Hey Stake Community,

I want to start a focused thread about Stake Poker. Whether you play casual cash games, grind tournaments, or experiment with the platform’s various game types, I’m interested in hearing your experiences.

A few topics to consider:

The Competition: How do you rate the player pool? Are the tables typically softer than on traditional poker networks, or do you frequently face stiff opponents?

Rake & Rewards: What do you think of the rake setup and how poker play affects your overall VIP progress and rakeback?

Software & UI: How does the software perform for you? Is the multi-table experience fluid, or are there particular features you’d like the developers to implement?

Share your favorite poker variants, your largest tournament cashes, or any bankroll management advice for grinding on Stake. Let’s discuss strategy!

Tbh, the player pool is softer than most dedicated poker sites I've tried, but the rake feels a bit steep unless you're grinding enough to hit decent VIP levels.

Tbh I've had a similar experience, the micro stakes tables are full of people punting stacks but the rake does sting a bit when you're not running deep in VIP.

Tbh I've found the same, the micro stakes are a goldmine for value but that rake is painful when you're just starting a session. Multi-tabling feels smooth for me though, no major lag even with four tables up.

Yeah micros are a goldmine for sure, people just hand you chips. But man that rake eats small pots alive, I only really feel good about it once I hit platinum.

Fr, the micros are wild, but I've noticed the player pool dries up real quick once you move up to mid-stakes. Mostly just regs sitting there waiting to bumhunt.

Yeah, the micro-stakes are basically a donation center if you’ve got half a clue. But you’re spot on about mid-stakes being a ghost town, it’s just the same five nits circling each other waiting for a fish to sit down.

Tbh the mid-stakes reg infestation is too real, it's like they've all got a sixth sense for avoiding each other and only open when a rec sits down. I stick to micros for the chaos, at least the rake feels less painful when you're stacking a maniac every other hand.

ngl the mid-stakes regs are something else, they all just sit there with their HUDs refusing to play each other. I stick to micros too, at least the action is constant and you can actually stack someone with a dumb bluff.

Tbh that's exactly why I rarely leave the micros anymore, I'd rather deal with the rake than sit at a table with four nits staring at each other for an hour waiting for a fish to splash.

I actually think the rake critique is a bit overblown on Stake, especially if you are grinding for VIP progress. Yeah it stings in a vacuum but the rakeback and level up bonuses offset it way more than people give it credit for.

Hav you noticed if the player pool gets tougher during certain hours or is it pretty steady?

I see folks saying the micros are the only place to play but I actualy think the low stakes cash games are still pretty beatable if you table select well. The rakeback does help a lot but you still need to dodge those tables with 3 regs just sitting there like statues waiting for a whale.

I think calling the rake fine because of rakeback misses the point, it still kills action in the games I've played.

Honestly the speed poker variant pays out so fast I almost forgot about the rake entirely.

haha my first session there I stacked some guy who was literally playing every hand and I thought I found a goldmine... turns out it was just 3am on a tuesday

Swear a guy limped aces 3 times in 20 hnads

i once folded kings preflop against a super nit and he showed aces after, felt like a genius but honestly he only played like 4 hands an hour so it was obvious

I sat down at a 5nl table last week and watched a guy donk bet every single street with bottom pair and somehow river a two outer against my top set, I logged off for the night after that. Honestly the swings are wild but the player pool has enough casuals to make it worthwhile if you just stick to solid fundamentals.

I actually dont find the multi tabling that smooth, it gets clunky with 4 tables and the bet slider lags which cost me a pot last night. Maybe its fine for 2 tables but calling the UI smooth is a stretch.

do you guys find the player pool shifts alot depending on time of day? i swear weekday afternoons feel super nitty then friday nights its just pure chaos

The rake feels slightly higher than what I am used to on standalone poker clients.

WrenynniMicro-Stakes Grinder8 posts

I get why some say the rake feels high but if you're not factoring in the rakeback from plat and up you're missing half the picture honestly. It's not that the UI is perfect, sure it can get chopppy with more than 3 tables but calling the games soft while ignoring how swingy that makes your sessions is kinda cope

I honestly love the chaotic energy on Friday night tables, you can triple barrel with air and somehow get called by ace high thinking they trapped you. Just avoid those morning grinders who defend blinds like their life depends on it.

table select is your best friend during those weekday nit fests, just hop til you find the splashy guys

Have you noticed any difference in game speed between their casual tables and tournaments?

krxkaverMicro-Stakes Grinder7 posts

I really love the hyper turbo sit and goes on Stake, the blinds ramp up so fast it forces the table into constant action and makes it impossible for anyone to just sit there folding for 20 minutes.

woonelyxNewbie3 posts

I actually stacked a guy three times in one session because he kept overvaluing top pair no kicker on wet boards, the Sunday crowd here definitely lacks fundamentals compared to ACR. The tradeoff is that the rake nibbles at your win rate pretty hard so you can't just auto pilot, you have to size up a little bigger agaisnt the calling stations to make it worthwhile.

Gauzelike7Newbie4 posts

Yeah rake is the silent killer for me, you see all these loose callers and think it's free money then at end of session notice how much has been chewed up lol it really forces you to play tighter than you'd want.

Noticed the OP got cut off mid sentence about the multi tabling UI so clearly you have thoughts on that lol, but also have you tried the fast fold style games yet and did you notice the same lag problems there too or is it just a regular table thing?

Sydneyelle3Micro-Stakes Grinder7 posts
Posted Jul 12, 2026, 8:01 AM#36

if the tables feel splshy i usually tighten up utg and just let them blast into me, way less fancy plays needed. the rakeback definitely pads the sessions a bit but the actual rake can sting if you overfold preflop.
