Feels like GG has screwed up a lot lately with huge rake hikes, banning players who were winning, and now hackers basically being able to see opponents' cards (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kMXNbTX... Is it acceptable to accept massive... See full post

Jason Koon, who supposedly sits on the "anti-cheating council" or whatever, in my view bears far more responsibility than DNegs in this situation.

Cliffs Notes on his resolutions:

  • Enter fewer events.
  • Prioritize focus over gambling.
  • Put in more effort.
  • Stop chasing WSOP POTY. (!!!) All of these seem like beneficial changes for him. It appears he realized that the nonstop POTY grind harmed his results, especially since POTY is a hollow accolade. You don't even win a truck anymore!

Daniel's poker pedigree speaks for itself as fifth on the all time tournament cash list with a career spanning decades. He and Hellmuth are the only guys from the original high stakes poker that still appear in high stakes televised cash games. If Amanda didn't want fame, she wouldn't have been a poker reporter.

Dwan JRB Robl and I'm sure some others. DN sure but Helmuth min buys in super soft games.

Yea POTY is a joke for many reasons. I'm amazed Deeb cares so much about it. He should also add don't get hustled by HU NL specialists to play HU NL at a massive disadvantage although maybe that was 2022.

DNegs states in the new video that he must be more humble and put in more effort, then right after declares he doesn't care what any of us think or say and insists he knows best. The whole video is full of contradictory statements.

DNegs says in the new vid that he needs to be more humble and put in the work, then immediately claims he doesn't care what any of us think or say, that he knows best. Very contradictory messaging throughout the video.

It's pretty clear how far above EV he's played in poker that ordinary swings somehow surprise him. Also amusing that he has to torch 2.2 mil and break even over 3 years to realize entering every possible event and firing multiple bullets like a maniac is a terrible approach. I mean dropping from 25ks to 500 dollar events is pretty hilarious. He's definitely won at life though.

You do receive a Main Event entry with POTY, but I feel that awarding it to a relatively unknown player whose claim is mainly online results reduces its prestige.

WSOP should re-evaluate POTY and make it a more attractive title worth pursuing. Right now it’s mainly a prestige accolade with banner value, which DNegs really covets, a lot, but he’s finally acknowledged his game isn’t built for the pursuit. Still, I think WSOP should treat winning POTY like the PGA treats a major: the POTY should receive something like a 5 or even 10 year “exemption” into the Main. Also, the flimsy online events shouldn’t count, or should count only minimally in my view.

DogFaceRegular36 posts

Online bracelets are fake bracelets IMO, not that bracelets really mean much anyway. I used to be in the trance of the WSOP branding, but tournaments are just tournaments. Winning some 200 person mixed variant at the WSOP isn't more impressive than winning a 1,500 player field at the Wynn even though one is a bracelet and one isn't. The old players like Doyle and Chip prioritized money over bracelets until bracelets became the metric of a player's worth, but it feels like they had it right in the first place. Judging players primarily by their bracelets, rings, and "WSOP cashes" is just feeding into the Caesars marketing. Negreanu ditching the POTY rat race feels like an epiphany that it's not worth the time/energy/money just to have your picture on the wall. I think a part of him wanted to have "most WSOP POTY in history" locked down as his Hellmuth-like claim to tangible WSOP history, but he had enough self-awareness to realize the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. As for Deeb, he was a volume beast of epic proportions back in the heyday of pre-BF online grinding. You'd see him in the big buy-ins all the way down to the measly $3+R where scrubs like myself existed. I'd venture to guess that around 2009 or 2010, Deeb had played more total MTTs than just about anyone on the planet. He seemed to genuinely love the grind, so it's actually not surprising that his propensity for insane volume has translated to the live realm.

WSOP should re-evaluate POTY, and make it a more juicy title worth chasing. Right now it’s just a prestige thing with banner equity, which DNegs really wants, like a lot, but he’s finally realized his game isn’t suited for the chase. They're in a tricky spot because it's either: A.) Make it about quantity over quality (in which case it's primarily a bankroll competition). B.) Make it about quality over quantity (in which case it's primarily about who sun runs in the big spots that year). You can try to find a balance in the middle, but I'm not sure it's possible in a 6-7 week festival to devise a formula for who played the best. I think GPI POTY is the closest thing to a world championship in tournament poker, and even that still feels like a glorified rungood meter after 12 months of results. Poker doesn't lend itself well to this type of honor. Too hard to separate the signal from the noise.

