I just paid for 2 custom Pharaoh USA card tables. So Excited!!!! Round 60" with dining top and a 108" Texas Hold 'Em with dining top. Both with matching chairs. I will make sure I get pics when they get delivered and set up. I'm getting my basement finished with a bar. Silver and Black mainly for the colors to match a certain Major League Baseball team. Anyone have any experience with Pharaoh. Up until now, they have been great to work with.

Same — eager to see photos... By the way, do you mind sharing what their chairs cost?

$300-$900

$300 were the armless ones. The matching wood-panel models with armrests were $900.

There were a few mid-priced options, but their $300 actually looked better.

I’ll post some pics when they get here

$300-$900

$300 lacked arms. The more elaborate wood panels with armrests were $900.

There were a few mid-priced models, but their $300 actually looked better.

I’ll share some photos when they arrive.

Nice!! I think you’ll appreciate armless chairs and the 108" table. Longer tables accommodate 9 players and a dealer much more comfortably and give everyone a bit of elbow room.

I wanted a classic base yet modern. These were definitely that. I loved some of their more aggressive style like the Luxor (a V shape) and Cleopatra (a U shape) designs but as a dining and conference table, I don’t think it would have looked as nice.

So an update about my table setups and the basement finish.

Good news and bad news.

Bad news first.

My basement finishing project had been moving along well, even with the mass hysteria and stay at home orders over the past 2 weeks. My contractors stayed on schedule and all the supplies and home improvement stores were deemed essential. This week was supposed to be the finish line: flooring, tile, cabinet installation, and granite for my bar. Everything was on track...

Until...

The cabinet manufacturer has suspended operations because of Chinese import restrictions and factory shutdowns in China (I’m not proud of choosing Chinese cabinets but that decision was made long before current events, and going with custom cabinets would have tripled the price for half the quality — long story). The main issue is that 2 of the cabinets for the bar are on back order, along with the bathroom vanity. Backorder right now means at least 2 months.

SUCKS!!

Now the good news...

I’m an essential employee (very essential), so I still have a job, and my family and I are healthy (knock on wood), so this is really 1 world problems.

Another positive, staying on topic, is that the only parts of my basement that current events are affecting are the bar and the vanity.

BOOM!!!!

The floor and tile should likely be finished by midweek and painting will complete the finish along with doors and trim. The plan is to have the tables set up by the weekend if everything goes as planned. The granite, cabinets, and vanity will be delayed until likely June, but my New York City apartment–sized crates can be emptied and arranged.

Very exciting. I’ll make sure to post pictures once the tables are set up.

TomC727Shark418 posts
Posted Apr 3, 2020, 6:23 AM#30

Another update.

Since Monday, my contractor discovered the cabinet manufacturer had filled all their backorders and the remaining cabinets for my job were now available. Fast forward to today: the remaining cabinets have been installed and granite templating and installation will probably occur next week.

The overall completion timeline is now about 2 weeks.

I’ll be sure to take some pictures when I’m there tomorrow.

Thanks for keeping me safe (sarcasm).

On a serious note...

We all work in healthcare and the vast majority of us have already received both vaccine doses.

Between vaccination and some having already had Covid, I’m not worried.

If we can sit inside a pressurized tube for 3+ hours less than a foot apart next to complete strangers, it’s fine to play cards with your close circle.

We happen to all be in healthcare and the vast majority of us have already gotten both doses of the vaccine.

Between the vaccination and some already had Covid, I’m not concerned.

Not to start a Covid war, but masks are not as helpful as the media would want you to think, and asymptomatic spread is actually quite rare, much less than what we’ve been lead to believe.

If we can sit inside a pressurized tube for 3+ hours less than a foot apart next to total strangers, it’s ok to play cards with your inner circle.

I want to let this go, but since you tried to give yourself credibility as a person in health care, your words are dangerous to those who have yet to be vaccinated and need to be refuted.

This is not media, it’s science - https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/more/masking-science-sars-cov2.html

“asymptomatic or presymptomatic infected wearers who feel well and may be unaware of their infectiousness to others, and who are estimated to account for more than 50% of transmissions”

“A retrospective case-control study from Thailand documented that, among more than 1,000 persons interviewed as part of contact tracing investigations, those who reported having always worn a mask during high-risk exposures experienced a greater than 70% reduced risk of acquiring infection compared with persons who did not wear masks under these circumstances”

“A study of an outbreak aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt, an environment notable for congregate living quarters and close working environments, found that use of face coverings on-board was associated with a 70% reduced risk.”

Enjoy your game!

Thanks for the info, but there are other papers saying otherwise.

On top of that, you should probably read that study you just cited. It specifically states what type of mask was studied.

And yes, I am a person in healthcare, and you literally have no idea what I actually do in it. I will keep that secret, though.

This is not a Covid thread so I’m going to leave it at that. You can take your refuting of my post and papers to another thread. Masks and asymptomatic spread are not as clear cut as you would want to believe.

Enjoy your next games, whenever they will be.

