I think poker games are 90% luck then maybe π€ 10% luck ..
Luck Vs luck

Nope, in the short run it's mostly luck, but across thousands of hands the 10% ability genuinely becomes apparent
nah short-term variance is wild but over the long run the math doesn't lie β you can't bluff your way through 100k hands on luck alone
Honestly, that basically sums up my whole poker career in a single line π
So you're saying it's 100% luck with 10% skill layered on top? Sounds about right for my last session, to be honest
that math isn't adding up, but honestly I feel this deep in my soul after last night's bad beats
that 90% luck 10% luck math is giving me a headache but I can't argue with it ngl
I recall a hand from years back where I shoved with absolute garbage merely to steal the blinds, and somehow rivered a full house, causing the opponent to tilt so badly he sat out for a month. That 10% ability likely activated when I chose to leverage that wild victory as my table image for the following two hours.
If you want to nudge the odds in favor of that tiny sliver of skill, begin recording your session notes right after you get up from the table while the reads remain fresh.
yeah its basically all luck till u bluff the righht guy at the right moment
It genuinely seems like a 90% game of chance until you face someone who strips every bet-sizing tell down like an onion. My view is that the skill only becomes apparent across thousands of hands, but on any given Tuesday night anything can occur.
fr i once sat at a 1/2 table for 6 hours and only won a single pot where i bluffed with 7 2 offsuit and the villain folded kings face up. that 10% skill is just knowing when to get lucky i guess lol
I spent three months diligently recording every session and the harsh truth was that my biggest winning nights came when my draws hit far beyond expectation, not when I believed Iβd played especially well.
On a single hand luck steamrolls everything but over a month the guy who always 3 bets too wide bleeds off his rent while the nit picks up crumbs, so I lean more toward the grind rewarding discipline than the coinflip fantasy.
Poker is mostly watchng paint dry punctuated by 60 second bursts of misery, so either way the house wins.
I once folded pocket aces preflop in a home game cause my buddy had this twitch he does only with monsters, and he snap called with kings then spiked a set on the flop anyway so maybe its 90% luck plus 10% your friends are bad liars lol
haha i swear its more like 99% luck cause i ran queens into aces three times in one night last week, couldn't do a thing about it
honestly id take 90% luck over thinking you can outplay the river
idk man, if its 90% luck the same names wouldnt keep showing up at final tables every week
Do you think tournaments are more dependent on luck compared with cash games? Because in cash games I feel like skill asserts itself more quickly.
I once accidentally won a pot with 7 2 offsuit, so yeah, it was definitely luck.
so does the 10% luck you mentioned show up before the flop, or only after the river has already wrecked you β or is it just the same luck pulling double duty π
I disagree, to be honest β if it were mainly luck then any two hands would behave identically, but the true difference is how players manage position and control the pot across hundreds of deals.
Follow a single hand you folded and count how frequently it would have won.
I used to believe it was mostly luck until I noticed that whenever I played tilted I ended up giving my stack to the same composed players, so the 10% skill seems modest but it continuously supports the same people over months.
Love that you gave luck 90% and still managed to find room for another 10% of luck β that arithmetic is the most honest thing Iβve ever seen about poker.
i had a session where i folded aces preflop to a huge 5 bet and the guy showed kings, pure luck he didnt hit the 2 outer but the real skill was folding 200bb deep cause i noticed he only did that wih KK+. so yeah luck keeps the cards flipin but grinding out 80k hands taught me the edge is in the folds nobody claps for
lol yeah its mostly luck in the short bursts but the pain is real when you grid for 3 hours and get cracked by some dude chasing a gutshot. idk maybe the 10% luck is the prat where you somehow still deposit next week
I accidentally folded pocket aces before the flop, and the flop turned up all low cards, so maybe that was 90% luck rescuing me from my own mistake
nah 90% luck combined with 10% luck means it's simply 100% luck and your math teacher would cry