All bracelets are just marketing. They don’t hold real prestige or significance. Some guy has one from the 70s for taking down a 2 player event. You can win a 10000 percent 500 dollar cluster **** or beat some 100 person high roller and both hand out bracelets, so what’s the difference. It’s not like earning an MVP or Cy Young award.

2024 I'm going to be humble. Same guy: Nobody other than I know why I lost in 2023.

I just ran bad. Same guy: Playing straight up gamble blind shove poker is good for the rest of you. But I don't do that with other people's money :/

The lack of self awareness is striking with this guy. It's a good thing he makes money away from the tables. What would have been really persuasive relative to the "I don't need unsolicited advice" BS would have been, "I'm working with a coach to review where my leaks are and how to plug them" because it's glaringly obvious that he has massive leaks and were it not for making quads against aces full last year, he'd be down $5 million in two years. Is he better than most of us? Sure. Is he world class? Right now, not close.

Yeah, he could hire some great coaches with his $s. Also, might be good to try playing online NLHE and PLO cash and see what level he could beat. Play SNGs and MTTSNGs and learn about playing a short stack. Also, might be good to start and 5/5 or so and see what level of live NLHE and PLO he can beat. He could also cut out the high rollers and do fine. No question he can crush $1500 tournaments in any game.

Good for him being upfront about his losses. But there's a lot to unpack. What made me laugh in his review was showing a "cash percentage" of 29%. It reads like a reassuring figure that supports his claim that "I ran poorly in the high rollers, which is the main reason I lost so much this year." He does note that the percentage is inflated by multiple re-entries in each event, but that point is only brushed over before he moves on. In truth, his cash percentage is likely closer to 10%, which is a very poor rate for a pro competing in 150+ events.

The only genuine WSOP bracelet is a live brick and mortar bracelet won in the state of Nevada. That said, DNegs hasn't won a genuine, born in the USA bracelet since 2008. He has literally had thousands of entries since then, and has come up empty every time. That said, Daniel has definitely won in the game of life.

From https://www.worldpokertour.com/news/dani... (https://www.worldpokertour.com/news/daniel-negreanu-posts-2-2m-loss-for-2023-eyes-changes-for-2024/) Among the results, Negreanu also logged the most volume he’s had in years, citing 145 tournaments — by far the largest number of events he’s played in a single year over the past decade and, he says, possibly in his career. He cashed in 39 events (~27%), although Negreanu doesn’t track how many entries he bought for a specific event, only whether he cashed.

Poker was so much easier back then so I do believe it. Also he gets extra reads by talking to people which not many other players do and hes very good at it but this tactic has lost a lot of its magic in modern poker because back then a lot of people didnt understand tells even existed. Poker has gotten way harder in the last 10 years so what he says fits fine.

For some of that period, he was grinding low-mid stakes tournaments. That is different from playing high rollers. Most grinders are upset if they have a loosing month. It is like having a losing year playing 2/5 NL.

I believe it. People were atrocious for basically all of those 20 years and for a lot of those 20 years he was clearly a world class player and actually grinding hard to win. Idiots like Mike Matusow and TJ Cloudier were crushers back then. I think he's a massive dog in high rollers. But they didn't even exist 10+ years ago. He's one of the few people from 10-20 years ago who isn't completely washed out breaking even etc who can at least still compete today. If you look through Hendons of a lot of guys from back then they still play a lot but basically play small and only have min cashes. 15 years ago they'd have multiple 6 figure scores each year. A bunch of Humberto Brenes types who DN was way better than .

Those of you saying his % cash is about 10% So he would have to have more re entries then entries. Does he have that many. More than 150 re entries?