It doesn’t matter what you do in health care; you offered that detail to bolster your credibility, and someone not well-versed in the subject might be misled by taking your word for it. I’ve referenced official sources and studies. You haven’t — until you do, your assertion lacks credibility.

Yes, I was looking through PCF and came across his post and was thinking, I am going to take this random person’s word on a poker chip forum and throw my mask away. But good thing another random person put a link to read. I hope no one is taking medical advice from a bunch of chip degenerates.

Anyway @TomC727 (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/7168/) I absolutely love your table and chairs. We played last night and had an absolute blast.

Wrong, he identified himself as a person who worked in a medical field, not a random person. He did it to lend himself credence in what he was saying, which is not supported by peer reviewed scientific data.

I’m sorry you’ve self identified as a degenerate, condolences. I have a graduate education and have studied the harmful effects of disinformation. It’s real. Just this week they found a pipe bomb a third of a mile from where I live, where my girlfriend runs by everyday, because some neanderthal bought into disinformation. Incorrect, dangerous information must be ID’d and corrected.

But I didn’t ask you to take my word for it, I provided evidence, data from authoritative sources on the topic.

Anyway, thanks for spreading the vid around

If you haven’t decided/researched on your own after almost a year of the pandemic, do you think someone on an anonymous forum about poker chips is going to change/make up their mind on the “science”? I don’t care if your user name is @fauci and you say you just spoke to the president of the United States, I am not taking your medical advice.

That’s the last thing I am going to say about it. Sorry to derail.

I think you should probably find another thread, or even another message board, to discuss your covid information. I will sleep better at night knowing you have a graduate education.

If I wanted to lend credence, I would have specifically said what I do in the medical field. Explaining that most of the players have been vaccinated because of being in healthcare, was the reason for stating that fact.

Most of the posters here have moved on, I recommend you do, too, or if you can't, find another place.

Seriously impressive setup, man. I mean, truly, really well done. It makes the table in my bonus room look pretty amateur. I use a hot dog roller myself (no 4 hours in a crockpot nonsense in my game ;)

Enjoy your room, brother. Your friends are lucky people.

Enjoy your room brother. Your friends are fortunate folk.

Thank you.

When I was planning my basement finish, I jumped at the chance to have nice poker tables built. I haven’t had home games since college, which was over 15 years ago. My plan hopefully is to get a regular game at least monthly when Covid dies down. For now, it’s mainly coworkers, who aren’t major players, but it will do.

I'm running a game next Saturday evening. It appears it’ll be a 2 table tournament with about 14-16 players. I’ll try to grab a few action shots

I was playing every Thursday in Sept-Nov with the same 8-9 guys from town. 6 of us attended college together and now live 10 minutes apart, so there's a strong sense of trust that we won't intentionally expose each other. We paused from Thanksgiving until now for the holidays and expect to restart in a week or two. Most of us have been working from home, so it's been manageable. We haven't worn masks while playing, but we've been a bit more cautious with snacks: single-serve bags of nuts or chips instead of communal bowls, and toothpicks for the cheese and crackers. We placed sanitizer by the bar and snacks. Naturally, anyone feeling unwell stays home, and those who were in close contact with a case take 2 weeks off.

Can't wait to get back at it.

Good luck!

Everything you've done is absolutely incredible, man. It looks so damn sweet. Congrats on a beautiful place that should make everyone feel fortunate to play at.

Really fantastic work here, but f*ck me, those chairs look amazing. I've been wanting to replace my mismatched, old, beat-up office chairs for a while now, and seeing these might be the push I need to actually buy some. Gorgeous.

PS...you should change the thread title to whatever your poker room/area is called instead.

Dayglo Yellow or Dayglo Saturn?

Dayglo Yellow seems very light in the yellow department compared to regular yellow and Saturn.

CPC actually recommended Dayglo Yellow with regular pink, but it seemed too light with the yellow.

I’ll have to look at my samples again and make sure.

I have a regular yellow regular pink 314 and it looks great.

To my eye, the Blurple, red, and maroon appear a bit too similar, though that might look different in person.

In my case, with my current set, it works very well.

Yep, it looks great with the smaller spots — just watch out with the 1/2 Pie.

If that tiny spot on the purple chip in your photo is now 1/2 the chip, it could appear too similar to the base color of the last chip on the right.

Got it — it works well with the smaller spots; just watch out for the 1/2 pie.

If that tiny mark on the purple chip in your photo is now 1/2 the chip, it could end up appearing too near the base hue of the final chip on the right.

I feel the paler yellow will reduce that issue, particularly with the Dayglo yellow in play.

It was a very successful night when a lot of my beer supply was consumed (I don’t really drink beer but usually have a big selection that will just sit in my bar fridge), and the pound of strawberries I cut for the drink special disappeared pretty fast. I try to have 1 or 2 featured drinks instead of just random crap. Last night, the 2 were a Strawberry Gin Fizz, and a drink I stole the recipe from a speakeasy out in Philadelphia called the Henry Box Brown. It literally is fresh squeezed red grape juice and 15yr El Dorado rum. Personally, it’s my favorite drink.

