How does poker works in simple terms

Basically you get cards, try to make the best hand, and either bluff or bet based on what you think others have.
You get two cards, then five community cards come out in stages, and you're just trying to build the strongest 5-card combo using any mix of your own and the shared ones.
no cap ngl poker is mostly about not tilting when u get bad beats lol
You get dealt cards, bet in rounds, and the goal is to win chips either by having the best hand or convincing everyone else to fold. tbh it's simpler to learn by playing a few free hands than reading rules
Yeah, the other comment nailed it – just grab a free app and play like 10 hands, you'll pick it up way faster than reading rules.
yeah nvm all that just hop on a free table and play a few hands lol ?
lost a full buyin once cus i didnt know a flush beas a straight
are you trying to figure out the betting order or just what beats what, cuz thats the part that tripped me up most at first
i won my first pot last night with ace queen suited and now im hooked
bluffing is fun til they caall you down light
are you looking to play for fun or actually tryna learn the math behind it too cuz the hand rankings are just the start
bro its basically a battle of who has the strongest 5 card combo except half the game is convincing everyone else yours is trash or the nuts lol the adrenaline when both hole cards hit the flop is actually unmatched
Everyone says it's about bluffing and reading people but honestly most beginners lose because they play way too many hands, folding is literally the hardest skill to learn.
honestly the rush you get from catching someone bluffing on the river is unmatched especially in texas holdem when you know the pot odds were barely in your favor
I folded pocket aces preflop once just to see if I could and the table lost teir minds. The simple version is you make the best five card hand but most of the real game is just not letting your curiosity get the better of you.
Honestly the way I explain it to newbies is you get two cards and try to match them with the five on the table to make the best hand possible but the real trick is half the time youre playing the other people not the cards. I remember a hand last week where I had nothhing at all just a nine high and the board was scary but I kept raising small and the other guy folded what he later said was a pair of kings so sometimes the cards dont even matter.
Bluff less, fold more. Works eventually.
My granddad tried explaining poker to me once but got so miffed wehn I checked a pair of kings that he gave up and just mumbled "you either get 5 cards that beat their 5 cards
it’s less about cards tbh more a patience contest imo
yeah bro its pretty much good cards + smart bets, and sometimes pure bluff if teh spot feels right lol ? ?
i started out just chasing flushes every hand and wondering why i kept losing my stack lol the moment it clicked was when my buddy pointed out that im basically paying rent just to see more cards so i learned to only chase when the price was cheap and the other guy looked unsure
My uncle once told me the only rule that matters is "don't fall in love with a pretty pair," then he lost his car keys and blamed the deck.
You just want to take money from people who are slightly worse at math than you.
Always felt more like reading people than the cards to me
A buddy showed me a hand where he folded a srtaight draw on the river because the pot odds were terrible and saved his whole stack for later.
The simplest way to see it is you're just paying for the chance to lie about your hand convincingly.
fold anything that looks pretty and youre still gonna lose half the time, its basically just a long quiet argument over who hates their hand less
You basically just try to lose the least when your cards are bad and win a bit more when theyre good, it all revolves around managing that gap over time. Most new players obsess over the cards but the real grind is just sitting there folding and waiting for the other guy to get bored and do something dumb.
My first proper lesson came when I flopped a straight, went all smug, and the river paired the board giving the other guy a full house I didn't even see coming.. folding that hand taught me more than any winning night ever did lol
I folded pocket aces preflop once becuse the guy next to me sneezed and it just felt like a sign
honestly juts think of it like betting on who has the better 5 card hand but the real trick is you're not playing against the deck, you're playing against what the other guy thinks you have and I saw someone run a stone cold 7 2 off suit like it was pocket aces last night
Its a slow grind where patience usually beats impulse