He definitely has more reentries than entries. He has 2 entries literally almost every event. He frequently has 3+ entries. He even says so himself in another part of the vlog "People say its unfair that I have multiple entries. Yes I have 2-3-4 entries" (the way he says it implies even 4 entries is common for him). It wasnt like that this year but one of the years he was chasing POTY he had literally 15+ entries in an unlimited reentry tournament. Also funny that he says in relation to this - "but its not unfair that I have more entries, because I am often negative EV in my first bullets - you should be happy Im adding money to the field" - literally admitting that hes very often randomly punting to try to build a stack. While at the same time claiming that "running bad" is his main enemy. Lol. The people buying at 1.0 markup are getting ripped off because hes viewing those first bullets as worthless, and not paying out on wins from reentries. My 10% number was based on what I think is a fairly fair estimation that he has about 3 entries on average. Maybe he is closer to 12% but seriously doubt its higher than that.

AFAIK the Poker Go studio events are rake free for entries that show up at the start of level 1, and Dnegs does like to show up on time so he probably has quite a few rake free entries, minus rebuys of course.

It isn't quite as bad as it appears. Obviously, I'm playing for a 3-bet before the flop. I think it's unlikely my opponent holds a J, since there are only 2 Js remaining, and they might have raised preflop with a J.

sure, calling on the turn is the stronger choice, but if the opponent is drawing more frequently than usual it could be acceptable. it isnt a disastrous line or the worst way to handle the hand.

Seems like people here are being results oriented. Maybe not good play, but DN figured his opponent didn't have a J and was trying to bluff him. It is easier to see how bad it is when you know his opponent's hole cards. Obviously, DN should have folded to the raise because his opponent had trips.

heavy volume over my lifetime. since covid low volume, no online poker since 2009. the losing/breakeven years were medium volume in 2002-3ish and super high volume in 2008-9ish. Both times it was because i ran bad in the biggest games i played that year (low volume spots that just popped up) and couldn't make it up in the smaller ones.

The flop was JJT, so he flopped the gutshot and overcards. The turn was a 4. He had a pretty strong hand on the flop, only in trouble versus a J. Opponent is very unlikely to have TT-AA checking 2nd to act preflop. Preflop and flop seem OK. Turn semibluff may be questionable. Don't see how it is played that terribly. If opponent didn't have J and folded turn, it would look really good.

Putting yourself into that spot with AK by playing it as he did is bad however you put it. When you are in a spot where you are jamming to fold out hands you already beat and get snap called by everything else which has you drawing dead ish it cant be a good play. V is on so much Jx in that node after limp/x back pre and x/r flop.

Yeah, I agree I don't like the push, but preflop and flop were reasonable. It makes a difference that the flop was JJT rather than JJ4x, as initially reported ITT. AK is pretty strong on JJT.

It was a terrible play no need to explain this any further to a guy who cant even get the action right (noone checked ak preflop). Reminds me of some players i sometimes play private micro tournaments with, trying to trap with AK by limping and when the trap does not work they still cant find a fold or start to bluff on boards that perfectly hit the checking range of BB/limping range of other players at the table. Just lol. I actually think preflop is pretty bad too since players tend to defend pretty wide HU and Ak is definitely a hand u want to build a pot at this moment and not let ur opponent see a free flop. Yes u can maybe make an argument that the other guy was short and probably DN thought he will shove on his limp but still...

deuceblockerShark101 posts

I executed the action correctly. The other person misremembered the flop. It was JJT4Q, not JJ4TQ. DN limped preflop, clearly intending to shove. Facing the turn shove, I suppose DN didn't want to be forced off the nut-without-a-pair on the river, thinking that could play well. He could fold on the turn, call the turn and call the river, or call the turn and fold the river if he didn't improve. He may have believed he had 10 outs. It was a tough spot on the turn. DN might have checked back the flop and likely would have done so if the board had been JJ4 rather than JJT.

But like you didn't realize this when he said increasing the rake was good for the game. I will never understand how any serious poker player can accept that statement, because its false. At the same time Daniel is Mr Morality, calling out Howard, Ferguson, Duke. Mr police man with high level of integrity. Until like you said when its his money effected, then he's Mr Politician as Phil Hellmuth calls him. Which basically means he's trash. I mean do you guys play poker. That's part of the reason GG brought him on: he argued that higher rake benefits Stars. He will defend their fee structure no matter how absurd. That's a portion of what he, Koons, and others are compensated to do.