That does sound delicious, mostly a beer drinker myself but been on a diet since late August. I have had half a beer 3 different times and 1 Oliver Brewing Company (local brewery) when we joined a fellow PCFer for dinner not long ago.

I need to come up with a good low call Margarita for an upcoming event... or just say screw it and accept the vacation weight!

Red grape juice or grape fruit juice? I prefer tequila but enjoy a good rum drink. Or collection isn't that of yours

Nothing really rare, more about drinkable and not worry about the value. I was stoked to finally find my full bottle of 151, I bought that one about 15 years ago and never got into it... I didn't even know they quit making it in 2016. Unfortunately it has been opened so value is shot but still cool to have!

But if you haven't herd of it I recently found out they are still making rum! Try to get one of these!!

or maybe order a half a case if you have to order it!! They make a special reserve you can only buy from the Distillery and I am thinking about a road trip and visit @Poker Zombie (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/334/) and @Mrs Poker Zombie (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/1185/) on the way!! BTW I showed my wife the Dug Out and those chairs (I REALLY want those). She slapped me in the face when I asked if she wouldn’t mind me buying 9. LOL. I showed her that you had 14 and I wasn’t as crazy as you but it didn’t work.

Apparently it has been gone a few years now. I also have Cruzan 151... I heard they made them back it off to 149 proof! Lol but apparently there were medical issues and deaths from drinking 151 and they were going after the Rum companies so they quit making it all together. Just sad man, yes late high school and early 20s that was the go to for getting it in! Lol

On uno I have been buying dice in matching sticks of 5 hoping to get a yahtzee game going when waiting for players to arrive!

Our last home game we did a 6 player turbo (5 minute rounds 1/2, 2/4, 5/10, 10/20, 25/50, 50/100) SS of T500 like a satalite where every one throws in 1/6 of the buy in for the tourney. 30 minutes it is over (chip up while playing)... kind of a warm up and better than flipping for $20 like many games! It was a lot of fun! Something to think about!

What are all those Pelican cases?

How are your TVs connected? Do they route all their inputs down to the floor? How do you link them to your Tournament Director software?

Lol. Not what you expect.

They’re actually all filled with poker chips.

Regarding the TVs, they’re all fed into an HDMI switcher via in-wall and ceiling runs to the house’s central hub. I can distribute DirecTV to every set, run Apple TV, any streaming app you name, or mirror from a device.

For the card games, rather than dedicating a whole TV to the poker software, I put a 24” TV in the window and mirror an iPad to it.

I honestly don’t know. My AV company handled it. I believe it’s cat-6.

My plan is to place this canvas beneath the window to the right of The Godfather frame.

I’m still deciding what to put beneath the other TV. The idea is to use a 16x24 canvas to complement the poker dogs. Choices are either a classic shot of the gambling sign on downtown Vegas, an old-school photo of The Stardust (I love the mob history and the ties to Chicago), or a vintage black-and-white of my grandfather with his brothers (real old-school Italians, very classic appearance). I never met him — he passed away a year before I was born — but I think it would look great.

PAPPY.

OK, time to tell us the story, and how much you dropped....

So, surprisingly, not that much.

Here’s the story.

I was out of state on business and walked into a local liquor store, to discover Weller’s Single Barrel under secondary. I picked up a bunch of bottles, and was able to flip them for a few other bottles, including the Pappy 15.

Here’s what happened.

I was traveling for work and stopped into a neighborhood liquor shop, where I found Weller’s Single Barrel on the secondary market. I grabbed several bottles and managed to trade them for a few others, including the Pappy 15.

Could this find really have been right in my own backyard?!

I'm hunting for solid rocks glasses that will fit into a poker table's "large" cupholders. I forgot to mention, for any drummers following this thread…

Roughly 6 weeks ago, I flew down to Houston to visit a drum shop and commission my dream drum kit. It’s a DW Collector’s Series with an exotic wood finish. DW is also crafting a set of congas and bongos to accompany the kit. The wait time is about 9 months.

Saying I’m excited doesn’t do it justice.

A bit of background: I began playing when I was 5. I played a great deal through high school and attended college on a full music scholarship (I was a music minor). After college came med school, residency, fellowship, and starting a new job, which resulted in a hiatus of about 7 years with very limited playing.

Now that the basement is finished, I converted it into a music room and took my drums out of their flight cases. The drum kit shown is over 30 years old.

I spent the past 6 month researching commissioning my dream kit, and the chance finally presented itself.

I actually got to play one of his kits at a drum show. It was being raffled for charity. Gorgeous kit but the configuration was too large for my taste.

I normally dislike gold hardware, yet surprisingly the gold on my new set complements the finish really well. I hadn't planned to buy this set because of the gold hardware, but after thinking it over and seeing photos showing both chrome and the gold hardware on the drums, I decided it looks good. I reckon chrome hardware with this finish would clash.

My Cherry/Mahogany set on order will come with the standard chrome.

