That’s one reason I like poker. Regardless of how a session goes, there’s always something to take away. Sometimes it’s about improving decision-making, other times it’s about recognizing when patience is the better play.

I’ve learned that maintaining discipline pays off more than pursuing every single hand. Holding out for the right moment has kept me from many needless losses, and it makes the victories feel that much sweeter when they happen.

Poker combines skill, patience, and experience. The more you play, the clearer it becomes that making informed choices matters more than depending on luck alone.

Good luck to everyone at the tables. Hope you pick the right reads and enjoy some memorable hands! 🍀♠️

So true, learning when to just fold and wait for a better spot was a game changer for me too. The wins hit different when you know you earned them with patience rather than luck.

Discipline over chasing is what separates the consistent players from the rest tbh, well said

Discipline really is the unsung hero at the tables, feels way better to walk away knowing you played solid rather than just getting lucky.

Patience at the table pays off way more than chasing every draw, and it took me way too long to figure that out lol. Solid take, gl to you too 🙌

The patience part hit home for me too, sometimes the best play is just folding and waiting for a spot you actually know you've got the edge in.

Discipline is the real edge tbh, anyone can get lucky but sticking to solid decisions session after session is where the real growth happens.

So true about the patience part, folding a marginal hand feels boring in the moment but looking back it's usually what kept my stack intact for when the real spots showed up.

ngl the "knowing when to be patient" part is the hardest skill to actually stick with in the moment, but it's always the one that separates losing sessions from breaking even.

ngl waiting for better spots instead of chasing has been huge for me tbh ?

do you keep any kind of notes on your sessions to track those spots where patience paid off? i started jotting down a few things and it's wild how much it reinforces staying disciplined

do you find it easier to stay patient when youre already up for the session or does the score not really matter for your discipline? i struggle more when im down a bit tbh

Fold queens to a 4bet last week, felt pro.

totally agree that discipine beats chasing, one weird trick i use is muting the table chat completely so i dont get tilted by randoms and start playing too many hands

do you ever review your folds after a session to see if that discpline was on point or just me?

emberaytosMicro-Stakes Grinder7 posts

Do you find it harder to stay discipliend in cash games compared to tournaments or is it about the same for you?

honeestly the hardest part for me is sticking to the plan when the table is super loose and every pot looks juicy. my best sessions lately have been when i literally tell myself out loud "no hero calls" before i even sit down lol

telling myeslf out loud not to chase works better than i thought too

Last night I folded ace king offsuit three times in a row and still ended up doubling my stack on a sneaky set of fours, felt like a real sniper.

The mental game is everything. It hit me hard after binking a final table last week, all because I folded small suited aces like three orbits straight while the aggressive stacks picked each other off.

I get the patience angle but sometimes being too patient bites you back hard. Ive missed value spots by waiting for the perfect moment and then the table shifts or a bad beat crushes your stack anyway. I think there's a line where discipline turs into just being scared to act.

That point about patience saving you from unnecessary losses really hits home. It is almost comical how the moment I stop forcing things, the deck starts cooperating on its own.

Folding pocket queens peflop after a massive 5 bet shove saved my tournament life once when the other guy showed aces.

last week i folded pocket jacks for an hour straight and then stacked a guy who thought my patience meant i was weak

Honestly I’d rather grind a tiny edge all night than gamble on hero calls, folding jusst feels way less stressfull.

couldn't agree more, bro! patience is key and sometimes letting go of a hand ends up being the real win ?

gladeenliaNewbie3 posts

I get the discipline part but too much patience sometimes just makes me bleed blinds while waiting for a miraccle hand

Wineostia0Micro-Stakes Grinder6 posts

Patience is nice but honestly my favorite part is just reviewing the dumb mistakes after and knowing I won't do that exact same thing next time

merienkiMicro-Stakes Grinder6 posts

Sometimes the biggest lesson from a session is just realizing you managed to sit there for three hours without tilting, and honestly that feesl more like a win than any double up

Not chasing every hand really shows how much ego plays into those bad calls

folded pocket kings pre once and the flop came ace high, still patting myself on the back for that
