If you're looking for a game that combines skill and luck, then poker is definitely worth trying. I'd recommend starting with freeroll tournaments or other free-entry games so you can learn how the game works without risking any money. Once you feel more comfortable, move on to low buy-in tournaments and gradually work your way up as your skills and confidence improve.

yeah just jump in to be honest — begin with the free games to get a sense of things before putting any real money on the line

kazysNewbie4 posts

If you have the patience for it, definitely try it — the free tables are excellent for learning the ropes without spending any money

rexariNewbie3 posts

start with the free-roll tournaments so you can get familiar with the pace without worrying about losing.

kovaerra6Newbie4 posts

Begin with the play-money tables — there's no sense risking real cash while you're still learning what beats what.

Go ahead, but don’t expect to be making a fortune immediately — the free tables will quickly bring you back down to earth if you’re inexperienced.

merixenNewbie3 posts

yeah just hop on the free tables first, they'll teach you real fast what not to do without costing you a dime

Sweating a hold em tourney now, 60 left.

aurorayx4Newbie4 posts

To be honest, cash games outperform tournaments.

the bluffing on high card turns feels insane right now, seen like 3 sick hero calls already

Zyxon8Newbie3 posts

do you got a specific type of poker in mind or just the usual holdem stuff

woonynthaNewbie4 posts
Posted Jul 11, 2026, 12:18 PM#30

I lost like three all-ins with pocket aces my first week, so maybe begin smaller than I did lol. But yeah, just dive in honestly — it’s fun even when you’re awful at first.

wrenolxenMicro-Stakes Grinder5 posts

lost 3 buyins my first night, brutal. still fun tho

yea but watch a hand ranking chart on the side til it sticcks

SanddraNewbie3 posts

If you begin, record each session in a basic notepad. Reviewing your wins and losses over several weeks is far more informative than merely guessing whether you're ahead or behind.

have you ever played before or is this completely new for ya? cos the learning curve can be kinda steep if youve never sat at a table.

ivoryraundNewbie2 posts
Posted Jul 11, 2026, 4:21 PM#35

do you have a specific bankroll planned or are you just trying things out for now?

runeixienneNewbie4 posts
Posted Jul 12, 2026, 6:06 AM#36

I lost my first roughly ten hands straight because I kept overvaluing suited connectors, so honestly, you probably shouldn't do that when you're starting out.

miketyson4Newbie4 posts

poker's enjoyable until someone rivers you with some 2-outer haha, but sure, go ahead and try it

nylax3Micro-Stakes Grinder5 posts
Posted Jul 12, 2026, 10:03 AM#38

If you do jump in, set a strict stop loss before you even sit down at a real money table, because tilt chasing after a bad beat is the fastest way to drain a bankroll. Also get comfortable folding for an hour straight on the free tables, it sounds boring but discipline is way more useful than flashy bluffs when you are starting out.

I tried poker once, bluffed my friend out of his lats chip and felt bad

kim0sdomwpMicro-Stakes Grinder6 posts

honestly the best tip i can give is to watch a few streams first, seeing how people react to bad beats in real time teaches you more than any free table imo