The hardest part, I found, was locating a pedestal tall enough off the floor but not so tall that the slots would sit above the TVs on the wall.

I ultimately bought 2 adjustable washer/dryer platforms that are extended to their maximum at 9.5in height. With the shorter bar stools, they feel like wheelchair-height, similar to the low tables in casinos that provide handicap access.

For now, they serve their purpose. If they see heavy use, I might have custom platforms made to be about 15" off the floor, to lift them up a bit more.

I totally forgot to take photos last night.

The table saw plenty of action when I ran a NL Hold'em and Omaha cash game (dealer's choice). We had a solid turnout of 9 players and a fantastic spread. Played for roughly 6 hours.

Everyone had a great time.

So my ugly sweater party was a huge success. I wasn’t sure if I had the players to get a cash game going, but it turned out that I got a solid 8 regulars and had a great cash game.

Again, I totally suck at remembering to get pictures.

This was after everyone went home and my basement was back to normal.

The spread was great and the adult beverages were fantastic. Good times had by all.

Hosting NL Hold'Em and Omaha cash game tonight. Super excited again. Should be a solid spread and good drinks.

I hope this time I remember to get pictures.

On another note, my hanging chip cabinet is about to get shipped from @alecnetwoodworks (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/8124/) so a bunch of pictures will be posted once it arrives and it is hung on my wall.

The poker room uses a mob motif, so several Vegas casino chips displayed in the scene have connections to the Chicago skim, alongside my three favorite gambling spots that are now closed: Trump Taj Mahal, Monte Carlo, and most recently The Mirage.

So a background on the chips on display...

The top row are my two favorite places to play in Vegas. My first time to Vegas, my parents took me when I was 12. Stayed at the Mirage. Saw Siegfried and Roy. Cool as hell.

My dad was comped at Monte Carlo for a few years so when I went with him, we stayed there. Very underrated. I stayed at The Mirage when I wasn't staying at Monte Carlo. Now both gone.

The $25 and $100 Mirage chips I harvested myself the last time I played there, in October. Sad to see it go.

The second row was my go to place when I lived in New Jersey. I pretty much lived in that poker room on the every other weekend that I wasn't working. Really loved that place. The poker room, now a theatre, and the Trump Taj Mahal long gone.

The third row is a mix of Trump Taj Mahal, and other Atlantic City casinos, either still around, or gone.

The 4th row has a lot of history to it, especially the theme of the poker room.

All the chips on the 4th row are from long closed casinos with mob ties involving the Kansas City and Chicago skim (for anyone who saw the move Casino, the Stardust was the epicenter of the skim, portrayed in the move as the fictional Tangiers).

Desert Inn, Dunes, Fremont, Hacienda, Sands, Stardust, and the still open Tropicana, though likely not for much longer.

Fremont, Hacienda, Stardust, and Tropicana were the big 4 casinos involved in the illegal mob activities.

The last row consists of some of my own CPC creations, defunct Las Vegas casinos, and the remaining chips, currently active Las Vegas casinos (some with mob ties, mainly in the construction loans, such as Circus Circus, and The Flamingo).

It was a lot of fun to try to track down all these chips for the display.

TomC727Shark418 posts
Posted Feb 22, 2023, 3:17 AM#271

Pretty much finished.

The latest additions include several different Flamingo Margaritaville Casino chips, along with a couple of older Circus Circus chips. They sit next to each other on the bottom row. They remain open but have strong mob associations.

Other recent additions are Sands, Stardust, Thunderbird, El Rancho, a few new AC chips from shuttered casinos, and Castaway.

For reference:

Bottom row, left to right: Closed Vegas casinos without mob ties, Circus Circus, Flamingo, Open Vegas casinos.

Second from bottom row: Every Vegas casino on this row is closed, except Tropicana and Fremont. Heavy mob ties is the theme of this row.

Left to right - Desert Inn, Dunes, El Rancho, Hacienda, Sands, Stardust, Tropicana. The Stardust was the focal point of the Kansas City and Chicago mob skim, along with Hacienda, Tropicana, and Fremont.

Middle row - AC chips. Left to right: Trump Taj Mahal, other Trump casinos, closed AC casinos, and currently open AC casinos.

Top row - My 2 favorite Vegas casinos, both gone: Mirage (soon to be) and Monte Carlo.

Second from top - My other favorite place to play: Trump Taj Mahal.

So I think I have some form of OCD on the amount of reorganization of things I do.

I really simplified each shelf this time to squeeze in more chips.

Top shelf - My 3 all time favorite places to play. All gone.

Second shelf - Trump Casinos, mainly a large collection of Trump Taj Mahal, along with chips from his other casinos.

Third shelf - The Mob skim. Fremont, Hacienda, Marina, Stardust, and Tropicana. I included The Sands because of the history of The Rat Pack and mob ties.

4th shelf. The ends are mainly long gone Las Vegas Casinos, many with rich histories. Aladdin, Desert Inn, Dunes, El Rancho, and Thunderbird to name a few. In the middle are the two remaining casinos with heavy mob ties. Circus Circus was built with mob loans, and Tony Spilotro ran a gift shop there as a front to supervise the skim at the other casinos, and Flamingo, which goes without saying.

