right to have expectations of how others treat you and your home. Period.

I used to have a sign posted, above the john: "The Inland Empire Poker League Aims to please! YOU aim too, please" A subtle reminder to pay attention, and that it will be noticed if someone doesnt.

Those Kleenex hand towels are pretty nice, except when someone tries to flush them. I no longer use them at my house. People try to flush them and they stop up the toilet and it overflows aka Windy Floody Blow Out.

I've experienced this too. Seriously, what is wrong with people?

Were you unaware? Apparently, once something is flushed it magically stops existing!

JeffRegular28 posts
Posted Apr 1, 2025, 6:53 PM#98

Yes, sometimes flushing fixes the problem. Sometimes it doesn’t. When I was a kid, my parents owned an old house and the main sewer line leaving the house had to be replaced because it wasn’t draining properly and kept backing up. They assumed the iron pipe was being crushed and invaded by a tree’s roots… which it was. But that alone wasn’t causing the backups. When they dug up the backyard and took the pipe out, the contractor tossed the removed section in front of everyone. Out popped a bra (along with several other adult items suggesting my parents believed they had enough kids). Apparently my mom had decided it was easier to flush a bra than to fish it out of the toilet.

If they actually tried to clean it up, but the terrible paint on your walls prohibited them from doing so, it sounds like they did you a favor in the long run. Still annoying to deal with.

A few months ago I had one of my players blow up my bathroom, and maybe shit their pants? There was splatter all on the underside of the seat and they used the hand towel to clean themselves up with because it was soaking wet and smelled like shit. My wife was the one who found it and was not impressed. The towel got thrown out. I encourage everyone at my game to just go outside as I’ve got a big fenced backyard with a large gravel area and only use the inside bathroom for more urgent issues. Apparently this was a more urgent issue. I just wish they had let me know privately instead of leaving a shitty towel on the sink.

Haha, definitely not. I just didn’t want them to leave a shitty towel on the sink. Pretty sure it was an older guy, and embarrassing things happen. It’s part of the cost of hosting a home game, but like the OP, it would have been nice if they’d told me so I could deal with it instead of stumbling across it later.

More bathroom hijinx. Two games ago someone clearly used the toilet paper roll holder to help themselves get off the toilet and then jimmied it back in the wall.

We noticed it was loose, and wouldn't "tighten" with the set screws, so I took it apart and the wall anchors were both snapped off inside the wall. WTF.

Well, we can eliminate @harrysallout (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/563/) from this one. His arms definitely can’t reach the paper roll holder while sitting on the toilet.
