I don't think poker is a viable source of income for a family. You have to come to terms with everything and adapt to the situation.

When I start the game, I just close the door to the room. I explained to the children that I have a job and this job will allow me to buy them presents. They agreed to such a "compromise" 🙂

Ha, try finding a dead chicken in your living room at end of league first break, sit down, hit the mouse by accident and see that you have just put yourself all in with a 72 offsuit....bhahahaha, definitely not ideal at all. But I dont have a quiet house with 4 dogs that are bat sh*t crazy and they never leave the house.

😂 I don't have kids, but I know exactly what you mean about distractions. It only takes a couple of seconds to miss an important decision online. If I'm playing a tournament I really care about, I try to make sure I won't be interrupted. It's much easier to focus when everyone knows it's "poker time." 😄

Unless poker is your main source of income, then you probably just need to accept, that being married with small children will not leave you much time for anything other than work and family for the foreseable future. Maybe you can play an hour or two after tugging the kids to bed, but thats also the time, you should perhaps spend on your wife, if you want to keep your marriage alive.

my dog. When he wants to be fed he will not take 'Just a minute'... "Wait til' next break!" ... or "Not now! I'm in an important hand!!" for an answer. He has a certain pitch to his whine that makes it IMPOSSIBLE to consider doing anything else but tend to his needs.... RFN! (Right eff'n Now!)

Whenever I play, I try to eliminate as many distractions as possible. I like to take care of everything I need to do before I start a session, because those little distractions almost always end up affecting your game, whether you realize it or not. Being able to focus completely on poker usually leads to much better decisions.

If you need to do chores you better not play poker.

Always... the children running, the dogs barking and the neighbor, as always, arriving when no one expects it.

My attempts to sit and play these days usually go this way, I have the mouse in one hand and my Son smearing some food on the screen or demanding we go and do another 85 laps of the garden 🤣 I wouldn't trade it.

I know one thing: when you get distracted and miss a hand, you’ll have been dealt a nice pair of Aces—it always happens.

no distractions here at my home to play

First, family/kids; then a dedicated poker session; and then back to family. Basically, one thing at a time.

Don’t try to become someone who can play perfectly while being interrupted. Instead, structure your poker sessions so that interruptions are unlikely.

everyone says their distracted online when they lose, just another excuse for bad decisions in my view, played enough sports in my life to know that most people don't like to admit they got it wrong and are always looking for a reason to blame anyone but themselves.that's the 1st step in becoming a better player realizing our mistakes and fixing them ,poker can be cruel and for the most part when it is ,it is usually because of how we played that particular hand, when you get your head around that poker becomes much less frustrating😎

I am generally a man from home with family, I often play while my family is at home and that displeases me in a certain way but I try my best to try to have fun and catch some fish.

I'm single, so I don't have that problem with kids or a wife 😂. But I do try to eliminate distractions when I play. I usually close myself in my office and put my phone on airplane mode, so I can focus completely on the game

It happens. So I avoid long tournaments online else a fool is again parted with his buy-in. LOL.

Live game is much better due lesser distractions.

Hey Ian, long time no see....doing well. Still here fighting the dead chickens..lol.

My neighbor has many chickens and occasionally they fly over the fence. My dogs go nuts. The chicken never makes it. Zeus is usually the bugger who brings it in the house. Sadly, the other day, they got a parrot.

Zeus is the black dog and him when he was a puppy.

First of all, being polite when you have visitors close your phone or else, Then talk to them that is all.

For me, the biggest distraction when playing poker at home is definitely my dog. 😄 He always seems to choose the exact moment when I’m in an important hand to come over, ask for attention, or start making noise. It can definitely break my concentration, especially during longer sessions. At the same time, I can’t really complain too much — he’s part of the family. I usually try to play when he’s more relaxed or tired, so I can stay focused and avoid unnecessary distractions.

When I start a poker session I close the room door and set my phone on mute in order to avoid all distractions

I have no choice, its either play with a child hanging off your leg or do not play at all. If you get the chance to play alone cherish it.

Home distractions are one of the biggest challenges when playing online poker (https://www.casino.us/poker/). Phone notifications, TV, family conversations, or even social media can break your concentration and lead to costly mistakes. I try to create a quiet playing environment by silencing my phone, closing unnecessary Apps (https://www.casino.us/poker/mobile/), and avoiding multitasking during sessions. Even a few seconds of lost focus can affect an important decision. For me, treating poker like a serious activity rather than just a casual game helps me stay disciplined and play my best.

I usually try not to play serious poker when there are too many distractions at home, especially during important MTT stages or long cash-game sessions.

Kids and family naturally need attention, and poker requires concentration. One distraction can make you miss an action, time out, or make a costly decision.

For casual games, it's manageable, but for tournaments where you may play for several hours, I prefer to let my family know in advance and play in a quiet environment when possible.

Family comes first, poker comes second—but having a distraction-free setup definitely helps you play your best game.

I definitely have the same problem. When I’m playing, I need to be completely focused, so even small distractions can affect my decisions. I usually try to play when nobody needs anything from me, but that’s not always possible.

Sometimes I think taking a short break is better than continuing to play while being distracted. Losing focus can be more expensive than losing a few minutes of playing time. 😄

Home distractions can definitely affect your decisions without you noticing. I try to keep the environment quiet when playing seriously, because one distracted decision can cost more than a few minutes of concentration.

I really prefer to play alone, but not only because of my concentration on the game, also because friends and even my girlfriend complain that I'm playing poker while I'm with them, and putting myself in their shoes it's really annoying not to pay attention to someone, of course, if you go out with that person, if they come to your house I would say it's more their fault than yours, but anyway, I avoid it so I don't have uncomfortable moments or meaningless betting