Bottom shelf - Left side is dead AC casinos. Middle is at least one chip from all Las Vegas Strip casinos, and right side are current operating AC casinos.

I really have been enjoying researching the history of the old Vegas resorts and what sits at their locations now.

So I've wanted to plan a big 25-30 seat NL Hold 'Em tourney in the next couple months. I can fit 18 with my current set up and I also have a backup oval table top that I can put up, which will hold another 10.

Well, I got to thinking. I want something better than a table top for an option.

So...

I'm about to order another 108" table from Pharaoh Manufacturing built to match my current 108". This one will have folding legs so it will be easily stored when not in use. Super excited about this.

I was going to add more chairs but I found out from Pharaoh that the chair manufacturer has changed, and the gray is a different shade, so I'm going to hold off on the chairs since they will stick out since they won't match my current ones.

I regret going with the 108”. I should have gone with the 96”. It’s so huge, I can’t store it vertically on the wall.

Literally the only place I could find to store it was strangely enough, on the wall in my gym. I took it out of the box, brought it down to my basement, then realized that the box protects it the best.

And by the way, no one should ever order the $100 48x108 bag from American Gaming Supply. Total crap. The zippers literally ripped opening up the bag. I’m waiting on a response from my email requesting a refund.

A few changes in my music room. I added some pieces and removed others...

TomC727Shark418 posts

So regarding the subtractions...

I currently have two orders pending at the DW factory in Oxnard, CA.

The larger order is a custom set. Massive. 15 month waiting period. The original ETA was 12 months, then 15. I just received an update that it’s still at 15 months for delivery. ETA September.

The smaller order was based on the pictured set.

I purchased this set as a 4 piece shell kit (for non‑drummers, this means it does not include a snare, only the 4 drums — 2 toms, 1 floor tom, and the bass drum). I ordered a matching snare and a smaller floor tom when I bought it. I was notified by the factory that they were ready to build my matching snare and floor tom, and they requested I send them a drum for color matching.

Long story short, one of the toms was subtracted and shipped to California for color matching. Super excited.

The subtle addition, though the more important, is the set of bongos in the background. The bongos are a custom color and were shipped last week. This is a big deal, because there is also a set of congas being built with the same matching color scheme, that should be arriving in the next month.

For anyone not following this thread... These drums were ordered over a year ago, so this is exciting to finally start receiving some of the custom orders.

The other addition, is the drum pad. There was a lot of research and YouTube video watching by me, but I decided to jump in the multi drum pad pool. The band I play with will absolutely benefit from it, and I won't have to carry all the odds and ends to play at practice, or a gig (cowbells, congas, bongos, tambourines, timbales, cajon, maracas, etc.). Instead of carrying all the individual percussion instruments, they are all stored in the multi drum pad.

To be quite honest, for someone who has played only acoustic for my musical life, it's more complicated than the tax code on the capabilities, but I've been able to pick up info here and there.

Dig seeing pics of the music room too. Very cool!

Hopefully the regular games pick back up. Probably, just that time of year when people are traveling and have stuff going on.

Absolutely right.

I didn't realize it last year, but notice it now, that the summer slows the regular games down. Travel, summer stuff, and just general busyness decreases the regular games.

Hopefully my July or August (more likely) opens up.

Not sure I mentioned it, but the tournament I showed above had a far smaller turnout than I anticipated. I suspect that if it were held in the fall instead of late spring, attendance would roughly double.

And additional details about that current custom drum set with the September ETA.

I might have the chance to visit the factory while the kit is being finished.

If that pans out, and I can schedule the visit in September, I could fly into LAX to tour the factory, then drive to Vegas for a long weekend, and afterward return home (Tours are only offered on Thursdays).

For any musicians that follow this...

I was able to travel out to Ft. Wayne, IN and visit the home of Sweetwater. Unbelievable place. I got a tour from my sales guy and got to meet their drum guru, Nick D'Virgilio. Fantastic guy. Extremely friendly. The best way to describe Sweetwater, is the Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/?tag=amznpcfx-20) of music, and a retail store the size of Bass Pro Shops.

My trip was for the purpose of buying a big set of drum mics and a mixer. I have only set up the drums, no overheads yet, and their sound blows me away. A lot of fun to play with in-ears and be able to hear the drums.

Update about the music room.

There was an error on the invoices and my drum set was not arriving at the store, but rather one of the snare drums. The good news is below.

The Cherry/Mahogany set is currently in the coloring department at DW, so it should arrive earlier than the September ETA.

One of my final custom snare drum orders was delivered a couple of days ago. It sounds fantastic.

Thanks, never noticed it before so was curious, it blends right in.

@Tonysquander (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/12596/) Yours is done a little bit different since we went with black locks that blend in pretty well. Used a knob in the center and offset the lock. Bit trickier to do it that way with nickel locks and knobs, so instead I worked to hide the handle and highlight the lock.

