Poker is one of those games where a single adjustment can make a huge difference over the long run. For me, I realized that patience often beats aggression when used at the wrong time.

I'm interested to hear from players of all experience levels.

What's the best poker advice you've ever received?

Do you prefer cash games or tournaments, and why?

What's the biggest mistake you see new players make?

Have you ever folded a strong hand and later found out it saved your stack?

Tbh the biggest shift for me was finally understanding position properly—like, 90% of hands I used to play from early position were just torching money. Folding a strong hand preflop when you’re out of position in tournaments has saved me so many times it’s not even funny.

Learning to fold big hands preflop when out of position was a game changer for me too, saved more chips than any hero call ever did. Cash games all day for me, tournaments just feel like a slow bleed until you hit a lucky run tbh.

The patience bit hits home tbh, learning when not to shove in tournaments saved my stack so many times. Cash games are more my speed though, feels less like a slow-motion car crash.

Stop paying off obvious nutt hands just because your set looks pretty, that one small change stopped my biggest leak overnight. Cash games for me because I like to leave when the table gets weird, not be stuck grinding for 4 hours.

fold equity is real no cap, sometimes shoving air prints money if they overfold ?

yo that fold equity point is fire, i used to just call down with AA like it was untouchable til i finally blinked and dodged a straight on a wet board in a MTT cash game mix. biggest eye opener for me was realizing most low stakes players only 3bet with the literal nuts so you can overfold and print

I stopped getting attached to suited connectors out of position. The moment I folded 98s to a 3bet instead of trying to get cute, my win rate in cash games actully stabilized.

honestly i used to grind tournaments thinking id hit a big score but after switching to cash i realised my whole winrate was from tourney donks not me being good. the structure forces so many flips that i think new players chasing binks are way better off just putting in volume at low stakes cash where the real lessons about folding strng hands stick

I used to think aggression was always the answer, but learning when to just call and let others bluff into me saved me so much.

honestly folding queens prefllop for the first time felt insane but the guy hadnt 4 bet in like 3 hours and just flat out had aces it was so obvious after. saved me 200bb that night and changed how i think about ranges forever.

I folded pocket kings preflop once because an old guy spilled his coffee reaching for chips and it turned out he really did have aces.
