I am looking to specialize more into one specific format this month. Multi-table tournaments offer that massive thrill of a potential deep run, but cash games offer way more scheduling flexibility. For those who have ground out both, which format do you find more profitable long-term, and which do you genuinely enjoy playing more?
Multi-table tournaments vs. Cash games: What is your preference?

Tbh I've grinded both and cash is way more consistent for me profit-wise, but nothing beats the rush of a deep MTT run. If you've got the time to commit, MTTs are more fun, but cash is where the steady bread's at.
I'm with you on the scheduling thing tbh. Cash games let me jump in and out whenever, but those rare MTT deep runs just hit different. If I had to pick one for pure enjoyment it’s tourneys, but my bankroll definitely prefers cash.
I lean cash for the steady profit, but my heart's always in tourneys lol. The variance in MTTs can be brutal, but when you ship one it makes up for a month of grinding cash.
I've found the sweet spot is grinding cash for the reliable hourly and then firing the Sunday majors for that MTT fix. Keeps the bankroll healthy and the soul happy tbh.
cash for steady profit tbh but mtt rushes still got me hooked sometimes lol
cash is def more reliable for the hourly, but man those deep runs in MTTs just hit different. i treat them like a fun side quest while cash is the main grind tbh
Honestly I'm the same as most here—cash pays the bills but MTTs keep it interesting. I'd say if you have to pick one, go cash for consistency, but definitely fire the odd tourney or you'll burn out.
I've run both pretty extensively and my lifetime ROI is higher in cash by a mile, but if I'm being real I'd rather play a Sunday session full of tourneys every time. The grind feels less like work when there's a shot at a big score.
ngl cash grinds way steadier for me but mtt final tables still slap fr ?
Honestly, MTTs make me feel more alive but my bankroll definitely prefers cash games. If you can handle the swings and still enjoy the grind, maybe do what a lot of us do—cash as the main hustle and tourneys for the soul.
Do you prefer early session or late night MTTs?
honestly cash is just where i feel way more in control ya know but mtts give you that random moent where everyting clicks and you final table, cant lie i end up spending too much time chasing that feeling
Do you think the "thrill" factor of MTTs actually tilts your decisions when you go back to cash, or can you switch mindsets cleanly between them?
Cahs is steadier profit but MTTs are way more fun.
I tend to stick with cash because I can stop whenever I want without leaving value on the table. Tournaments are exciting when they go well but the variance feels like a slower burn that's harder to budget around mentally.
last month i final tabled a small stakes tourney after 5 hours and felt amazing, but then i added up my hourly and it was basically the same as a sleepy tuesday cash session where i barely paid attention lol, so for me cash wins on profit but MTTs keep the love alive
the whole scheduling flexibility thing is what kils mtts for me honestly, i cant commit 6 hours straight without life getting in the way.
honestly for pure hourly cash just seems better unless you reallly love the grind of studying icm spots and final table play. i keep telling myself ill commit to mtts but then i get bored after two hours and end up at the cash tables anyway.
cash bores me stiff aftr hour 3 honestly
I see where you're coming from on cash flexibility, but I actually thik MTTs force you into a discipline that can be more profitable if you stick to a solid schedule. The variance is wild though, not everyone can stomach it.
I once skipped a cousin's wedding reception to finish an MTT, bubbled in 12th, and still think about that pizza I missed.
I have been spamming hyper trbo MTTs lately and the pure adrenaline of a final table with three people left makes cash games feel like watching paint dry. My actual bankroll says cash is more reliable profit long term, but I cannot lie, I keep reloading those tournaments anyway.
man the buzz of final tabling an mtt is unreal and cash just cant touch that, but my roll took a beating from those 5 hour sessions where you bust just before the money. i actually prefer plo cash for steady wins lately bc the edge over recs is so much clearer.
cash games are just a slower way to go brooke

cash games. MTTs just tilting me lateley lol
For me cash games kinda won by default cause I hate starting an mtt at 7pm and suddenly it's 2am and I'm still staring at the same screen. The long term money in cash feels more consistent too but honestly neither format is exactly thrilling after the first thousand hands or so.
Track your hourly rate across at least 200 hours before deciding which is actually more profitable for you.
Do you find that the softer player pools in MTTs make up for the higher variance, or does cash just feel more consistent for you profit wise?
I switcched to cash last year after my dog literally unplugged the router mid tournament final table and I lost a top 3 stack, that pain just isnt there when you can sit out a few hands and come back fine.
cash games are just way easier on the brain for me. i cant handle the mental drain of a 5 hour mtt just to min cash and feel like i wasted my evening, at least in cash i can quit whenever i want if the table is dead or im not feeling it.
I kept dabbling in both until I final tabled a micro MTT after midnight and realized my Tuesday morning meeting was in five hours. Now I mostly stick to cash where I can stand up whenever, but man that final table adrenaline was something else.
cash games keep me sane but the real rush of a final table is too hard to quit
I actually run way deeper in MTTs when I stck to hyper turbos, the late game adrenaline when you are shoving 10bb with suited aces is so worth the time sink. Cash just pays my bills but man nothing beats final tabling a 500 person field at 3am.
I find cash games much more profitable simply because you can leave a bad table or a tilted mindset instantly, unlike being stuuck in a MTT for hours while the blinds eat you alive. That flexibility alone saves my bankroll more than any deep run ever did.
How many tables do you typically play at once?
i honestly lean towards cash just because i can quit wenever im not feeling it, but mtts pay way bigger when you actually bink one so its hard to pick lol. for me the real profit comes from whatever format im not tilted playing that day.
ngl cash games for steady income but those mtt hits are a wild ride ? if u got the discipline, i'd say mix it up a bit
Honestly I lean towards MTTs for the thrill but cash keeps the bankroll more stable over a month. Do you think you can handle the mental drain of a long MTT session without it affecting your focus later on?
what stakes are you grinding at the moment, because i feel like the rake structure really changes the math on which one is more profitable
I prefer the structure of tournaments myself because cash games feel too endless sometimes, like you just bleed chips if you aren't in the right headspace. I actually find MTTs more relaxing since you can just fire up a stack and let the blind levels do the work while focusing purely on decisions rather than worrying about when to satnd up from the table.
Cash is my bread and butter long term cause I can just grind 2 hours and log off if I tilt, but man the adrenaline from a final table push in an MTT is something cash just can't replicate for me no matter how deep the stacks.
That line about the "massive thrill of a potential deep run" is exactly why I keep punting off stacks in the late stages, chasing a top 3 feels way better than grinding out 3bb/100 for hours in cash