@Tonysquander (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/12596/) Mine was done slightly differently since we chose black locks that blend in quite well. I used a centered knob and placed the lock off to the side. It’s a bit more complicated to do that with nickel locks and knobs, so instead I tried to conceal the handle and emphasize the lock.

No worries @alecnetwoodworks (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/8124/), I adore how mine turned out and how well it matches the stand, so great call on your hardware choices and installation — I’m really excited to see mine in person. I simply hadn’t noticed that piece on Tom’s before.

Background…

I’ve been a major Jimmy Buffett fan since I was 12. I talked my parents into taking me to see his concert in ‘96, and I’ve seen him every year since.

When he died, I decided to go on a last minute Key West trip to visit his old haunts.

I stumbled upon a music and movie memorabilia shop on Duval Street and found a signed Jimmy Buffett lyrics page. Immediately bought it.

While the manager was doing the paperwork, while browsing in the store, I found The Godfather collage.

So — if anyone is thinking about switching up their events...

I usually feature a drink of the night. For most of my poker-only evenings, my crowd typically drinks bourbon, beer, or one of my barrel-aged cocktails (Maple Old-Fashioned, Coffee Old-Fashioned, and Tiki Time Old-Fashioned — rum-based with Falernum and Chinese 5-spice). If I open the night to family and friends who don't normally play cards, I tend to prepare 3 cocktails with a holiday motif (summer, Halloween, Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, etc.) that I make in batches.

As a tip of the hat to Jimmy Buffett, I decided to batch up a Key West umbrella drink that’s the signature cocktail of a dive bar at Disney's Old Key West Resort.

Absolutely SPECTACULAR!!!!!

Anyone who’s been to that resort will probably recognize it.

Cocktail — Turtle Krawl

  • 1oz Bacardi (or any light rum)

  • 0.5oz Dark rum (I prefer Plantation, but Sailor Jerry or another dark rum works)

  • 0.5oz Malibu (or any coconut rum)

  • 2oz Orange juice, 2oz Pineapple juice

  • 1/4oz Key lime juice, 1/4oz Grenadine

Mix in a pitcher, stir, and add ice.

The absolutely critical ingredient is the Key lime juice. I’ve made it with the bottled supermarket stuff before — total junk.

This batch used Kermit’s Key Lime Juice, the famous real-deal place in Key West. It made all the difference.

I was amazed that a bunch of my regulars not only drank 1 pitcher, but I had to make another.

Since the shuffle tech cabinet is discontinued and it will be months before the redesign is released, I decided to go to Ikea and buy one and do it myself.

Absolute pain in the ass.

For anyone who has worked with a shuffle tech flush mount or cutting Ikea wood, you have to cut the short sides of the flush mount st a 45 degree angle. Torture.

Promptly ruined the first cabinet top with the wrong cut, and had to go back to Ikea to pick up another. Second time, got it right.

The cabinet is cheap, but also too big. It's 23" deep, which to me, is 6" too much, so I have a message into @alecnetwoodworks (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/8124/) to get a ballpark estimate on a custom one that matches my poker chip cabinets, and is 17" deep x 14" wide.

Another plan of mine is to better sound insulate the inside to decrease the noise of the shuffler. I'll probably use some foam and pillows on the top shelf to decreased the noise level.

And because buying drum sets is like chip buying, you never can have enough, though on a much larger scale, I bought another DW set 3 months ago. Jazz Series ( considered the most versatile of all DW Collector‘s Series wood types). ETA was 6 months from the order.

Well, I received the email that it was complete last week, and will be arriving sometime next week.

For anyone who wants to know the wood types of drums and the intricacies, the original jazz series wood type was developed by Gretsch back in the 40’s and 50’s. For any music people here, Gretsch may be the most widely played brand amongst professional drummers in the world. To name a few who play Gretsch - Charlie Watts (Rolling Stones), Chris Fryar (Zac Brown Band), Phil Collins, Taylor Hawkins (Foo Fighters), Nic Collins, etc.

The wood shell formula of Gretsch is a Maple and Gumwood ply shell. Again, this formula dates back to the 40’s and 50’s. It is extremely versatile, so other companies have copied. Pearl and DW to name a few. It is such a versatile wood type that a lot of rock drummers play this shell, including Todd Sucherman ( Styx Drummer - Pearl Maple/Gumwood) and Roger Guth (Jimmy Buffett - DW Jazz Series).

Long story short - The DW Jazz Series wood shell type is a Maple/Gumwood, pretty much the same as the Gretsch shell. I was torn between a Gretsch USA Custom (maple/gumwood) or a DW Jazz Series (Maple/Gumwood). I went with the DW. Slightly cheaper and better build quality.

This set is a smaller configuration for, hopefully, future gigs.

Pics to follow when it arrives.

Sorry for getting into the weeds on drums.

Big multi-table tournament in the works for February.

Thinking about a $100 buy in with optional add on of another $100. Hopping for at least 25 players.

