Horrible Wi Fi
I have lost a good amount of real cash due to poor WiFi. This happens more then I would like, I was in a spin and go (https://www.casino.us/poker/strategy/spin-and-go/) for a nice chunk of change and was just about to win and my WiFi goes down. I freaked, this would never happen playing somewhere against real people and friends. Lets say your in a 109 Euro game and your crushing it and your connection goes, you come back and your busted. Hopeless feeling Capo1014

I try, before beginning a session, to remember to perform a quick reboot of the wireless modem — that seems to help somewhat. It still occurs more frequently these days; I suspect the service providers are intentionally throttling speeds so we'll upgrade.

You are not alone man. As you can see in the posts above, most of us had that problem at certain points of time, and definitely not once. It's even much better nowadays as the connection got faster and more reliable. I don't know if you remember DSL and Dial up ! That's when it happened more often and mostly at critical moments. I can't even tell you about the cases for they are so many. Luckily for us now, the connection is more reliable as I said and we have the phones for emergencies...

I play low stakes, so losing my connection wouldn’t be catastrophic.
My best option right now would be to switch to my mobile internet.
But if I were playing higher stakes where a single buy-in exceeds the cost of a second internet connection (which would be something like 15-20$) you can bet I would have a 2nd and probably a 3rd option, along with a better mobile internet and an uninterruptible power supply (UPS).

I already had such cases several times, including with aces in my hands, and on the flop an ace and loss of connection, and due to the fault of the PS.

turning off the light and the Internet is fairly common, if you play poker for real money (https://www.casino.us/poker/), then you need to be ready for the fact that sooner or later you may have to stop for various reasons and you should have a mobile phone with alternative Internet access and poker apps installed so you can quickly reconnect and finish poker tournaments with as minimal loss as possible for you

Hi.
A couple of years ago I ran into this issue a lot. I fixed it simply by adding a second internet line from a different provider. Now the longest it takes me to switch over to the backup line is no more than 20-30 seconds. It does cost extra, but to me it’s worth it.

My fear is being in a big tournament and losing the internet signal due to lack of power or maintenance on the network. It is a hopeless situation. Disconnections are always inconvenient and cost some chips in tournaments. But it is rare, that it happen exactly at a time, where you have a substantial amount of chips invested in a hand without being all in. Not sure I can even recall such a time, and I have played a lot of poker. You can also reduce the risk by not doing silly things like betting 95% of your chips without betting the rest. Once you are all in, you are protected, since you cant be forced to fold.

always keep mobile data available on your phone so if WIFI fails you can enable a hotspot or use the mobile app (https://www.casino.us/poker/mobile/) to finish your tournament)

I try to reduce the risk as much as possible before I even register for a tournament.
I prefer playing on a laptop or desktop with a stable, high-speed internet connection rather than on mobile. I also keep a backup connection ready, such as mobile hotspot or a secondary ISP, especially in case of power or modem failures.
I generally avoid playing important tournaments while traveling or from places with unreliable internet.
Disconnections during a big pot or near the bubble are frustrating, but having a solid setup and a backup plan can save a lot of money and stress.

I always rely on a backup: if my Wi‑Fi drops, my mobile data automatically takes over.

I never had a situation where I lost internet during a big tournament. It has happened to me during smaller games, though. Personally, I would never play in a major tournament somewhere where there's a risk of losing the connection. The best thing you can do is prepare a backup, such as mobile internet, or play from a public place with a stable connection.

Losing internet connection is one downside of online poker. It's beyond our control. If you were playing cash games, dropping a single hand or missing a blind isn't as bad as like losing most or your entire stack in a tournament.

That's one of the most tilting ways to lose. I'd rather get coolered than disconnect in a huge pot because at least then I actually got to play the hand.
After it happened to me a couple of times, I started keeping my phone's hotspot ready as a backup. It doesn't save every situation, but it's saved a few deep runs. Unfortunately, disconnects are just one of those things you have to treat like bad beats—out of your control, even though they hurt a lot more.

This is an actual issue; you must change providers and pick one that delivers reliable service where you live.

