Honestly just start with Texas Hold'em, it's the easiest to pick up. You get 2 cards, share 5 with the table, and try to make the best 5-card hand — rest you learn by losing a few hands tbh
ngl the losing part is where the real lessons come from 😂 just stick to low stakes at first and don't bluff too much until you get a feel for it
Just jump into some micro-stakes Hold'em tables and focus on which hands to play from what position first, the rest kinda clicks after a few sessions
No lie — begin with micro-limit Hold'em tables and focus on playing only hands when you're in position first 🐐
Seriously, just join a play-money table and learn the rhythm first — don’t worry about the jargon yet, you’ll learn it fast
Tbh just learn the hand rankings first, that's like 90% of the confusion early on. Everything else you'll figure out as you play.
Memorize which hands beat which and focus on playing solid starting hands; the rest is practice and accepting a few small losses in cheap pots.
Just understand that pocket aces are ideal, but for the majority of hands you’ll be folding junk until you develop a sense for it lol
could go either way fr
By playing
Id say skipping the video guides and just jumping into low stakes tables is way more fun, youll lose a couple bucks but you learn way faster when its your own money on the line.
I remember staring at a flush draw for a full minute wondering why it was called that, it clicked after a friend yelled at me to just push all in lol
Dive straight into Texas Holdem miccro stakes and focus on position first, forget chasing straights if you are out of the button.
Are you planning to begin with online micro tables or dive straight into home games with friends? That choice could affect what you should prioritize initially.
Honestly just get your feet wet with play money tables first, i tried that and it felt less painful when you misread your hand for the fifth time. Still managed to punt with a pair of twos tho
That part about being new resonated with me — I spent my first week thinking ace-high was unbeatable every single time, lol. You’ll learn quickly though; just watch a few hands on YouTube.
My best tip: stop calling every river bet with a middle pair hoping to hit trips. I was bleeding chips doing that for weeks until I realized fold equity exists.
Forget bluffing at first, just fold everything that isn't premium and you'll already do better than most.
Would you rather start by exploring the hand rankings, or by walking through the sequence of betting rounds in Texas Hold’em?
Just play tight early on honestly, I kept thinkin any suited cards were a license to splash around and my chip stack would vanish in ten minutes flat. The real lightbulb moment for me was realizing position at the table matters almost as much as your actual cards.
man when i started i lost so many chips calling down with second pair like it was the nuts lol. just fold more than you think you need to especially early on and it'll save you a ton of headaches
fold pre, alot. saves your stack early
just fold trash hands and u wont bleed
I lost my first three buy-ins to pocket twos.
everyone sleeps on position, i spent months bleedin chips from early seat before someeone told me just fold more when im first to act and widen up on the button
Honestly playing tight is the smartest move early on but I still get bored folding for 20 hands and then punt with jack four suited just to feel something.
ez lfg bro, start with online free games for practice, you'll learn fast and avoid risking cash ?
I lost a ton of chips early by slow-playing pocket aces and letting opponents see cheap flops. A friend advised me to make a big preflop raise with those hands, even if it scares everyone away, and that change alone stopped me from bleeding money so quickly.
I recall losing my entire stack once while holding pocket kings because I couldn’t fold after an ace appeared on the flop; the worst part was that the board had 4 spades by the river and I had no blockers, so my chances were ruined from the start.
Have you tried playing wih just the top 10 hands yet
fold any hand that isn't top 10 for the first 2 hours
I once folded a full house because I misread my own cards, so maybe verify the hand rankings again before you begin.