TomC727Shark418 posts
Posted Jan 18, 2024, 4:22 AM#428

So I have been working on the tournament structure calculations for the upcoming deep stack for 2/10.

My plan is $100 with a starting stack of 30k, and an optional one-time add-on of 30k in chips for another $100. The add-on will only be permitted up to one hour into the tournament (3 rounds).

Based on the last turnout for a $200 buy-in, lowering the buy-in to $100 should, in theory, attract more players. I discussed this with my regulars and they all agreed that a $100 tournament will boost turnout.

Really looking forward to breaking out the massive extra poker table. The spread is going to be insane.

GetUrShineBoxMicro-Stakes Grinder12 posts
Posted Jan 18, 2024, 3:17 PM#429

You might want to "trick" the system and make the add-ons $50 for $20k chips. Those who didn't want to pay $200 might ante up the extra $50 once there and enjoying themselves. They might also be receptive to a deal because they perceive more bang for their buck. I would think the way you have it now will discourage people since half the field might simply pay $200 up front and begin with 60k in chips, and those unwilling to spend $200 will feel at a significant disadvantage.

There may be a compromise.

Solid 20 player event. 2 full tables. I drew garbage and was eliminated early. I wound up joining a good cash game that ran until about 5:30am. Fantastic food spread and everyone had a great time. I got my ass handed to me but it was still really fun. Completely forgot to snap any pictures.

Tonight, had a single table cash game. 10 players. 1/2 NL Hold ‘Em. Again. Fun was had by all. After some huge stack swings, I’m happy to report a $50 profit. Again, food spread and drinks were fantastic and fun was had by all.

And I completely suck at getting pictures.

For the collector cabinet additions, I added a few Tropicana chips, $1, $5, and $25, along with two $25 Flamingo Margaritaville Casino chips. I'm still looking for the ever elusive $100 Flamingo Margaritaville Casino chip.

With the closure of the Tropicana, this leaves Circus Circus and Flamingo for major mob ties on the strip, though all the casinos associated with the Chicago skim are now officially gone. The only one remaining off the strip is Fremont in Downtown Vegas.

Wow nice room! I wish I'd been this into poker when I lived in Chicago, settled @ North & Western

Although ngl... I was a Cubbies fan, I moved to Southport when they were absolute dogshit and I loved going to games for $10 and sitting anywhere. I'd cut out of work and get a scalped ticket, no one checked tickets down to the bottom sections. Can't do that anymore, plus Wrigley is not as nice anymore. Ever since they stopped selling Old Style ...

Fully table last night. Some of the biggest action I’ve seen at the table, including a double board bomb pot $5 PLO.

Food was great, drinks were on point, and one of our regulars got engaged that night to one of my work partners, so we FaceTimed him and toasted him after it went down (lot of planning went into it, including her family coming in from out of town without her knowing). We all told him that we will let him slide for missing poker because of the getting engaged excuse.

I’ve been neglecting my posts here. I haven’t had a home game in more than a month due to hectic work hours, but I do have a funny anecdote.

And more details on the chip display.

I added a few more Tropicana newest-edition chips, plus a Terry Fator Mirage chip. I was able to pay my respects to The Mirage last month while I was in town — my all-time favorite resort and casino in Las Vegas. It’s a shame to see it close on 7/17.

I stayed there on a family vacation when I was 12, and I got to see Siegfried and Roy. I stayed there many times over the years, including taking my then 70 some-year-old grandmother on an epic road trip to Vegas, then to the Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Yellowstone, and Mount Rushmore.

Like the rest of Las Vegas, nostalgia doesn’t stop the wrecking ball.

This is my new shuffletech cart from @alecnetwoodworks (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/8124/). It’s derived from the inexpensive IKEA cart some people on this forum have used, but reduced to a slimmer profile and finished to coordinate with my poker chip furniture.

The unusual cup holders exist because the base needed to be 2.5” or less to fit on the cart. They’re designed to be very secure and usable.

This set has a very special meaning. Thank you @timinater (https://www.pokerchipforum.com/members/2713/) for bringing it to reality.

The Dugout has been a nickname for my basement bar and poker room since its creation, but the poker room section of my basement has been known as Anthony T. C..... Memorial Poker Room for the past couple years, in memory of my late father.

My father gets the credit for the poker room design. While standing in my unfinished basement with the designer and contractor, he was the one that said that this space was perfect for a poker room, and not a lounge area, that I had planned. He died before he was ever able to play in it.

My father owned, at one time, the largest professional fireworks display company in the United States. It was a family business that was brought over from Italy in the early 1900's.

The chip design is based on the business. Both the company logos are incorporated into the chip design, with the $1 and $25 being the two company logo colors. The $5 chip is based on my favorite firework show picture, Chicago lakefront years ago. The $100 color scheme is based on a finale of a fireworks show, with multiple colored fireworks in the air.

The company was sold when my dad died in 2021, so it is no longer in the family.

Hope everyone enjoys.

Awesome poker night last night. We had a bigger turnout than expected, huge pots, and excellent food and drinks. Everyone had a blast.