The rake topic has been hashed as much as what to tip a Dealer. As with anything you need to know 'why' and what the results of said why are going to have in the long run. Most assume that it just means more profit for the site and those that rep it. If that rake was going to actually grow the game then we can speculate on the impact on the game/site in whole. If you go status quo .. losing players will lose, then run out of money and disappear. Then winning players are left to battle it out in zero sum worlds .. or they just don't play. No more rake .. no more site. If the rake was used on freerolls or rakeback, sign-up bonuses or other promotional events then we can hope it keeps the losing players active longer and brings in new players. All this can very easily be crap with no follow through and I'm in no position to judge if that's what did, or would, happen. What I do know is dragging up these skeletons at these opportune times kind of dilutes the current topic. Can they show a pattern? Sure .. but the context of those comments is well covered .. Did it happen and what did the site follow through with? With GG .. I'd like to see both DN and Koon make comments on the issue. But I also think the site jumped right in and took action. If they previously knew and didn't do anything then we have a scandal. If they were dragging feet then we definitely should be looking to Pros to step up with statements. I'd hate to see either of them up and go the 'ongoing investigation' route with comments that make them look like company puppets. GL

answer20Regular36 posts
Posted Jan 10, 2024, 4:10 PM#68

My point as well .. 'scandal' can only come into play if they knew and did nothing 'right away' and/or the User was internal. It's very possible that they are still tracking down the User. To label this a scandal is a pretty good watering down of the term. I'd love to see 'the committee' (Koon is on, correct?) be the ones to come out with GG when they can offer a somewhat comprehensive report. Not looking for tech stuff so someone else can try to do it .. just some general stuff with the User's Identity (pending investigation/legal action). GL PS .. What is in the fine print when you sign up for an online account? Is there anything related to moral/ethical/fraud/software manipulation or anything else that might lead to the criminal side rather than the civil side of the courts?

Why did Daniel got kicked out of Pokerstars? Does somebody here knows? If I ask google it says “we had to take different life paths”, which is obviously a politically correct bullshit. Specially when Daniel just did a quarter rotation and went to GG poker, it’s not like he went for a different life path. Something happened!

have not watched any of the recent videos so could be mistaken but... lol at saying amanda doesn't want to be on camera she literally chose a low paying career in a niche industry (thus limited upside) that granted exposure to being on camera - you don't do that kind of thing unless you want to be on camera she dated and then married a man who's primary source of income is being a public figure her protests are mostly a combination of trying to appear humble and also preferring to only be on camera after she's done her hair and makeup or under better lighting/camera angle (she without a doubt will know things like it gives the appearance of a double chin when you lay in bed with head on a pillow hence why she never wanted to be filmed there etc etc) i mean we're talking about a woman who would bring a step ladder into the poker room with her so when she interviewed people the viewing audience wouldn't realize how short she was but lol at thinking that a woman who voluntarily decides to discuss how she's had multiple boob jobs all paid for by various men on camera is a person who doesn't like to be the center of attention and instead valuees her privacy also what's interesting to me is that they genuinely seem like they are good for each other - they seem to get along, she certainly has embraced the housewife role, and daniel appears absolutely obsessed with her fun fact, now when i watch old poker videos where she is a part of the production, i now notice things i didn't before like how daniel always found excuses to go and spend time talking to her - like there's that one televized game which had a bar that players could go to on break and that's where amanda was to interview them and you'd see daniel suddenly not care so much about playing and want to take a lot of breaks to talk to her for extended periods dutch boyd also appears to have been obsessed and heartbroken by her as well, otherwise it's very difficult to explain the hit piece he did on her in his book that was made to look like a stream of consciously written anecdote and he only just happens to remember the girl's name at the end of the story and thus shared it

Well played by both players — they both understood the situation and allowed it to unfold. What's notable about today's 'high level' poker is how willing they are to discuss it afterward. He recognized she was bluffing; she realized the only path to victory was to stab at the river. He understood it too — and had the courage — to shove because it was the correct and only move to take to win the pot. GL

It was a double‑paired board in a limped pot, so it was likely both players held less than J high, and her value‑betting range was narrow. She erred by not shoving. She couldn’t call a shove while getting something like 6-1. This hand illustrates DN’s strength. I believe he showed, and it was clear she also had to have been bluffing.