In Ukraine, electricity causes us more trouble than communications. Even during prolonged outages, landline and mobile Internet often keep functioning. Electricity is the harder problem, especially during extreme heat or bitter cold.

I only play when I'm at home, so if my internet connection goes down, I usually have other options, like switching to mobile data or using another connection. It doesn't happen often, but I know how frustrating it is when it happens at a crucial moment.

It occurs occasionally, and yeah, it's annoying. Also, the additional downtime from the disconnection typically isn't very useful in those moments. I also keep my phone close by.

Do you hate it when the interruption of internet comes from the site itself. I had to take a replacement league games a few time because of that. Dammit.

Your only options are to try restoring the Wi‑Fi yourself or find a place offering free Wi‑Fi and use it there.

That’s annoying — I got disconnected, especially on GG, and I don’t know why. Sometimes when I play at 3 on different sites, only GG drops the connection.

The poker sites (https://www.casino.us/poker/) generally consider a player's internet connection to be the player's own responsibility. Only in exceptional situations—such as a widespread server outage affecting many players—may the site pause the tournament or apply its refund policy.

Many moons ago, when I first started playing online, before cable internet, with dial-up phone landline connections, getting disconnected was very common, and sites gave all-in protection if you were disconnected during a hand. People abused this, intentionally disconnecting to not have to call large bets and still finish a hand. They gradually did away with it, going to only 2 or 1 protections per a certain time period or session, and then none I live six miles outa town, buried in the woods and I was able to get cable internet in 2003 which has been very stable over the years, though I only average about 12 mbs these days, while folks in town have fiber internet now with insane speeds, 500mbs, even some over 1000mbs. I don't think they'll ever run fiber out here, but my connection is mostly sufficient now with only one thing running the internet at a time. The only site I have any problems with is Replay, and I don't think it's on my end...

If I am using wifi and I start to disconnect during a tournament, I sometimes try to connect to a cellular hotspot in hopes it'll hold the connection during wifi reconnection.
But if I am playing on cellular data and start disconnecting without access to other networks, that's just unlucky and I can only hope it gets a solid signal soon lol, it happened a lot, so I just started to avoid playing online outside of home.

I don't want that to anyone. It happened to me and it's horrible being at a final table and I was punching when the connection returned the tournament had ended, and despite everything, I was in fifth place. It's the worst thing that can happen to you while playing

That truly leads to losses; the platforms should implement a mechanism to detect it and permit a longer grace period to return online.

Good morning, everyone.
This has happened to me before, but since I play micro stakes, it doesn't affect me that much. Internet disconnections are very rare for me because my connection is usually stable. Right now, I'm using my phone as a hotspot for my PC.
For players who play higher stakes, though, I think it's a good idea to have more than one internet provider—at least two, or even three if you want extra security. It must be terrible to lose your connection while playing a final table for big money.
I don't know how much internet costs in other countries, but here in Brazil I pay about R$100 per month for a 600 Mbps connection, which is roughly US$20. So, if I ever start playing higher stakes, I would definitely have at least two internet connections.

Definitely a good idea. I recently got broadband installed, which should be faster than my old wireless internet. But I still kept my wireless internet as a backup solution, and today there is actually a lengthy issue (hours) with the broadband. Which would have completely sucked, if I was playing tournaments and did not have a back-up.

I know exactly how that feels. It's one of the most frustrating things in poker. Losing a big pot or busting on the bubble because of an internet disconnection hurts much more than losing a normal hand. Unfortunately, the only things we can do are use a stable connection, keep mobile data as a backup, and hope the platform has reconnect protection.

It really is a terrible feeling, and it happens at least once every ten times; it really hurts the game. As a poker grinder, I often find my hands (https://www.casino.us/poker/strategy/poker-hands/) tied and feel completely frustrated, watching several blinds slip away on those occasions.

I’m having a meltdown, recalling all the curse words I know and taking some calming meds) 😱😵😈💩😴🤢😆
On a serious note, in Ukraine blackouts are fairly regular from autumn into winter, when the power is switched off. And without electricity, there’s no internet either.
There are timetables that indicate when the power will be cut, so I just avoid playing during those periods.