Organizing a multi-table tournament for next month.

I only managed to take a few photos.

Great crowd showed up last night. 14. Two full tables of cash games. I got crushed and didn’t win a thing, but everyone had a blast.

Funny tale about my shuffle tech failing on me....

TomC727Shark418 posts
Posted Dec 28, 2025, 8:07 PM#558

So a few hours into playing, the shuffle tech at on my table quit working (each table had its own shuffle tech running). Dead. It turned out the outlets on one side of my basement had tripped a breaker and I had to reset it. Before I realized it was the breaker, I opened the shuffle tech cabinet and checked the cord. All good, the cord was still plugged into the shuffle tech.

Getting to the breaker isn’t easy. I have to go into my music room, move some items and a shelf away from the door that hides the breakers, then put everything back.

I flipped the breaker, the shuffle tech powered back on, and everything seemed fine, except I’d lost a deck of cards. I tore my basement apart looking for it. Back into the music room, the bathroom, the storage room, behind the bar. My other players were just as confused as about where the deck had disappeared to.

I gave up and opened a new deck so we could keep playing.

Both tables use shuffle techs, but after that my table’s unit began jamming. After each shuffle, I had to hold both buttons to make the deck return to the top. Painful, but I kept doing it and planned to clean it later.

Fast forward to today and it was still doing the same thing. I cleaned the rollers, used compressed air inside, and finally removed the flush mount. What did I find...

The missing deck was in the side tray.

When I checked the power cord earlier, I had accidentally flipped the switch from flush mount to side tray, and the jamming happened because the shuffled cards couldn’t be deposited into the side tray since another deck was in there.

Epic fail on my part for not noticing I’d flipped the switch.

Everything is fine with the shuffle tech now.

Sorry for the long post.

Great night was had. I took a monster pot later in the night that put me up quite nicely. 11 players so we kept it at one table. Not bad.

Tacos were fantastic. Drinks were flowing. Only took one pic the entire night.

Good times had by all.

May I ask why there are so many dealer buttons? Are they for multi-table tournaments or just to offer a wide selection?

Can I ask why so many dealer buttons? For MTT's or just like having lots of options?

Love The Dugout.

I think ordering a specific amount saved me a little money in design fees.

Thanks for putting this thread together over the years, it's really interesting to see how The Dugout came to be. I also appreciate you sharing a bit of your other hobbies as well and love how you've brought it all together.

I'm still just starting out my chipper journey but hoping to have a place like yours one day. The CPC set you put together commemorating your father and his life's work is really inspiring as well, I lost my father about 2 years ago now and can relate to trying to put those memories and feelings into something fun and meaningful. Mostly I'm grateful for PCF for showing some really creative works of art and for sharing the stories that have gone into the design - and reading through the history of The Dugout really encapsulates all of that for me.

Keep up the great work!

Next poker is 5/16.

In the meantime, I was in Vegas for a conference. I ate a lot, drank, caught up with old friends, and donated at the blackjack table at the plaza (I refuse to play on the Strip).

The photo is from this past Sunday.

The next gig is 5/15 and poker night 5/16.

So off topic of poker, but on topic for The Dugout...

I ended up meeting the owner of the largest drum case company in the world, Humes & Berg. Happened to meet him while picking up an order from the headquarters in East Chicago, IN. Since then, he has built me a ton of custom cases to match different drum sets and drums of mine. Went above and beyond, even putting name tags on my cases. Literally treats me like a touring musician.

He recently built a huge custom case set for one of my drum sets, which I got to pick up last week. Pics don't do it justice. The only thing he requested was for me to get a pic of all the cases he has built for me, so here is the pic...

Not related to The Dugout but related to the music on here...

I just got home from a 10 day trip to Key West to celebrate their favorite son and toast to his memory, Jimmy Buffett. This was the third year of the celebration of Labor Day.

Well, last year I ended up playing 3 weekends down their with a local band.

I didn't think this could be topped.

Nope. Very Wrong!!!!

I played two nights with a local guitar player that I know

Another afternoon gig with Cliff Cody, a local singer/songwriter who is up for 5 awards this year at the two rock awards, including best song and best album, with the best pedal steal player on the island. Just an amazing gig. Cliff Cody has a massive connection to Jimmy Buffett. He was the last album ever recorded at Jimmy Buffett's studio, Shrimpboat Sound, before is closed.

I didn't think I could top this, but nope. I was invited to close the event Monday night playing for a legendary songwriter and writer of Jimmy Buffett's largest hit from his new album, and a calling card for his memory after he died, Bubbles Up. Will Kimbrough is now a member of Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band, and an amazing human being. I still feel like I'm dreaming. Pics to come.

Massive turnout with a total of 22 players for the tournament. The bounties were wildly popular.

After being down the first 2 hours of the event, I started pulling horseshoes out of my backside to reach the final two and become the overall chip leader. We opted to chop rather than spend hours heads-up.

Absolutely fantastic night. Food and drinks were excellent. Great company. Incredible turnout.

Hope to run another tournament, possibly between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
